Hot tip: keep a spray bottle on hand when working on a longer term project w acrylic!! It keeps it wet to keep it useable ((: I personally use plastic take away containers and whenever its open I I'll mist it every 20 mins or so while I'm painting
Sometimes if I’m coming back to a mixed colour I just cover it with a wet paper towel
@Min Min I do that too
Thanks for the tips. I just started using acrylic and I realise some of my paint wastes and if it's a mixed colour it's hard to get the exact same shade again. So this was very helpful advice
Oh.. gouache is exactly my style! Though as a complete dumb dumb with paint in general I’m not sure how to not waste such precious paint..
Since gouache reactivates and its also so pigmented its pretty efficient! Its okay
Although depending on the brand they may be harder to reactivate or may reactivate in a more liquid state. Some others like (from my experience) talens extrafine stay rather creamy sfter reactivating and also it doesnt need too much work
Maybe it would be good to start with thin acrilic, so it's not reactivated, and then work over it with oil paint or gouache
Nah, you wouldn't waste much paint, trust me. Even a blob was enough for me to paint a background because it was soooooo pigmented. I've run out of water before the paint.
I discovered recently too and I love it. It's flat color effect is perfect for drawing in a cartoon and anime style. It will look digital when you ink the painting afterwards. And you don't need much paint at all to cover a big area. It's a very flexible medium.
@@hexkwondo that's exactly what i thought when i saw it. very clean and digital looking, the best of watercolor and the best of acrylic (in my opinion) mixed in one.

I just realized that too. My brain was so confused why my watercolors weren’t working correctly
there are different kinds of watercolor. some come in pans and can be dry and semi moist. or it can be a liquid. some watercolors do come in tubes! you just have to be careful and make sure you're buying what you want.
I guess removing fine art education from early education has had an effect on the world.
I grew up in the seventies and this was taught in grade one; the fact that this is new to so many of you folks everywhere breaks my heart.
I was looking for some videos to show my kindergarten aged niece and nephew BUT, I am glad that fine art seem is popular again for young people.
From one artist to others.....much love!

I love watercolour and gouache but acrylic is my type, I see other people prefer gouache but for me, nothing can beat acrylic, it’s the best, I LOVE it. (This is my opinion)
Hang Le That’s fantastic that somebody can love acrylic so much. I never seemed to like it because of how fast it dries. Maybe I should just stick to my favorite, oil paint.
Hang Le i like acrylic bc i work fast so i don’t need the slow drying time like with oils, and they’re so easy to clean up. I got water mixable oils and even though they’re supposed clean up just like acrylic but they’re still a pain to wash.

I used Gouache for a long time and the main reasons are it offers the best from both watercolor and acrylic. it can be transparent or opaque and can be applied on colored papers, cardboards or even canvas. Watercolor is limited to white papers only and if you applied too much it could make the colors burn while acrylics are permanent so make sure you maximized your pallet before storing them. A fixative substance can be applied if you want your Gouache painting to be permanent.
interesting! I think it's time I invested in a set of gouache pigments
Wdym by maximizing pallet before storing them?
All of these are awesome, but I personally like watercolor paints because they are perfect for landscapes
Really! Ive always consittered acrilics to be the best for landscapes XD
And here I thought crayons were the best 🥴🥴
@@stan3075 it depends on the artist and the technique honestly
@@beautyflystudios9309 same
Yes watercolor is the best for English landscapes, beautiful effect
Wait... So like... Gouache is Inbetween acrylics and watercolour? Cos that's what the thumbnail looks like! 😂
You can also get acrylic gouache.
Yeah acryla gouache is like acrylic paint but the texture is slightly more gouache-y and it dries matte.
I use all four together, it's fun.
I don't love watercolor's look but I love working with them.
Thats how id describe it after my first try. Ive used both, and its basically opaque watercolor.
You can add glycerin to acrylic paints if you don't want them to dry quickly on your paper or canvas. However if you're too adapted to acrylic paints like me, when the drying time changes, you're more prone to making mistakes. You may mix colors on canvas when you're thinking you're adding a new layer. So be careful. 😉
Thanks

I’m a newbie painter. Started with Acrylics and just bought a cheap set of water color paint palate. TFS this most helpful video! Love your channel! I look forward to wAtching and leArning so much! 👍🤗❤️🇺🇸
In my experience, cheap watercolor don't give as good results as one would expect. Buy a palete which is a bit more expensive but not overly so, no need to go to high-end brands, and you will see the difference. This is coming from an amateur artist who learned the hard way :)
Oh, and have fun :)
I never appreciated acrylic that much, but this helped me!! Especially the part about layering, now I will definitely buy a few tubes 🤩
Thank you , your videos are pretty helpful for aspiring artists or just art students wanting to be more educated on these MEDIUMS.

Awww glad I cod help!
I started learning water colour painting during these lockdowns.......
Your video helps a lot
You inspire me so much! Watching all your paint activates my creativity 👍🏾❤️💙💚🙏🏽
I highly recommend using an acrylic medium instead of water! The acrylic paint acts like liquid plastic (sets after about 10 minutes and can't be reactivated) and the water breaks apart the molecules instead of actually working with the paint. Using a thinning medium meant for acrylic will do the same as water but without ruining your painting's quality in the long run!
You did a Wonderful job! It was very helpful😊 I bought some paints and I didn't try them out yet, but after watching this I wanna paint😆 Thank you so much!✌😉

This was so straightforward and answered a lot of the questions i had about guache and had some things i didn’t know about acrylic thrown in as well thank you 🙏
Thanks for the lesson, Makko! I've always been so confused in these mediums. Now, I can use all the mediums with no problems
I think this was a great video on the different mediums! I started with oils but wanted something that wasn't so messy, then went onto acrylic which is one of my fav mediums but it takes a bit of time to set up/cleanup, then I used watercolors but found that it takes too long to make intense colors, gouche I haven't used but it looks like I can get an intense color right away and cleanup is easier than acrylic and oils. I shall give it a try!
Thanks for your clear explanations and demonstrations!
Thank you so much for explaining what Gouache was. I have watercolors but it wasn't reaching the caliber i wanted. I kept hearing about Gouache but the internet never really explained it well enough. Great video. I'll be getting some gouache paints now.
Your watercolor paintings are amazing, I’ll never look at water paints the same way, thank you. ❤️❤️❤️
This was really helpful and interesting to learn about! I suck at water colors. When I paint at one place then all appears to have appeared with different strokes. Going here and there. Sometimes, I mix much water, or sometimes much color. It seems to destroy everything I try to create.
Also, the paint doesn't blend that easily that they say on paper. This is rather hard.
Love how you explain with detailss

Hello im a beginner in watercolor thank you for sharing this i also watched your tricks and tips in watrcolor i really learned a lot.. Thank You
Never heard of Gouache before.. So if it can be reactivated after its dry, does that mean to protect it once you are completely finished it needs put in a picture frame or something so that it doesn't accidentally get reactivated & ruined?
It re-activates really really easily, so yeah, definitely store or display it with that in mind. Also Gouache is generally not the best medium if you want something that is lightfast. But I love working with it, it's really fun! You can't do the same things with it as watercolor or acrylic though
