- Our favourite thing about being vegan is the limitless potential to get creative in the kitchen. In our new video, we show you how to make vegan bacon at home using nothing but banana skins and some kitchen cupboard staples.
We're always looking for ways to reduce food waste and use up leftover ingredients from our fridge, so these two recipes - one rather simple and one a bit more technical - are perfect for replicating that delicious smokey flavour and crispy texture of bacon, just by using food that would usually get thrown in the bin.

I never thought I could make this myself, you guys make it look EASY!
Great to see a full form recipe video, more of this please.
Saw this recipe on Chef Jana's channel a couple of years ago, it's great!
Love the Seitan recipe too! Us long-term Greens need a challenge now and again 😁💪
watching this video definitely made me go bananas too lol
''Resident flexitarian''🤣
I'm from the US and we have a sandwich which you probably have over there a BLT. Bacon lettuce and tomato. I really really miss that sandwich. I was never a bacon and egg type of person. Enduring the pandemic I could not find in the vegan section any vegan bacon. It was weird that they stopped making it? I'm going to make the second version. Good job looks delicious
BLTs are what i miss, too!
I just make an original BLT. But may try this different version.
I'm a bacon and egg person. I found a recipe for sunny side up finally that's veganized. I didn't try it yet.
I really liked how you guys edited the video... It gave a lot of good laughs... :)
I never had bacon in my life (vegan or not)!
The canned audience sfx at 3:50 😆😂
Hello it’ incredible !!! How much gluten have you put on each préparation please ? Thanks
Loved this video and the edits made me laugh out loud 😂 so refreshing to see some memes in a cooking video, defo going to try making this!
Very innovative. I'm curious if anyone has researched the nutritional value of banana skins...🤔
A quick google search says that in addition to the nutrition of the banana "The banana peels themselves offer additional nutrients, including: Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Magnesium, Potassium, Fiber, Protein"
Folk who lived during the aftermath of the Spanish Civil war have told me they ate banana peels (presumably from the Canaries)* to keep going.
*There was actually a banana plantation there handed over to Franco to use as a concentration camp: I won't mention the (famous) brand!
😄👍🌱
This video was ridiculous. I loved it!
Still prefer bacon from seitan washes starch...cheaper than this recipe. This One looks good btw
Nice recipes! I might try the first one. The marinade actually might work on other things, such as aubergine/eggplant EXTRA THIN slices, so I might try different alternatives. As for the video, I actually appreciate what you're trying to go for, more memes and silly stuff, but in this specific video I think you overdid it a bit. Maybe tone it town a bit for future videos, it can get a bit distracting, but overall I like that you're trying to give the videos a bit of a personal spin instead of just show ingredients, process, eating, and we're done.
I have one question though. Why would you want to transform something that is good and nuitritous in its own right into something that it is immitating?
First comment!
you two have gone bananas, nay you 3! Tabitha Brown tried it and didn't like it. What am I missing here? Maybe she didn't try this one? Holy smokes
Maybe chill on the Tiktok vibes. We're here for the good food, not this craziness. Whoever edited this.... Tell them no.
It's awful isn't it, they were great the way they were 😔 they were so natural & cool no swearing, just great food & banter 😀 PLEASE COME BACK TO US LADS!!! X
😭
Agreed...prefer the "Saturday morning" recipe tutorial vibes. Hate challenges and movie splices. Bring back old way! What's with the cheering clips? 😩
It was constant too. Dumb sound effects and weird things flashing up literally every 5 seconds. It was so hard to watch. I just want the recipe not a headache.
I think the same
For the record, I love your new content style ☺️💪 Traditional, funky, I’m here for it all 💚
Too much with interruptions. Especially bad boys.
I'm vegetarian and I don't need food whit meat names.I like to eat vegetables and fruits not meat.
That's cool, you do you boo. However, many of us eat meat alternatives because we enjoy the experience we get from eating meat, but we don't want animals to die for it.
that's awesome! I'm with you and hope to ascend to your vegan levels one day.
Is vodka really an ingredient? Or was that just a cutaway? Lol
just a cutaway for the vinegar
The many interruptions 😐...
This!!!!!!
The video content is great without the corny add-ins.
I wonder why nobody is trying to turn bacon into bananas.
because you're going from expensive to cheap.
What's the point of imitations, if you don't want meat!??
I don't get it either. Usually it's for people who suffered diseases, but to me fake meat isn't vegan - it perpetuates the idea of eating animals by trying to turn plants into them - not cool. I'm personally on a journey to see what it's like to make what isn't a fake meat. Any pointers?
Thanks for the recipe but please please do away with the silly TikTok sound effects and inserts. Just not necessary and very annoying. I love your books, tv show and recipe videos but this style is just not comfortable viewing.
just eat bacon
Nah, this is murder and cancer free 😉
That's fine advice if you don't care about animals enough to avoid purchasing products from industries that abuse and kill animals (which is not meant to be an incindiary comment; it's literally what the meat industry does). For those of us who do care about animals enough to stop supporting these industries, but still enjoy the taste of bacon, these meat alternatives are ideal.
where's the fun and creativity in that?
The resident flexi never once said that he loves it… 🫢
no - but he showed it!
