The 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring Is An Ultra Luxury Electric Sedan With Top Dog Range

- The luxury EV segment continues to grow every year but seeing a brand-new brand doesn't happen very often. The #Lucid brand is one of the newest brands in America and the #LucidAir is the brand's first new production model. The #AirGrandTouring is designed to target the #TeslaModelS directly and with up to 516 miles of range, the #Air has the best range of any production electric vehicle today.

Happy Weds guys! We’ve been so excited to drive the Lucid Air ever since it came out! It truly does feel like the rival that Tesla has been fearing for years. Once Lucid gets the software glitches under control, the insanely long range and premium craftsmanship will really shock you! Color us impressed, looking forward to seeing their upcoming Gravity SUV later this year.
Great review. One nit to pick: Lucid says its main competitor is the Mercedes S Class and EQS. The only thing thing it has in common with the Tesla Model S is that it's electric. The Model S, in fact when it was first launched, marketed itself as a family sedan. It's high price was a result of being a new technology and economy of scale. Great review.
Nice review keep up the good work RedLine
I own a 2015 p85d model s just upgrade to the 2023 model s plaid, I don’t think lucid can’t beat tesla model s for the price now, my 2015 can do 0-60 under 3 sec!! The tech in tesla is far beyond lucid!! It’s simple
Unfortunately, it is not a competitor to Tesla. I don’t think you can do a full review of a product without taking in considerations of how much the product costs to produce (not its sales price). Lucid produced 7,180 cars in 2022 and had 3.2B of operating expenses. I could not find exactly how much they lose per vehicle, but it is a lot (tens of thousands at least).
If you want to compare Lucid to Tesla, you basically should try to image what a Tesla could do if they were allowed to lose, at least, 20/30k per car.
Aptera will hopefully get their vehicle on the market.
Always been a Lucid booster from even before they released their first model. This new Lucid Air Grand Touring is a supremely capable and luxurious car. My hope is that Lucid comes out with more affordable models.
Everyone starts at the top to keep the margins high and build out scale. The cheapest Air is around $80,000 and if they can get manufacturing sorted I'm sure whatever comes after the Gravity will be cheaper.
Hopefully they figure out how to come out with something in the $30k range starting. If they can figure that out, and make them at a profit, they’ll have a seriously compelling product on their hands for the masses.
I think your expectations are too high. The only EVs in that price range are the Bolt twins and the Leaf. Both manufactures produce far more vehicles than Lucid. EVs are like any other technology, the price will decrease with scale and tech improvements, both of which take time.
They're somewhat following the Tesla model with introducing the Model S large sedan first to establish the brand, followed by smaller and more affordable models(yes I know Tesla had the small coupe first, but Model S was the "we've arrived" vehicle for them). Just due to the overall trend of the auto industry, i don't suspect we'd see a sub-$50K Lucid. In a land of $55K Mustang Mach Es and Ioniq 5s/EV6s, I don't think its on the horizon for a luxury brand, but boy do I HOPE I am wrong!
@@ReDiiKuLuS who says they want to be a company for the masses ? Lmao there's no money in that. Luxury cars have higher profit margins , they will leave the cheap stuff to mainstream brands who have the production capacity for that.
I recently visited to a Lucid showroom in Seattle area. They had a Grand Touring on display. Absolutely stunning. A true luxury car with luxurious features to match the price. The paint quality is near Lexus levels.
I have checked both lucid and Tesla s. Tesla plastic taste likes cheap commute car, lucid really feels a luxury car, much better made.
These are absolutely mesmerizing in person. So impressive. The design is years ahead of any Tesla.
of course you'd like electric cars 💀
As a Lucid GT owner, I can say the car is a pleasure to drive on a daily basis. I get tons of compliments and interest in it. Truly a work of art.
Are the thick A pillars a problem. The blind spot looks large.
Take close notice Telsa. This is how a car is suppose to be built like!
@Brian Lee Shit, both Tesla and BMW cars pretty much suck ass.
Hopefully Lucid sees a lot of success! It might finally give Tesla the push to up their quality significantly and redesign their cars, at least visually
Hopefully lucid does a better job at making an ev close to what TESLA makes 🤣
Iron sharpens Iron
I work at tesla look up the new tesla roadster on the internet
I lol'd when you did that first launch. 😆
Lucids interior is by far the best I've seen in a car. Goes beyond mercedes EQs or BMW is. Especially the seats. The interior looks like something from the architectural digest magazine. It looks way better in real life than in the photos in their promotional material.
