- Reading Janny Wurts for the very first time.
Sorcerer's Legacy is her debut novel. Her prose is so well crafted, that it almost became too much.
Love to hear your thoughts on this. What did you think of this novel? Do you agree or disagree with my mixed feelings?
Can’t wait to see what you think of the Empire trilogy!
Me too. I'll first be reading the Fire Cycle Trilogy by Janny Wurts.
Thank you for a great analysis! Youve got a very efficient way of going through the reading experience, and this was an unknown fantasy author for me. I'll have to look through your channel a bit more, thanks!
Thanks Jasmin. Wurts is most certainly worth a try.
How fun! A new-to-me author! She sounds like a bit of a struggle to read. I am intrigued to hear more about her books as you continue with her series. Thank you for the review!
Even despite the density of the prose, reading didn't feel like a chore. On the contrary.
I have yet to read anything by Wurts, but I’m interested to see how she progress through her career
My next intended read by Wurts is To Ride Hell's Chasm. Just the title alone stirs the imagination.
I've read The Cycle of Fire Trilogy (which is a light read) and 50% into Grand Conspiracy - book 5 in the Wars of Light and Shadow.
Wow, you're way ahead of me with Miss Wurts. I cannot find copy's of her first trilogy, but I definitely want to read it. I'll go check second hand.
@@DutchGreyBeard I found them at the used book stores.
Very interesting! I have always wanted to try this author, the story and prose has me intrigued. However, it sounds like it may be a bit too heavy for me, my concentration lapses a lot at night, my most preferred time to read, so I prefer books that are light hearted. I may move this author down my TBR, not remove, just down a bit. 😂 Thanks for this!
Please don't let my opinion hold you back. This book was a joy to read, and no doubt her later works improve. I'm glad to hear Wurts has not fallen off your TBR.
Did you see the video by Talking Story with Wurts? It's very long but very interesting.
I saw it, haven’t come around to watching it yet. Thnx!
"i love it, but it tires me."
exactly! i love rich prose, but sometimes, instead of the clear communication for which language is best employed, the wearisome reader is left only with extremely complicated sentences of many numerous and repetitive parts; prepositions piled upon prepositions, lists of adjectives, and numerous connections leading to abnormally lengthy sentences, so that we realize the author has forgotten the lesson: a little goes a long way. 😅
Nailed it! 😂
Thanks for your review ! I have always been curious about Janny Wurts but I am afraid that the prose might be above my reading level as a non native english speaker and end up being just as you said "I like it but it tires me"
You're welcome. It is hard to estimate whether this may happen to you as well. It didn't tire me throughout the whole book, only at times when the overdose of poetic language hit me...
Curse of the Mistwraith is not only very dense, but I had to refer to the dictionary far more often than any other book I have read. And yes, there were a lot of times I had to also re-read passages multiple times. But it was a unique story to me and I really enjoyed the writing until I got tired of it.
Ships of Merior (Ships of Merior & Warhost of Vastmark) was incredible and not nearly as dense. I should have stopped there.
