    I know they say for everyone to stay home so that you can do your job. This video is great because now drivers can see how difficult it is at times for you to see and with your large plow blade, you take up some serious real estate on the road. Great video.....thanks for posting.

    I hope you don't get sick of making these videos mate, they are awesome, especially these snow and ice ones, Tasmania gets bugger all snow really, a little bit up in the high country but most of the place never really sees it, I have never actually seen a plow working so it's pretty interesting. I can relate to your hay and earth-moving stuff though and I like the way you do things. Keep up the good work bud.

    great video Dennis. Brings back lots of memories of my life growing up as a kid living in the country in the 40's and 50's in Ontario Canada.
    Seen the snow like you are showing many many times sometimes and you might wait two days for a plow to plow your road and you couldn't even walk out it was so deep.
    The Late 50's I moved to the big city of Toronto Ontario Canada I grew up here as a teen and still live here now. Seen many big storms like you are plowing in the city.
    Thing is in the city you have nowhere to put the snow. It has to be hauled away. would cost several million dollars over a bad winter.
    You are doing a great job sir stay safe.

    Yep, I'd called that snowed-in. Luckily all it just missed us but; we going to get rain for the next three days. But I'll take mud over snow any day. I use to have to scrape snow at my old job (airport maintenance); we had a rubber belt on the top of the blades that hung down (about 8 inches), that really helped keeping the snow from blowing back at the windshield. Be safe out there.

    Here in WI, they use a Town dump truck (Freightliner) to do basic highway/road snow plowing. If we get heavier snow, they break out the fairly new big Oshkosh truck with snowplow (very long wings) & sand/salt spreader on the dump bed. NOW it the snow is really bad, they will use the big Cat road grader with a big V-plow drift buster on the front, the blade w/ long wing on the side. After each big storm, that thing will go up & down the roads and push the snow way back from the road up to 8' over. Take care!

  • @Badgermatt-nc5nr
    @Badgermatt-nc5nr Před 5 lety

    Just a piece of advice you can take or not. Lol. Where snow is drifting try to roll and push as much as you can to the downwind side and as little as possible upwind. Big piles upwind at the edge of the road make an area of low pressure that lets the blowing snow drop out of the wind and fall on the ground, if there is no pile it will keep blowing across the road and tend to rise up over the larger pile on the other side then drop snow on its far edge. Our area still uses snow fencing in places to kind of do this same thing. Great video, can't wait for part 2.

      @DLHFarms  Před 5 lety

    Heated wipers should be mandatory in winter climates. I’m a truck driver in Wisconsin and run everblades on my big rig. Definitely a life saver. You need to put a led light bar on the roof facing forward it’ll be so much better than the factory lights which are mostly blocked by the blade.

    The road I grew up on had a spot by a wide open field that would always drift across the road when the wind was right. Someone planted a grape vineyard there, (lots of those around the area), and that put a stop to the drifting. I had a tractor to plow my driveway and the neighbors with and I got tired of the maintenance, so I sold it and I pay someone 25 dollars a crack to plow it and it's way less expensive that way and I don't have to do anything.

    I enjoy watching your videos. I have a suggestion. To help keep some of the slush and snow off of your windshield you may want to look into putting some belting on the top of the blade. Of you build a even angeling it forward would be better than nothing but angeling down would be the ticket. Even on the angels on the sides would work because it's flexible.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  Před 5 lety

      It would be difficult to do because of the spill guard thats on this blade

  • @HankinsExcavating

      We run rubber flaps on all our plows and when the snow is light or the temperature gets below 20 the flap is worthless.

    THe main reason for the rubber blades is in towns not to tear up sewer manhole top and similar stuff in the roadway. That steel blade will not the top off a manhole that causes lots of problems. If knocking the top off manholes is not an issue then use a steel blade.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  Před 5 lety

      We don't have man holes here.

    • @johnmcmickle5685
      @johnmcmickle5685 Před 5 lety

      @@DLHFarms Another thing that would require a rubber cutting bit is connector pavement where joints have mover. If there is a vertical differential and you hit it with a steel blade all kinds of thing can get broken, and not just pavement or equipment.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  Před 5 lety +1

      The blade has a trip edge so if it hits something solid it folds back.

  • @andrewscott820

    Grab yourself a few cans of flat black paint and black out the back of your plow. You'll see the snow in front much better as your head lights/work lights won't be reflecting off the yellow ruining your night vision.

    Man I need to move wherever you are at. In Pennsylvania they dont even maintain the interstate as well as you are doing on those side roads. And why do you do both sides? Here in Pennsylvania the plows can only make one pass down the middle 😂 its nice to see a competent plow driver. Well done sir

    I’m waiting in suspense for part 2 when you needed the tire chains. I’m curious if you were having the same trouble as I was with this snow. VDOT sent me to every backroad mountainside this side of the county. Luckily I made it through without tearing anything up. Got a set of chains yesterday for the front for next time.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  Před 5 lety +1

      I always run as long as I can without the chains because sometimes you just don't need them and they start breaking links after about 10 hours of use then you have that to deal with that. But when it gets deep or slick underneath you have to run them. Make sure you buy some repair links that fit your chain and get a chain tool if you don't have one. You can't drive at full speed with them either... Well you can but I wouldn't recommend it.