Its more conventional. Not goofy like Tesla. Although they still tried to reinvent the [steering] wheel.
I saw this on the road one day and asked... "Is this where the future is headed?" it looks very futuristic.
Wait till you see the Gravity
Looks perfect to me. My only nit is that I'd prefer black carpeting on the floor.
This was the Santa Cruz interior. They have other interiors one of which is called Mojave and that has dark gray carpeting on the floor. I’m expecting to take delivery of my Touring with Mojave interior any day now.
@@julianevjourney I just took delivery of my Touring with Mojave interior 3 weeks back and I ordered the _Graphite_ all weather mats. They sell black mats too but I would highly recommend the graphite with mojave because it is an almost exact color match.
Finally an EV I could see myself in.
You should drive a Tesla .. you’ll see yourself in an ev over any other car that’s out there.
Holy cow the Lucid Air is the quickest electric car that’s incredible!!😃
I honestly think this is the best looking EV on the market.
It’s impressive the founder of Lucid was a Designer and engineer for Tesla and actually did work on the Model S
Like Lamborghini is to Ferrari. They never learn.
I’ve seen a few of these in the wild and, man, they look slick. The Lucid Air has this Sapphire trim that appears will be one of the, if not the, quickest car in the world. It smoked the Plaid on a Hagerty drag race. Very impressive. Hopefully, Lucid sticks around.
I saw my first one on the road between Washington PA and Pittsburg 2 weeks ago. It looked nicer than in videos ive seen.
Has a TON of road presence, even in darker colors like this.
I love that Lucid has a traditional gauge cluster and incorporated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto!
Yep, Lucid doesn't go way out to left field the way Tesla does. I prefer it. If only it had a real opening sun roof.
I agree 5:56 that these Lucids look better in person than in photos.
I had a model s for ten years, love the car but was even more pleasantly surprised by my new air GT. Power, range, style aside, I am just hooked by Air GT's amazing driving dynamics. Go test drive, it will make your day
I drove one at a recent show. Amazing driving impression. What a fun car and the back seat is huge!!
This vehicle is GORGEOUS 😍.
Better looking car than Tesla.
Probably better made too
Tesla has had the same design for 12 years so it's not high bar to clear...
Subjective, and disagree
looks like a buick 🥴
That’s not hard. Tesla’s look like cheap running shoes.
First, I love that it's designed and made in the USA! Too bad it's so Effing Expensive! I know, ya got "Pay to Play", I'm ok with that, but so few people can afford this car - which makes me not give a damn about it.
Keep in mind, you do have the option of E-Z payments which makes it budget friendly...! Try Lucid today!
those that can afford it love the fact that few people can, they don't want to see a lucid on every block
You know I love this section of your videos...yet the whole video was awesome 👍
Always love your reviews. The EV landscape seems to be full of flagship vehicles. Like to see more accessible options.
A lot of ICE car are either front wheel drive or part time AWD. It is hardly find those in EV. Since EV are more expensive, they are doing top down approach. I only see GM and Nissan are producing cars from the low price point and up.
@@et9300 you forgot Chevy, Equinox EVs looks nice and affordable.
@@mrpogi23 they are not in production, I think they’re talking production vehicles. (Something you, or some people can currently get)
Kia
Ugly. Good video though.
Always good to bump into you unexpectedly here and there! My biggest hope is that Lucid can stay in business long enough for its production to catch up otherwise it will not make it as a business!
lol..Sofyan's giiggles say it all. Yes...this cars performance is flat out insane. TY for the great content as always
Firs impressions are everything and this car is beautiful
Best review of the Lucid Air. Worth the wait !
The Sapphire is bad ass!
Almost at a million subs, Sofyan and team!! **watch out Doug DeMuro and Hoovie**!!😁
I actually haven't heard a single thing about Lucid since they released this. I have see a few. But I hear more about Rivian and the issues they been having compared to the Air.
I do kinda like the idea of having more American companies or just new brands in general. They are obviously unaffordable and not for me. But still like the thought. I'm Ina weird double standard spot where I would laugh at their mistakes but also be disappointed if they went under.
Wow
Reaaally impressive review... you have touched each minor practical aspect of a vehicle.
You are guru in reviewing vehicles.
Keep the impressive job up.
Thanks
Lucid is awesome future technology here today. I love what they are doing.
There's a road safety law that you must always have tail lights even when the back trunk is open , because if you drive with it open (on accident) you won't have tail-lights and you could be rear-ended. So any car that has tail lights on the hatch needs a second set
True. Tailights in the U.S. must be on a fixed surface.
