    WRC is the championship’s headline category and the spectacular new-era World Rally Cars are driven by superstars such as Sébastien Ogier, Sébastien Loeb, Thierry Neuville, and Ott Tänak.
    Three manufacturers compete for drivers, co-drivers, and manufacturers’ world titles across all championship rounds. All rallies count towards the final standings.
    Look out for: Ford Fiesta, Hyundai i20, Toyota Yaris.

      @bigbuckoramma Před rokem +5

      @@sportcubemoments This statement is factually incorrect.
      The older WR Car regulations under FIA Appendix J where designed around the Group-A regulations. The entire concept of the WR Car was to allow for manufacturers who did not possess, nor want to possess, a "Homologation Special" like a EVO, or an STi, or Escort Cosworth, to take and modify their 2WD road car to an equivalent spec of a Group-A car, by allowing a "Kit Spec" that would include uprating the engine to a 2.0L capacity. Take for example the Peugeot 206. It came from the factory with either a 1.,6L or 1.8L engine. The WR Car rules allowed them to use a motorsport homologated engine from another Peugeot, in this case the "XU7" motorsport engine, that had its roots going all the way back to the old Group-B 205 T16.
      Later on, due to lack of interest in the B segment cars from manufacturers (like the Xsara, the Corolla, the Focus, etc.) the FIA allowed the WR Car class to adopt similar mechanical rules to that of the Super 2000 class. Which were C Segment compact cars (like the Yaris and the Fiesta), and had been originally developed as an alternative to Group-N, which was production class rallying. Obviously this was in the end of the era, where EVO's and STI's were nearing the end of manufacturing and were hard to find. So Super 2000 allowed for a C Segment compact, much like the WR Car rules, to have a Naturally Asperated 2.0L engine added to it, and a basic mechanical 6 speed sequential transmission with AWD from Sadev, giving them a performance equivalency of a Group-N car. Eventually Super 2000 became a class all its own. (This is not to be confused with the F2 FWD Kit Cars of the 90's, those are totally different)
      When the WRC adopted the Super 2000 Kit Car regulations for the WR Cars, they allowed them to move to a 1.6L Turbo Charged engine. As the Turbo Charged cars where a staple of the WRC, and that they must have a distinction above and beyond a typical Super 2000 car. But this also made it very easy for many Super 2000 cars to be upgraded to a Rally 2 spec for privateer use. As they are still done to this day.
      The current crop of WR Cars, still in keeping wit the Super 2000 regulations, adopted a similar set of technical regulations to those used inside of WTCC for their Touring Cars. This means a larger restrictor, and higher RPM allowance, significantly increasing the Horse Power, and a significant amount of aerodynamic allowances, including the wide fender arches and track width, as well as a larger front splitter, rear diffuser, and massive multi element rear wing, and a whole host of aerodynamic "free" zones along the length of the car. These are the current regulations that are used for Rally 1, with the added Hybrid systems unit in the middle of the car.

    • @sportcubemoments

      These cars have a custom 'space frame' that supports all the components

    • @bigbuckoramma
      @bigbuckoramma Před rokem +1

      The current WRC Cars still have the stock Unibody intact. But it is heavily seam welded, and gusseted. Inside the unibody, there is an integral tubular space frame. This space frame houses all of the components of the car, from the drivetrain and engine, to the suspension pickup points, and everything in between. The car is largely supported by this spaceframe, with the Unibody acting as a stressed member to help strengthen it. You can see how these two systems are integrated, by looking at photos of a current generation WRC car in production.
      fordauthority.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/M-Sport-Ford-Fiesta-Rally3-Exterior-002-Components.png
      www.autocar.co.uk/sites/autocar.co.uk/files/images/car-reviews/first-drives/legacy/m-sport-web-666.jpg
      In both of these shots you can clearly see the unibody structure, and how the space frame all ties in.
      These cars are still largely Unibody construction, and are not a full silhouette style "body panel over space frame" like some older GT cars, or something like a Trophy Truck.

    Dude made this video in late 2021 and still wouldnt care enough to do some research and talk about the fact that for 2022 season and onwards the cars wouldnt have a active center diff and they would lose the 6 speed gearbox for a 5 speed mechanical sequential to keep the speeds down and the cars were going hybrid. All the yapping in this video but still not rellevant anymore

    I didn't click on a "how to build..." video to find out how fast cars go or if they all use the same engine. That would be a "what is..." video. Thanks for wasting my time with useless fluff.

    This guy clearly doesn’t know anything about rally or have any legitimate interest or inside knowledge about it. Just random facts picked from different web pages about different racing series from different years. None of this is reliable information and should not be trusted.

      Road car Yaris have 3 cylinders, but for standard they need to have 4 cylinders 1.6 liters in rally

    You're pretty obviously reading off the World Rally Car article off of Wikipedia, with a few minor changes. Very lazy scripting. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Rally_Car
