- This TV show concept was created by my brother John DiResta. John and my self made this pitch movie in the summer of 2004. This is a lifestyle we led on and off since we were in high school. After many pitch meetings with every network, over 6 years finally we sold the this idea to discovery network in 2010. The first and only season of 12 episodes aired in fall of 2011. discovery gave the series the new name Dirty Money.
During the production we had little to no contact with the people at discovery, and since production ended we never spoke to any one at the network. I mention this because many people ask me if there will be a season 2, Netflix, and many other questions I have no explanation for. This is why I came to youtube. This "format" is better than the Discovery's "format", looks more real. In Discovery... seems like is "arranged" or pre-maked...

Very funny. My Grandpa did the same thing. He would get things from the trash and sell things. He never called things trash, he called it Merchandise!

I was stuck in Seattle for 2 months of training back when it started airing, and this was the ONLY show my hotel TV was tuned to. SO pissed when I got back home to find out they cancelled it.
when i got Netflix, i found this cool show in the description. when it said Diresta, i was like HOLY SH!T!!!! I wish they let you do more. my inspiration to get my own garage set up one day. thank you!

Wow. Good on you guys for making a successful pitch to Discovery Channel. A feat within itself- regardless of it's longevity or lack of creator input. It's a vicious industry... kudos :-)
These days I don't think you need those networks on board, this would be an awesome YT hit on a weekly basis. I miss that show!!! :(
Jimmy I would rather have you here on youtube then any tv network out there. At least here I know when and what time I can watch you build awesome stuff and not have to worry about you getting cancelled for no reason.

jimmydiresta I got an eviction notice when I was in college because of "Trash to Cash". I found an old bathtub and coffee maker and was going to turn it into a hot tub just like you did! LOL! Thanks for all the inspiration! At least I have a real place to make stuff now! We need more shows like this!

When I first found you, it was through one of your videos where there's a lot of high speed and little talking, and after I sub'd your channel, I searched youtube and found your shows, both of them, both of which I thought were great. Been watching John's (and Matt's) channels too, your brother is the funniest dude, it showed in the TV shows, and continues on his channel. Too bad they don't know what they're doing over there at Discovery, the channel is flush with boring shows, and with Mythbusters retired now, I don't even tune into it anymore. Love the direction your channel has taken in recent times, and although I didn't understand until recently why you posted old videos, I never much cared that you did, it's you're channel, you post what you post and I either watch it or don't (Nah, I watch them all), sometimes I'll revisit a build if I liked it when you post the old videos because I watch them on Make: and Core77 when they're released too.

many peoples here in my country tried to make money on fleas like you since 80th, they all ended up homeless, it seems like fleas only work in US and nowhere else. my father was and still is one of the best carpenters in my country, everything he makes is handmade, even the machines hes using are handmade by him, he made tons of decorations and ornaments. but with his talent he didnt manage to even earn decent income so he had to work other jobs and woodworking was only his hobby. if we were in US i bet i would be rich now.
