I always liked the episode where Rich tells Les “this is my baby too” and Les responds “no… it’s really not”. I’ve worked for enough family owned companies to know that family is family. They’ve always got a guaranteed job and nothing else matters. Family is always inheriting the business and running it regardless of anything else.

I've been to this store. It is an actual working pawn shop. The entire crew were as nice as they could be. Les and his kids talked to us like they had know us all our lives. Is the show staged? Of course it is. All reality shows are. But do these type of incidents happen? They sure do.

Your right it is kind of staged as far as them already knowing the deal, You sign up with the item you want to bring in and then you come meet an appraiser who appraised it and sees if you can come to a deal, The items they think are good entertainment they give you a date to come in and do the deal on camera

I was in Detroit in 2004 visiting and went to pawn shops below 8 mile sadly Hardcore pawn showed Detroit folks very realistic - by grace I have never needed to go to Detroit again - hope I never will.

I was a pawnbroker for almost 25 years before I retired, and while I do find the show entertaining, I dont like the way it shows customers going crazy and using profanity to the pawnshop staff. We've had customers who think it acceptable to act this way when not getting what they want from the pawnshop.Needless to say, they are asked to leave, and law enforcement may be called out. Also to say this show isnt scripted is a falsehood.. the "customers are miked. you can see the transmitter on a couple of women that were 'escorted' out the front door. Im not complaining. I love watching that antics in the show. it really is funny what they portray

One thing I will say that Hardcore Pawn Chicago is much more realistic show than most of the others. Ive been in Royal Pawn several time and the owners are pretty much the way they appear on the show. Even though the show only lasted one season, the owners don't regret it because it brought in a lot of business.

what I got from this, is that networks are moving away from reality shows like this, operation repo etc. this one was the last one left, but it couldn't change enough to keep up with the tines and was phased out by the network. at least that's my 2 cents lol

Ive been to the store many times, I met and somewhat know the people in the store, and the show is real. I was asked several times when I was shopping in the store by the tv people if I would go on the air but I declined. The people are real, the events are real, but lots of the real events are "spiced up" for television theatrics. Even though events are exaggerated they are still real.

Parts of the show were funny, but it seemed as though almost everyone walking through the door had to put at least 10 swear words into their dialog.
It is strange that some customers who made trouble often had their brands on the clothes black taped. So trouble was scripted. If it was real they could have scrambled the brands on clothes or caps.
This show was one of my favorites! I Don't blame Ashley though....those people would drive me nuts too!
