  • Video covers off the story of my brothers VN SS there is in car footage and discussion a detailed walk around on the car with information on the VN SS. The car hits the street so you can see it on the move and hear the iron lion roar.
    Released in March 1989 upon the return of the V8, 6 months after the release of the VN Commodore
    The VN SS remains one of the most sort after SS models and often fetches more $$ than it’s HSV counterparts in the VN-VS range. I don’t think there is any other SS fetching higher $$ than other factory V8 HSV’s of the same era.

    Nice car,
    having a closed door respray takes away from the story a bit about a one owner original car.. but I am being picky, cos it looks tidy af 😉
    Mistruth at 9:46 : the V8 in the badge is red in all luxury levels of the VN V8.
    11.:26. S pac seats? a soft and different dash to the series 2? yeah nah.
    12:29: air conditioning was not standard in SS luxury level.
    13:19: rear parcel shelf. has VP plastic vents, certainly not off a series 1 VN.
    nice car, but lots not original.

    • @GTZ05
      @GTZ05  Před 2 měsíci

      Hi Mate,
      Thanks for your feedback.
      Each to their own on the closed door re-spray, depends on personal taste I guess, it’s nice to do it to tidy up some cars.
      There is definitely a silver Factory V8 Badge for other models, plus the SS is not a luxury model and has the red V8 Badge.
      When I say they gave the car air conditioning, I was actually referring to the SV enhanced models, but when you are recording it can mash in all as one sentence and there can also be slip of the tongue.
      SS shared the same seats a VN ‘S‘ Commodore this is a true statement..
      Series 2 has a different grain and it is definitely not as soft (moved to the VP style from approx May 1990) check out this video at 8.50M czcams.com/video/2UxS_TWaPuA/video.htmlsi=ZD1gh5YSoMY27WWg and that’s the difference between series 1, this dash came out of a 1990 Calais (also check out every VN SS group A they will all have the series 2 dash) we have also owned 89 VN’s and 90 models back in the early 90s and noted this running change.. toward the end of the 91 run for VN they also added the more course grain to the dash vents from dash to door trim and kept that going for VP.
      We never claimed the car is 100% original. The plastic parcel shelf vents actually came out late in the VN run, these have been added in by us due to the carpet lifting in that area which is typical VN and probably why Holden made the change, I’ve done this modification to a few of my VN’s
      I appreciate you watching and being very observant 🙂

    • @commodorenut
      @commodorenut Před 2 měsíci

      The red vs silver badge thing started with the VL turbo badge - silver on Calais and red on everything else.
      The VN V8 badge was the same - silver on Calais, red on Exec, SS & Berlina. As a teenager and young driver when these were new, I paid attention to those details, and numerous friend’s parents had them from new (including 2 berlina wagons with red V8 badges in the tailgate).
      Nice upgrade on this one with the SV100 pack. Surprising how many VN SS have popped up with SV enhanced packs from back in the day.
      Power pack was optional on all later VN SS (once they had the loom update) not just the SV packs.
      There were so many changes during VN production that can be very confusing to those who have only owned 1 or 2 and think that’s what they were all like. Parts books and service manuals give a good timeline of changes. Quite a few changes were made even before the V8 came out in march 89.
      You’re right about the SS standing out compared to other VNs of the era. But that’s because basic ones looked so crap!
      Once colour coding became standard in base models, the SS blended in more.
      IMO the SS had the 2nd best VN body style rear spoiler. The VQ2 caprice 1 piece is nicer 😊

    • @GTZ05
      @GTZ05  Před 2 měsíci

      @@commodorenut so true, they changed so many things during the run, almost every month lol….
      All SV enhanced SS’s had the power pack standard, I have a April 1989 SS print date brochure with the power pack listed as optional, so they all had the option.
      Yup, the colour coding back then made a difference and even though VPs onwards all had it, I guess the brand of the VN SS was deep in people minds and they never forgot.
      The VQ Caprice spoiler is also a favourite, along with the SV89 spoiler

    • @commodorenut
      @commodorenut Před 2 měsíci

      @@GTZ05 I did lots of power pack upgrades back in the 90s and came across a couple of SSs that didn’t have the loom plugs for it (just like the exec had no plugs). Didn’t stop me doing them, just made it harder to make it look factory.
      You had to get the level 2 body harness to get the power-pack plugs (hence why you couldn’t get a power pack on an exec). I couldn’t remember when the L2 (same as berlina) harness was put into the SS, but thinking about it some more, the VN Clubby had the L2 body harness put into the base body, so that’s the most likely point when the change was made on the SS as well - so only a month or 2 of production probably.
      Anyway, the reason I mentioned the power pack was the way it sounded in the video was that the power pack was an SV thing, when really you could option it on a regular SS (once the body loom spec was updated to L2).
      VP opened up a plethora of changes to the way Holden did things - 2 and 4 power windows, standard central locking etc. The VN had so many options “rules” that applied in VL that makes it closer to a VL than a VP with what you could & couldn’t do as far as standard and optional equipment (and mandatory bits - like deleting cruise control on manuals).
      Speaking of VN power windows, I hate the rear door ones - thank goodness they updated the design for the later 2nd gen models. Much more reliable (and less prone to water ingress).

    • @GTZ05
      @GTZ05  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@commodorenut totally get that the power pack part sounded that way in the video, from memory, thats why I ended up putting text saying something like, Non SV models had the option of power pack..
      Sometimes when you are blabbing on recording things come out wrong and I just leave them, instead of re-rerecording, one of my videos I referred to the ls3 replacing the VT 5.0 litre, slip of the tongue but I can guarantee I know the difference Between the LS1 LS2 & LS3 having owned some LS based cars..
      True that the VN formula with options was similar to the VL, so much more was included with VP, but one thing I don’t like is 2 front power windows (like the Berlina, vp clubby) feels more cheap than 4 wind ups lol…
      I haven’t had much trouble with the rear power windows and most of the VNs I’ve owned have had power pack, (I still own 5 VN atm) I’ve changed 3 rear ones and 3 drivers all together, prefer doing the rear ones for some reason haha
      Power window switches on the other hand, a lot more have been changed…
      I know for the VN Clubby they had to mould something in for the trip computer, it’s in one of the manuals
      Glad to have another Holden enthusiast in the mix

    Man had accident so i took advantage of him, the car was worth around 10K as a 1 owner so you went around the car and said i need to do this and that and plus i have to get it on a back of a tow truck to get it back to NSW, i will give you 4K right ripped the owner off and took advantage of him and his health condition? 😠😠😠😠

    • @GTZ05
      @GTZ05  Před 2 měsíci +4

      The car was advertised in the 6K range and all negotiations were done prior to interstate travel.. So you would have offered 10K? Don’t think it was a 10K car, would have been cheaper to buy one already re-sprayed, than spend $$ here. There were no takers for the car in its location and the daughter wanted it gone. The car made it home under its own power so there was never discussion of a tow truck to get it back to NSW in the negotiations. On that note I have always paid below market value for most of my cars with sellers with no health issues, so there is no difference here. The market sets the price on what someone is willing to pay and let a car go for. Some owners also want to sell it to someone that will take care of it for years to come, that also has some value. You are totally entitled to you opinion, but to accuse my brother of taking advantage of an older man with health issues is unfounded.

    • @scabootie
      @scabootie Před 2 měsíci +2

      I don't know how you gleaned all that from what was discussed by these guys. Sounds like the owner was in a declining state and his daughter who was looking after him wanted one less problem to deal with.
