She didn't take it off that day because, as she said, she wanted them to "see what they did to Jack". Both of her kids had their birthday that week (Nov.25 & 27). She had their birhday parties to try to keep things "normal". She was one incredibly strong woman.

Wasn’t John John’s birthday on the same day his father was laid to rest though? And Robert Kennedy’s was the 20th, 2 days before his brother’s death 😥💔

Jackie had to keep that suit on. I think psychologically it would have been traumatizing to take it off too soon. And yes the image of the blood stained suit really made an impression. People needed to see that.

You could see family seeing it that way. In one way it is historical record and in another way a personal decision. Her call. Personally if it were my family I would like the evidence displayed, as it hiding any truth about it is insufficient catharsis, which is deeply needed with respect to these events. And when the truth is known some years down the road, these reflections of it, are symbols or resistance to that tyranny which his death represents. No matter what else has been achieved by those who took part in this travesty in the execution of government power, they made some deep and fundamental mistakes here. It was just lusting after power caused these events.

I originally thought that the suit was more of a soft pale pink with black trim, which would have looked beautiful; however it was more shocking pink with a dark blue(navy) trim. I am glad the suit has been saved and not tossed away. Would love to see it in a museum but I know that would be crossing the line of respect for Jackie and her husband.

Let's see...while married to JFK, she had a liaison with an Italian in Italy (where she spent a summer); Maria Callas (Aristotle Onassis's mistress) was livid about Jackie's relationship with Onassis during a sojourn on his yacht. Then there was the affair she had with Bobby in the aftermath of the assassination. That's just for starters. She was not a "loyal" wife--and JFK wasn't a faithful husband and a "marvelous lady" she was not. She was a gold-differ extraordinare and, if Aristotle Onassis hadn't died when he did, he was about to DIVORCE her high-living arse.

There may be some legal conflict about that dress in the future. President. Bush signed a bill in 1992 "The JFK Assassination Evidence Act" or something to that effect that allows the U.S. government to seize any items deemed to be evidence in the JFK assassination with reasonable compensation.. At this point there's nothing to be gained by publicly displaying that dress. All it will accomplish is bringing out more conspiracy theorists from the woodwork. They should keep it in storage at the JFK Library.

There are two reasons given why he went through that inaugural ceremony on Air Force One, with the widow of the recently-murdered president by his side. One is that he wanted to show the nation tradition and transfer of power were being observed even under tragic circumstances, that he was in charge, so there would be no chaos or panic, etc.

FBI and Mafia were assigned the hit with the sanction of the CIA. At the last minute the hit was called off, but the hitmen proceeded because they wanted to get paid. Connolly knew; he cried “they’re going to kill us ALL”. Note use of “they”, “kill” and “us all” showed he knew there was a they behind it, not a him. Also the shock that anyone but JFK was hit. Judge Sarah Hughes swears in LBJ! This should've been a somber moment, now take a look at Jackie at 0:20, an approprite look of total shock. I have to think that Lady Bird Johnson felt like a second class citizen next to Jackie Kennedy and I'm sure she was jealous of Jackie's populaity. However, someone should've told her to WIPE that damn smile off her face! Completely inapproprite! At 0:15 Both Johnson's have a smug look on their faces that I'd like to slap off!

I agree with benjovi55, it was a mixed emotion of shock, horror & sadness but also proud of her husband being sworn in as President of the United States, that's still a big deal, regardless of the 'how you got there'. One thing to remember, LBJ & Lady Bird weren't in the car with the Kennedys, or in that emergency room for that matter, they didn't see for themselves 'just how bad' it really was, it wasn't until later & that was only by 'witness accounts'. So no, I don't begrudge Lady Bird at all for having a few seconds of pride in her husband for taking the oath to the highest office in the country.

Another thing to remember, LBJ DID like & respect Kennedy eventhough it was Kennedy's staff that treated him like $h!t & was talking about taking him off the ticket for the 64 re-election campaign. His handling of Viet Nam aside, once in office, LBJ actually accomplished more in 1 year than Kennedy did in 3. It's just sad that he always had 'Kennedy's Shadow' hovering over his head & was more remembered for how he bumbled Viet Nam than the good works he did here in the US.

I would of felt it was my duty, my husband was being sworn in as President, and because of the circumstances, I would feel the need to comfort the former slain Presidents widow....but she felt no sense of nurturing compassion toward Jackie, who most definitely would have, if their roles had been reversed....again, completely different upbringings....one of class....the other, just spoiled sass, the smile is disturbing, it shows she's completely detached from the emotion of the situation.....not a woman I can show much respect for, sadly

That said, Lady Bird is grinning like a bride while 34-year-old Jacqueline is covered in blood and brains. No human woman would behave like that no matter how loyal she was to her husband or how pleased she might have secretly felt deep down in her heart. The look on the people’s faces on the left side has got to be the creepiest photographs in American history. No wonder they weren’t generally published, they are horrifically inappropriate. You usually only see the ones where he’s being sworn in and when they are looking concerned at Jackie. Newspaper editors chose those two because they certainly couldn’t run these. My God.

2:50 ARGGHHHH! it was NOT a knockoff! It was made from ALL Chanel materials. Coco Chanel knew about it and authorized it, and the records are in the Chanel archives in Paris to prove it. It even cost JUST AS MUCH as a Chanel suit made on Rue Cambon. It's just that Chez Ninon put the suit together, so they were able to put their label on it and this was to avoid Jackie being accused of being unpatriotic and buying Parisian clothes. By having Chez Ninon sew it together (in New York), they got the right to say it was "American."

US forces were not well received by the South Vietnamese people. Part of the problem was that US forces could never be sure who the enemy was. Later, the infamous Pentagon Paper, released by Dr. Daniel Elssberg, revealed the ineptitude of LBJ's handling of the war effort.
