the sulli and jonghyun situations really piss me off because i wasn’t into kpop when they passed. i remember when jonghyun passed, a girl in my choir class talked about it and told people to take care of themselves. it’s just really messed up that sm failed them and the public failed them as well. i didn’t know that sulli was hospitalized for a VERY obvious reason and no one at the company saw it as a blessing to freaking HELP HER. so many people would wish they had another chance to save someone or anything, but sm just denied as usual and now she’s gone. i never understood why people would leave such disgusting comments under her social media for what? nothing. god forbid a girl has a life and isn’t the stereotypical woman so many people want her to be when she’s just like any of us to be normal. it’s honestly why i’ve given up on sm ever saying anything when their artists are under fire. in fact, seunghan STILL has no updates from the company on if he’s still in riize or not and i doubt they ever will make one. i love the artists under the company, but the company itself is god awful and deserves none of the talents they have there.

I hate SM and they should take some (not all) of the responsibility for Sulli, but Jonghyun had depression and seasonal affective disorder since childhood and it’s impossible to know what would have happened if he wasn’t an idol. He also took a lot of risks by speaking out on issues most idols don’t dare to and probably received more hate for that. Sulli received the most hate for being feminist because netizens hate women. BTS got praised for being feminist but Irene was shamed. Sexism is a real problem. Tangent aside, I really don’t think what happened with Jonghyun is much of SM’s fault it could just be maybe he wasn’t cut out to be famous. Look at Kurt Cobain, he loved music and being in the band but wasn’t cut out for the publicity. But I’m sure he had preexisting issues.

SM forcing renjun to issue an apology for the sasaeng who “accidentally” had his number saved and “accidentally” called him a day after the incident happened, but ignoring the years worth of harassment he’s faced is actually insane. BUT SM HAS ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THIS.
Which is why it is always so strange to me how many older kpop fans talked about SM under LSM like they were the best kpop has ever seen.
Other than their infamous SLAVE CONTRACTS, which destroyed idols financially and socially for leaving, making it IMPOSSIBLE for idols to leave, VICTIM BLAMING is also SM’s modus operandi.
Everything wrong with kpop and its bad reputation around the world can be traced back to the birth of kpop under SM and Lee Soo Man.

In an attempt to get away, they crashed and Heechul has a permanent knee injury that will continously get worse for the rest of his life.
This and so many other incidents just show how sm never have and never will care about their idols. It's a company created for one thing and one thing only. Money. it's also like... I have BEEN at the SM building. You can go in, there's a cafe and a giftshop, all that jazz. And I got confused and turned around while I was there cause I wasn't sure where the cafe is, so I took a round trip in the elevator. The top floors are not an option to anyone who doesn't have a keycard, which is good, yay.
But you can go to the parking garage. 6 levels of it.
I hope that there are more levels you CAN'T go to that are where the artists park and I wasn't trying to stalk anyone so I didn't check, but... I know they film down there often. Kai filmed vlogs in that garage. If this is the place that the idols park why can I go there? why is the parking garage open to the public period? IDK it worries me.
Also sorry you got me off on my anti SM rant too, but I make reaction videos, right?
And OBVIOUSLY I get copyright claimed, a lot, but I had never been blocked by SM, ever.
Until I made a RIIZE reaction in which I talked about how I was boycotting the comeback and not buying the album because of Seunghan.
They fully were going to copyright strike me.
And it's just very questionable how they never cared until I criticized them. How dare I care about an idols mental and physical health, especially an idol who did nothing wrong. Literally nothing. Even his alleged offenses aren't offenses. Having a girlfriend predebut like oooh he has a life how horrible.
I fucking hate SM man. I hate them
Their statement about Jessica sounds like the KBS people were angry about the rumors and SM wanted people to stop so they could keep having good relationships with them.
This is why to this day I don't put much stock in the Lucas situation. Everyone saying "SM not saying anything is proof enough" clearly knows nothing about SM.
Sm operates on this assumption that having these crazy sasaengs is gonna make their groups seem more desirable. Like that is a rumor that has been going around for a long time and I fully believe it. the reason they do nothing is cause the sasaengs insane actions make headlines and SM allegedly thinks this makes more people believe the idols are someone special because if people do all this insane shit in pursuit of them, they HAVE to be extraordinary.
It is BULLSHIT. THey don't give two fucks about anyone's mental health either. Like I am a Jonghyun ult, do not get me started on talking about the way SM handles mental health. Fuck them.