You are absolutely right, and it does have a second set. It's visible when you open the trunk.
Seen this thing in person!🔥 simple yet commands presence
I’ve been waiting for your review on the Lucid Air ever since it came out!
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO LUCID FAMILY 🙋♂️❤🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🎉🎉🎉🎉😉👍😁👏👏🙆♂️GREAT JOB ON THE LUCID REVIEW 😁✌
I have never seen a car reviewer have so much fun with acceleration 🙂
Only the driver. The passengers just get sick.
It needs a modern configurable HUD and would be nice if they had an adjustable blind spot camera for the A pillars.
Best Car Review Channel On The Planet
This EV is sexy as hell! Definitely looks way better than a Tesla, I’ll say it for you lol!
Better looking and seemingly better quality than a Tesla. Sure, a Plaid may be faster, but this seems more of a complete vehicle, particularly for the money.
It kind of reminds me of a modern Chrysler LH-series car in style, which isn't a bad thing. And yes, the jelly-belly MBs are just atrocious, don't have a frunk, and aren't the most efficient despite their teardrop shape. And as for i7...well, tastes are an acquired item...
I wish GM(less likely with the Ultium system being new), Ford, or Stellantis would partner with Lucid to further exploit their battery-propulsion systems. We are talking about a "start-up" delivering 400+ miles of range from a true full-size 'Murican sedan that is 5200+lbs. Imagine with a cash infusion from the Big 3 that still lag with a vehicle that offer this mix of power and efficiency.
Another great “real world” introduction to a new EV option. Thank you Kim!
It pulls harder because it’s actually unleashing all 800+HP above 60+ MPH. Below that speed they are lilting torque/power so that it doesn’t do an AWD burnout.
Kind of like how the Model S Plaid only releases the full 1000HP above speeds of 80MPH. So a rolling acceleration from 60-70MPH in a plaid almost feel like it launches as hard from a dig.
But I *want* an AWD burnout!
I’ve seen three Lucid Airs in my neighborhood. Beautiful cars.
Thoroughly enjoyed your Lucid Air review as I do all your reports. You are a sharp guy Sofyan, so I'd like to remind you the company that makes the 911 is Porsh-uh not Porsh. Thanks kiddo.
Great Review. It is nice to see competition to the Model S.
Beautiful car! And like most beautiful cars, unattainable for most people. May as well be a Ferrari, which I would probably prefer to put a down payment on if I had the cash for a Lucid.
those seats😍
This a dream car right there
Best car I've driven.
My Tesla model S makes that same wrrring noise. Sounds awesome. I wish you could set an external noise like the Audi Etron makes. Lucid makes a much nicer car. Redline Reviews is the King of car reviews!
great car but the standout thing to me was the freaking 360 camera!! that looked like a high res video game
Lucid looks amazing !
I saw 3 of them today. I was stunned
I think the build quality is amazing, especially if you compare it to Tesla in earlier days
Tesla's build quality still hasn't really improved
That isn't saying much. Lucid's build quality is pretty bad when ever I see one. Body panels don't fit and the orange peel is prevalent in lighter colors.
Never clicked on a video so fast in my life. 🙌🏼

Yes!

Yes!
Lucid is about to put Tesla to shame.
Still the best EV car for me to drive one day.
A good review, but I was perplexed by your comment that the backseat is "pretty much the same as what you get in the Tesla Model S". We have a 2021 Model S Plaid and a 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance. The passenger cabin of the Air is roomier generally (and far more luxurious) than the Model S but absolutely blows it away in cabin length. With the driver seat in each car set to my preferred driving position, there is 9.5" more of fore/aft rear legroom in the Air. Both cars jack your knees up a bit in the rear due to the battery modules under the floorboard, but the added cabin length of the Air reduces the bend angle of the knee considerably. In fact, if we're carrying more than two adults, we invariably opt for the Air over the Model S.
If you opt for the smaller battery pack in the Air (which still gives the car a bit more EPA range than a Long Range Model S), the floorboard drops 3.15", putting the Lucid rear seating position on par with an S Class Mercedes or 7 Series BMW. Lucid has done an astonishing job with interior packaging on this vehicle.
Finally you got your hands on Lucid! This stuff been out for a while and you usually get new models fairly early, what happened here?
Sometimes brand’s just don’t prioritize us for launches. If we were in LA we probably would have gotten access much earlier but being on the East Coast is always a little more delayed with press vehicles.
