- Helloo! As soon as I finished my Finals I started working on this series where I talk to different Oxford students about their subject! In this first episode I'm joined by Tony, a first year Geographer. I have a really good range of subjects lined up and I'm hoping this will help you make better informed decisions about what you choose to study at Oxford. Yes, by all means grasp the chance to study geography! It is the original and emphatically still the most enlightening and productive example of "multi-disciplinary" and "interdisciplinary" study ever devised. Drawing on and integrating as appropriate the insights and methods of all of the natural and human sciences, this synthetic but distinct and autonomous academic discipline aims at nothing less than a scientific understanding of man in his total environment. And through the agency of the multifarious applied professional fields that are built largely on its foundational knowledge, geography provides a sound guide to the responsible planning of his actions in the same.
These are a lot of big words to say Geography rocks😯 (but thank you for sharing your insight, I think it will be helpful for a lot of prospective students 💖)

I am expected grades 7 8 and 9 in all of my subjects except for English and science where I am expected 5. I am currently doing my GCSE’s but they have been cancelled. Would I need my science and English?
It sounds like you're doing really well, sorry to hear the exams are cancelled as that must be stressful. I suggest you to contact Oxford directly via email through their website as they can give you more specific help on this.

Can I ask what Geography at Oxford is like as a state schooler? I’ve seen a lot of videos online explaining how it is hard as a state schooler. Has this been true in your experience?
I can’t answer specific to Geography but if you browse my other Oxford videos you might get an overall idea. Generally I’d say coming from a state school (as I did) isn’t hard and it can only be uncomfortable if you mix with certain groups of people