    VERY LONG RANT AHEAD
Most of the groups I like are SM groups (aespa, NCT, Red Velvet, EXO, SNSD, and SHINee) but my ult group is NCT and my ult bias is Haechan and I remember there was a month or two (can’t remember when, but I think it was last year) where his sasaengs were at their worst. Like for a good month or two, every single day, we would get videos of sasaengs calling him. Like the sasaengs would post videos of them calling him and they were always so proud of it, even if he would hang up in their face or if he was obviously mad. During that time, his Instagram lives streams would just cut off in the middle (sometimes multiple times) due to people calling his phone. This was so bad to the point where he had to keep asking the viewers to stop calling him almost every live. Then there was the whole thing of SM releasing a statement about a sasaeng breaking into his home (while he AND his family was there). And they released this statement MONTHS after the incident which like
you’re a bit late???? They released it saying that from now on they’re gonna protect NCT against sasaengs and in hindsight, that was a fucking lie 😭 There was also this one Instagram live (from maybe 2-3 years ago?) where he talked about how uncomfortable he and his members were bcuz sasaengs would constantly lurk around their dorms and just wait for them. Like these NCT sasaengs have been a problem for so long, and the fact that Haechan and Renjun (and I’m sure other members as well, but I just can’t remember off the top of my head) have to be the ones to confront these sasaengs and BEG them to stop, while SM sits back and does nothing is so telling.
And then beyond the sasaeng issue, SM neglects Haechan’s physical health so badly. Like he’s in two groups full time (with Mark), and he went on hiatus during their tour all of a sudden. We were told at the time that it was just heart palpitations. But then during a live stream this year, he talked about the hiatus and the way he explained his health issues was worse than just heart palpitations. Like he was scared for his own health. SM completely downplayed his health issues (which he explained was caused by burnout/overexertion), probably because they didn’t want to be blamed for his health issues. He literally filmed TWO music videos while we was in this condition. I hate SM so much fr
I don’t wanna be the type of person who makes everything about their bias when their bias was never mentioned but since we’re on the topic of NCT, sasaengs, and SM’s mistreatment of their idols, I just had to let everything I’ve been thinking about this topic out 😭 I bet every single Haechan stan could talk about this topic for hours

Idk why. the only thing that makes me calm down aside from not being in fandom online is that he does want to come back.
regarding the most recent incident where he shared “an innocent civilian”’s number, was it the best way to address the issue? No. And it should not have reached the point where someone feels that was the only way to do so. What PISSED ME TF is in sm’s statement that “they should have managed[renjun] better”. It just seemed like they’re saying they will control him more.
I think part of why companies don’t take these people to court is that the stalkers/harassers can be minors and are protected by law. People take advantage of that. I’m a long time kpop fan too and it’s so frustrating.

i hate that he’s getting hate for speaking up for himself when no one else is doing it for him. my thing is that he has seemingly gotten so paranoid, as any person would with being stalked for so long, that he felt the need to call these people out, even knowing what the consequences could be, he still did it, and then SM almost immediately shuts him down when they could have prevented all of this by implementing better security for their idols and by actually punishing people who are actively stalking their idols.
about the sasaengs being minors thing: South Korea has strengthened their laws against stalkers, especially those who’ve done it for long periods of time, but companies don’t take advantage of this which is so confusing. and what’s even more confusing is seeing South Korean lawyers be confused about why companies don’t bring legal action to the stalkers. about the people being minors, me personally, i think that if they don’t want to bring legal action against the sasaengs because of their age, it could be civil action instead of legal (since the sasaengs clearly have money), or something as simple as banning the sasaeng from events. however SM doesn’t even do that, so đŸ€·â€â™€ïž

I’m pretty new to kpop (I’ve been only been here for 3 years) and a some of my favorite groups are SM groups. EXO, Aespa, NCT, and now RIIZE. While I don’t know a lot of the history for groups like EXO and Shinee, I felt more connected to NCT and RIIZE, (especially the latter since I had been watching them a month or so before debut) and as it went on, the more I learned about them, the more I learned about SM and their horrible ways.
I learned about NCT and the whole Lucas-ssaseng scandal (and no, I’m not an anti, I don’t believe liars.) I had wondered why SM didn’t do anything to protect him, or even defend him to the public if he worked for their company. Two years later and we *still* don’t have a “clear answer” to what happened. He FINALLY came back in April of 2024 after an almost 3 year sentence for lies because he exposed some ssasengs.
And now there’s RIIZE, who I’ve been watching for the last few months. I got to watch in real time all the crap that’s happening to Seunghan. After Talk Saxy released and (it hadn’t even been a month yet, so they were still doing promotions) SM put him on an “indefinite hiatus”, words any SM vet know all too well. He’s spent more time on hiatus than he has with the group (their debut anniversary is September 4th mind you), and it was for the stupidest things. People demand for answers, and though we see him in public from time to time, we don’t have a clear answer as to what’s going on with him.
I really don’t want Renjun to end up in the sme basement just for protecting himself. I wish all the artists could come together and sue the company and get some kind of justice, but I know it won’t happen.

them being so unclear about the Lucas situation is so weird to me, like they could’ve just had him sit down and talk about things from his side with receipts instead of a almost vlog like, multi part thing that felt super produced and insincere at times. it’s could’ve been a thing where he can say the things he didn’t do, and if he is guilty of something, have him outright say what he did do, like either way they’re gonna lose some fans, might as well come out with the truth.
the Riize situation pisses me off so bad because they’re punishing him for something so natural, that happened BEFORE debut, and then in most of the lives used as proof of his relationship there were 4 average viewers, i’m sure they can figure out who was watching.
there are so many things that they do that are so illogical that i can’t even try to understand where they’re coming from, especially from a business standpoint.

