Congrats Wes. Enjoyed those miles together as well, it made the night go fast. The team stretch we did really helped. I can see why you continued to come back to Cocodona and 1,000 miles of Cocodona is no joke! :)
Thank you Cameron! I’m so happy we got to meet and spend time together.
Congratulations! And great seeing you out there - and thanks again for all the tips and knowledge you provided. Seeing you taking 5 during that climb towards Crown King was really positive in helping me kind of be in the right mind set. "Ok this is a long race - don't try to be a hero. Do what you have to do so you can keep going all week. It's not about speed, it's about preserving energy and keeping your body (relatively) intact for later"
Right on. That first day was tough for me, I’m glad that seeing it helped give you perspective. 🙌🏼 Was really awesome to finally see you in person.
Great job Wes! Loved following along.
Thank you Jeff. I hope to see you at Cocodona next time.
Hey man, it was great to meet you in person on race day. If only it hadn't been on the way up Lane Mt. Lol. I'm so glad you perked up and got back on track. I saw all of that smoke wrapped around Elden as we approached it. Luckily, it got blown away before we started the climb. Super thankful for that. It was clogging my sinuses and making my eyes water on level trails.
Another big accomplishment for you! Congrats!
Thank you Alex, it was great to meet you!
Wes, you are a beast and an inspiration! Congratulations!!!
Thank you so much 😀
Congratulations Wes - you did it again! 1000 mile club is so amazing. So nice to meet you and Leah after the last finisher and thanks for the picture. One question - do you think maybe you felt more fatigued because of the pre-Coco races that you did or was it more altitude related? Can’t wait for your compilation video of the race.
It was awesome to meet you Sue! And thank you of the question for the next episode!
Nice job,Wes! Look forward to the video and possibly catching up when you feel rested. Cheers, again!! Amazing work!
Thanks Mike!
I was cheering you on during the livestream and missed your finish by about 30 minutes. Great job out there despite the struggles. Hope you recover well and I can't wait to watch the full Cocodona video!
Thank you Chad! 🙌🏼
Way to go Wes! It was fun to follow the journey!
Thank you for following along!
Congratulations on 1000 miles of Cocodona!!!
Thank you!
Wes - Great effort and as always I look forward to your video from the race, thanks for sharing your adventures with us
Thank you! 🙌🏼
Congratulations! Hope your recovery is enjoyable and reflective 🫡
Thank you!
Congratulations!!! I have been following your training Vlog and watched alot of the live stream for this race. Thank you for sharing your adventurers and your knowledge.
Thanks for watching and following the run!
Congratulations on the finish and 1000 mile club. Enjoyed watching the live stream and following your tracker.
Thank you for following along! 🙌🏼
Good stuff! Congratulations and happy recovery. Yes, that smoke was brutal.
I’m still clearing my throat a week later.
Yeah!! Congratulations Wes!!! 🥳🥳 I followed you on Instagram and Cocodona's site live tracking day by day! 🥳👍🏻 Can't wait to see the video! 🤟😁 But now take a good, very good rest!! Congratulations again! A big hug from Italy! 💪🏻🇮🇹
Thank you!!
Awesome job Wes! You are AMAZING. Your videos helped me take the next step to go "beyond 50K". So bummed I didn't get a chance to meet you in Flagstaff but maybe I'll run into you on the WA trails someday...
Thank you Chris!
Thanks!
Thank you for this!!! ❤️
Massive congrats, Wes! Sleep well
Thank you!
Absolute beast! I'm curious if you have taken advantage of a nice humid shower or breathing treatments (nebulizer) to help open up those airways? Hydration is always a MUST when you have chest congestion, as you know. Of course, I'm a nurse and I used to be a wound care nurse, so I'd definitely be interested in the healing process of your feet. Once again, you are amazing, Wes.
Thank you of the question for the next episode!
First and Foremost Congratulations !!!! You are such an inspiration to me. I started walking long distances as a form of losing weight after seeing your videos. Thank you for being so real and really showing all the aspects of ultrarunning. The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. In your video, you said that there was a section that was very cold and you didn't think it was a good idea to lay down and get a small nap, why is that?
Thank you of the question for the next episode!
Well done!
Thank you!
Congrats and way to push to the finish
Thank you! 🙌🏼
Big time achievement, thanks for letting us all tag along! I know you have crew along the way, but are there runners that can manage the 250 mile logistics solo?? Rest easy!
Thank you of the question for the next episode!
Congrats bud, 1000 miles of perseverance! (I feel you throat, mine is only just now better after almost a week past finishing)
It takes so long to get back to normal! 🙌🏼
Congratulations! I have enjoyed your training coverage. The information has been helpful and interesting. Rest up and get back to feeling normal:)
Thank you Leigh!
Congratulations, Wes, on a great race, and on 1000 miles! You are an inspiration. It was good to meet you on the trail. What do you do mentally to keep moving during one of the long races?
Hi Gary!
For the most part I keep moving because there is no other option. Forward progress is how I'm getting to the finish! I try to keep my pace comfortable, for the first couple days of Cocodona I found running to be very difficult, but I could hike and shuffle and keep a decent pace.
Congratulations to another completed Cocodona 250! I noticed that it was a slower run. Tried to cheer you on outside of Ft. Tuthill, when I started the Eldencrest run, but the changed course let me miss you.
I hope Elden Crest went well for you!
