It makes sense. There is no many jobs you do where you can be humiliated. Getting on stage and getting booed off, a stripper taking her clothes off, or a fighter getting their ass kicked can follow you around. You have to also willingly put yourself in that position when most people are scared of the possible failure. I thought it was a great example that made sense. Ussually his comments don’t make sense at all.

I love how Theo always has to delicately tiptoe around the fact that if you're poor and grew up white around a lot of black people, you got jumped by black kids all the time, lol.
I doubt that's what he meant. I'm from Northern Louisiana and we embraced all of the white kids who hung around us. I also wrestled and played baseball and there were plenty of white boys with the same hothead mentality. It seems to be a problem if a black guy is a hothead but its almost a badge of honor if the same thing is being said about a white guy.
@@DCB1209 Northern Louisiana is basically southern Arkansas. There isn't nearly the same dynamic as what we had further south in Louisiana.
I lived outside of Lafayette, in Duson, Churchpoint, and Rayne, those areas, and black folks were just plain hostile towards white people. Same as what you find in places like Covington, Mandeville, and thereabout, where Theo grew up.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that all black people hated all white people. Half my friends and a large part of my family are black. But when half your population is black, the percentage that's going to be hateful really stands out. And let's not pretend that it isn't a large percentage, because it's probably more than half, at least, lol.

As a wrestler I agree with the analogy you were trying to make between all of those roles. Its just you vs whatever obstacle with no room for error. Also at least for wrestling and fighting, the ratio of training compared to the fight adds a lot of weight and meaning.

Someone asking how your father is doing is one of the most heartwarming things someine can say to you. I remember i was biking through a park with 9 o clock curfew at midnight, and a local cop pulls me over. I thought for sure i was getting the fine everyone complains about. Instead he asks how I’m doing and what’s going on; I give him a brief summary of my night, as politely and peppered with anecdotes, just being myself like I talk to anyone, especially those I ought to respect. The officer goes (officer fox) “oh great! How’d your fatha’ doing?” And I’ll always remember that, because even though he BARELY knows my dad, the point was, those are the words you hear out of a long time family friend. Those were the words I hear from the city cops that attended my Italian grandmother’s funeral. As i soon as i heard officer fox ask about my father i knew he was more focused on me as an individual than we was thinking about me as a potential source of income, and I could relax, and sure enough he let me cut right through the park so i could get home quickly.