@@theredline Yup that totally tracks and is about what I expected, I'm sure most launches and testers do roll out West to East. Thanks for the feedback!
The roof would be an issue for some. I wish someone invents roof with smart 'transition glass" that you turn on to make glass roof darker and off - to make it lighter allowing abundant sunlight.
Sun visors are so awkwardly placed... future car my foot 😂
I love th mid century modern design philosophy of the car. A beautiful vehicle. Hopefully the lower trims come out soon so I can actually afford one.
Absolutely gorgeous vehicle
Looks like a toy. One fender bender it's done.
Lucid killed it. Just wow!
I learn new words and metaphors from him every video. “Finger print magnet” lol
This will be my 1st Lucid Air to get Sofyan.
Lucid's constant updates have brought Apple CarPlay and other new feature since this review came out. The software is now much faster. Lucid is targeted to compete more with Mercedes, Audi, and BMW than with Tesla. Lucid's suspension and driving dynamics are special things. CEO Rawlinson was head engineer at Jaguar and then Lotus before designing the Model S. Chief designer Jenkins previously designed the ND MX-5. Many engineers with deep automotive experience work at Lucid. the Air is a driver's car. Over the last 18 months mine has been mechanically flawless.
Impressive machine!
Such a great EV package. Range for road trips (or weekly work commute), luxury interior, and very spacious. That price tho 🥲
Given the crash of the financial markets, this vehicle couldn't be released at a worst time.
Great review!! Very honest about what it can't do, which is good to know before laying out $138,000+ for a car that's not yet ready for prime time. PLEASE review this car again once it gets the very needed updates and Apple Car Play. Any timeline given for those rollout updates? Keep up the GREAT work. I truly value your reviews.
Wow that's a cheap house damn

New front Sonata gives me Lucid vibe. That's not a bad thing
I have stock in LUCID great car awesome product
Wonder review as usual
400 miles real world range????
wow!
Is the inside frunk release button used to open the frunk and used to close the frunk.
Car is so beautiful 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nice! I wish they’d make the central display fingerprint resistant 😮
Great review. Love this car
How does a seat move in 21 ways? Does it not move back? Don’t seats have to move in even numbers?
I wonder how much it is to replace that windshield.
Luxurious ev vehicle. I like!
I have a couple hundred shares of this at a major loss hahahaahha please keep promoting it
Same here, stopped looking at the red numbers a while ago 😅
667 here baby. Trust me we are all feeling it. But if Lucid can make it. It'll be a great long term hold!
Amazing ❤
I, for the life of me, can not understand why car manufacturers make the floors of cars cream, beige or white. You can never clean them to the point where they are showroom pristine again.
I like the styling more than the Tesla, but there too many little issues at this time. I'm going to give EV's about another 5-7 years before I fully commit. Thanks for the content.
If I could afford it, I'd get lucid air as my next vehicle
Its beautiful
That’s a very nice EV for sure
Fabulous automobile but I read the waiting time for one of their vehicles can be up to a year. The report stated they sold 35000 vehicles (approximately) of one particular model but can only produce a fraction of that number per year. Anyone else have different information?
Looking better than EQS but trunk tailgate is better in EQS for sure 😉 center screen is better in Tesla no doubt 😀 Overall looking good but far for perfect 🤔 keep up with good work 🍻
What a beautiful car, shame most won't be able to afford it.
Nice review as always. Looking forward to a comparison between a Lucid and BMW i7.
Bc there is no comparison
@@Real_Han_Solo And why it is so??

The keyfob does have buttons. It’s how many times you click on it. That’s why you thought it’s freaking out.
I love the interior
Lucid is amazing
Pros to getting a Lucid: More luxury & range than a comparable Tesla Model S. Similar performance.
Pros to getting a Model S: Higher performance from Plaid for a lower price, plus Superchargers
You can't go wrong with either. Just depends what you value more.
Want more luxury and range, get the Lucid. Want more performance and chargers get the Tesla.
Totally agree with you and here are some other pros and cons:
Lucid: More efficient (mi/KWh and space), from everyone I’ve seen who switched to Lucid from a Model S they say build quality and fit and finish is better, will have CarPlay and Android Auto (Tesla has never stated plans on adding them)
Tesla Model S: Much more mature software and drivers assistance
Personally I valued luxury the highest so I went with a Lucid after saying for many years I’m getting a Model S. It’s great that now there are some options.
Would've been nice if you took it to a charging station like you did with the BZ4x I guess you didn't had enough time with the Air