At my age (73) I am not breaking records any more but I finished 4 hours faster than last year, so yes, it went very well. Thinking about Sedona Canyons for 2025. Hope to run into you then.
Congratulations!! It was super fun watching you and others on the tracker. I was glued all week to the livestream! My friend Mary was volunteering at Munds with your parents! Small world! Seen you diverge off the route a couple times. Can you tell what happened or was it just the tracker? Rest up!
Thank you of the question for the next episode!
🎉🎉🎉
🙌🏼
Good job
Thank you!
Congrats on your finish and joining the 1k mile Cocodona club! You deserve all that rest and yummy food. Was cheering you on watching the live stream all week. Cannot wait to hear more about your adventure. Enjoy that R&R!!
Thank you for the encouragement!
Hi Wes. I was trying to be a member of your channel but I can’t find where to save my life. Thank you
I included this question in this week’s video, thank you! I’ll also paste the link here… czcams.com/channels/AbGmxSxIw-JS9RumJkKQhw.htmljoin
Thank you!
FANTASTIC...great stuff Wes...well done...very much looking forward to your Cocodona Video...keep on keeping on...
Thank you Philip!
Great job! Way to keep going! So analogous of life!!!! 🙌🏻😊 very excited for you Wes!
Truly! One of the things I love about this distance is that there’s time to bounce back if you have a bad day. Many runners saw me struggle on Day 1, but then later be much more alive.
Was awesome seeing you at the start of the 125 Wes! Hope you had an amazing race.
Mine was good, it was tough. I hope yours went well too!
Congratulations, Wes!
Thank you! 🙌🏼
Thanks for sharing how it went. Enjoyed following your progress via your tracker and cheering you on virtually as you approached the finish line. Enjoy your well-earned rest and looking forward to the video!
Thank you for the encouragement!
I followed the race via the Mountain Outpost live stream and got to see you finish (you had a big smile by the way). Congratulations!
Thank you for watching and cheering me on!
Sounds like you had quite a challenge. Congratulations on finishing! The hard effort is etched into your face and voice. It’s amazing what the body can do and then recover from. I hope your recovery goes well.
Thank you!
Congrats Wes on making the 1,000 club! Great recap. Followed you and a couple others all week on the live stream (Go 155!). Looking forward to your full video. Can you elaborate more the arm tattoos and do you plan one for this year? You going back in 2025?
Thank you of the question for the next episode!
Great job pushing thru the struggles of that one Wes! 4 finishes at Cocodona is awesome! I was following all week on the tracker and live feed. Well done man! Enjoy your recovery! I imagine you'll address this at some point, but in case not, what are your initial thoughts of racing Cocodona 250 again?
Thank you of the question for the next episode!
Awesome run! Glad you got to run with Cameron.
Yeah, we had a great time together!
I had reached out while you were busy this last week, but I'd really like to hear the crew's week leading into the race and how their experience was during.
Thank you of the question for the next episode! If you have specific questions about crewing maybe we can make a dedicated video with Leah on the topic.
Congratulations Wes👏👏💪 how long does it take you to recover from a 250mile race.
Thank you of the question for the next episode!
Congratulations, Wes! I hope your body is recovering well. Do you include lab/blood testing and other similar protocols in your recovery regime prior to getting back to training for the rest of your calendar?
Hi Kathleen! Thank you of the question for the next episode!
Well done Wes on your 4th Cocodona! During the race, what was your sleep strategy? And did you have a sleep plan?
Thank you of the question for the next episode!
Hi, Wes! I’m fairly new to 200+ milers, but wanted your opinion on whether it’s reasonable for forest services to schedule prescribed fires on days where a big event like Cocodona is running through their area. The air quality is definitely a concern, but more importantly, what if the fire gets out of control. I don’t know much on how this is decided, but it seems super unsafe for a lot of reasons.
Thank you of the question for the next episode!
Nice...
So nice!
Congratulations 👏👏 what's next on your list?
Next up is the Canadian Death Race in August. www.sinistersports.ca/deathrace/
1000 miler! 🎉
Not what I expected when I first ran Cocodona in 2021! 😂
Question. What are the treats of choice in that calendar view?
Not sure I answered your question very well. I'm eating all kinds of things, nothing in particular. I have enjoyed some burgers and pizza, I like those things. And Leah has made me breakfast a couple mornings which was really nice of her. I should probably be eating more, but we don't have that much food in the house.
Is it hard to imagine the winner completing the race in almost half as much time as you?
Thank you of the question for the next episode!
In June I am running my first 24 hour race. It's on a 3 mile circuit of flat asphalt so it won't have the technicality or elevation gain difficulty of ultras on trails. What pieces of advice would you have for training leading up to this event? Is it worth sacrificing my sleeping routine to be able to practice running at night? The longest event I have done prior to this was a 27 mile 6600ft vert gain self-supported trail run.
Thank you of the question for the next episode!
What treadmill do you have? I need to get a good treadmill and the current option I'm looking at is the NordicTrack 1750 Commercial
Thank you of the question for the next episode!
Do you experience some slight lows mentally after completing such a large distance and the training/experience is over? I feel like I have completed something grand but I also feel off mentally, I know this is common but I was wondering how you deal with it? Thanks Wes.
Thank you of the question for the next episode!
Congrats Wes, did you lose much weight? Looks like it
Thank you of the question for the next episode!