With Lucas's situation, SM clearly didn't defend him because they couldn't. Their management is garbage, but they have cleared the names of plenty of their idols in the past (where they could - obviously in situations where the idol was guilty of the accusations, like Irene, they legally cannot defend them).
Ultimately, Lucas's case is a clear-cut example of SM desperately wanting to keep him on as an idol (especially as he was one of NCT biggest money-makers and stan attractors) but because they can't clear his name (not them actively choosing not to) they basically tried to soft-launch him several times to see the general reception/attitudes towards him and also realised they couldn't bring him back as part of WayV since his popularity and reputation is in the ground in China lol. He's arguably one of the best treated SM idols - they literally gave this man a solo before NUMEROUS other NCT idols who are objectively more deserving (longer-served and more talented) simply because they realised they were unable to bring him back to WayV/NCT and refuse to get rid of him.

That is the reason Hangeng from SJ, aka the first ever foreign kpop idol, left the group
A couple of months back he did an interview in china talking about that once again
He literally said he got more money as a trainee than as an idol
and when the lawsuit was bought on, there were talks about the company not giving him proper rest after some pretty serious health condition, and his family being basically ostracized when they went to see him.
I'll not blame SM (much) for the fact he couldn't appear on music shows at the beginning, cause that was the tv channels responsibility on the most part, and it shows the huge systemic problem the industry had at the time. HOWEVER, if you are gonna train and debut a foreign member, and you ARE the biggest kpop company in the game, I do believe they should have lobbied for that to happen before they had to ostracize Hangeng like that.

SM's long history of mistreatment and mismanagement is why I've had beef with them for years. TVXQ, BoA, and SNSD were some of the artists that got me into kpop, and even back then they dealt with unimaginable levels of foolishness. SM lets their sasaengs and anti-fans get away with murder because SM relies on them and their parasocial relationships with the artists to help keep up momentum - all press is good press in their eyes, even if it puts their artists in danger.

i find it funny that lee soo man went out of his way to choose onew for his company and he still left in terms of solo activities along with taemin LMAO keep in mind taemin was one of the few people who passed the saturday auditions for sm where it's almost impossible to pass and then went on to literally grow up to be one of the most iconic kpop artists today, but guess what he up and left after the contract expired too
and im still so mad about what they did with super m, in this case lack thereof, there are so many fans including myself waiting for a comeback or at least some official crumbs of the group after four years of radio silence, but no, they lied abt a comeback in 2023 and we're still waiting, the only thing we've had so far was last year's kcon and they didn't even perform together, and knowing what happened with lucas (don't get me started on that because it was such a mess) i doubt we're going to get anything from them in a long time, sm is fumbling so bad and HAS been and its so frustrating esp because almost all my favorite groups come from that company

Well, Lee Soo Man was kicked and no longer works in SM. Hybe bought back all his assets. And Hybe politics seems to actively destroy Kpop creative minds (they kicked Zico out of KOZ, his own label, which makes ZERO sense)
Honestly I think as bad as management is, LSM was the creative genius that made it work, so hearing a lot of idols are leaving so soon after LSM left makes sense. They were loyal to him, not SM. And SuperM was LSM's project that's why it was dropped right after he was kicked, then new management sent Kai to the army. Kai had no idea they planned his enlistment so soon, he had comebacks planned and it surely included SuperM (heck considering the timing, there must be a SuperM album and MV entirely produced and sleeping somewhere).

It's always cool to discover a new kpop commentary channel. If I can give constructive criticism, I just think the game background isn't that interesting to watch in my opinion. Maybe add more screenshots of what you're talking about, it can be hard to follow what you're talking about without any visuals other than the game to figure out what happens in the story. Also, don't get me wrong I find it great to have your non-english interventions too! But you don't always translate you say so sometimes we don't know what you mean at all. Overall, a bit more rhythm with a better background related to your comment would be perfect. I know it's never easy to read stuff like this, but knows that I really want you to improve in a good way because your content as a base is very solid.

@@duckypato Ok I understand. I wish you a quick recovery for your hand! About your video background, yeah fancams would be too risky. Maybe more photos of the different people involved then? Photocards or the big subway and building advertisements? Public fan calls and fansign events? Or if it's legal to show, a part of some Weverse and old Vlive streams would be a nice integration too. In any case, take your time. Improvement will come with practice. You have my full support!
