  • It’s June 2015 and Nancy and I have returned to Lake Skaneateles, rain or shine the most beautiful body of water in the world, where just about everyone and everything is nice. Even the insects that occasionally swarm about your head are neighborly and never bite. We had a marvelous time exploring the region, meeting new people and having many adventures. And miraculously, I managed to stay out of the Auburn Correctional Facility!

Ah, my hometown of 51 years. Miss it so much. Thanks for this. Sometimes I forget that I lived in a place and had the most beautiful lake in the world in my front yard. Sometimes my son would call and ask. " Is the lake calm today? I was going to bring the boat out." I would sometimes say....." I don't know, I haven't looked yet today!" Gosh, if I only had those days back. How could I have not looked at it every chance I got? You truly do not know what you've got til it's gone........

    Another John Thornton MASTERPIECE.
Fun to see "my neighborhood" though your eyes. You are an artist and have pieced together another nice hometown quilt. Thanks for sharing.

Johnny boy, just an amazing and amazingly good hearted movie! Wonderful! I wish they'd put it on the PBS affiliate in the finger lakes region. I can't wait to see the movie about your artist friend whose work, it would appear, was burned by an arsonist?

I learned of "Return to Skaneateles, Paradise at the Finger Lakes" from Walter. Yes, the same Walter you feature in your movie.. or is it a documentary... or maybe travelog? Whatever it is, it is fantastic. Very entertaining, extremely interesting and educational. Perhaps some day I'll have the pleasure of joining you, Nancy and Walter at Connie's Deli for a Enchilada with Molé Sauce, one of my personal favorites.

Thank you for creating another video about Skaneateles, the town where I grew up (I graduated SCS in 1980), and the surrounding area! Your voice and your delivery of the narration on your videos really heightens the humor in them. I pronounce Skaneateles "SKANNY", not skinny, which I guess makes me an old timer. When I was in elementary school, a couple of cruel schoolkids would occasionally call me "Skinny Alice", which I hated, so maybe your theory that younger people say "Skinny" and adults say "Skanny" is correct. Regardless of the pronunciation, your videos make me want to go back to the area more often for visits. Thank you again, and keep them coming. My best to you and Nancy! I've shared your work on my facebook page.

I hope you continue to create these videos. I've shared this one with my Mom (a native to Skaneateles), her husband, my husband and my dad. Can you tell how much I loved it? :)

Enjoyed Part II - I hope you will visit the John Barrows Gallery in Skaneateles next time you are here. It's quite a treasure in the back of the library. PS the lake doesn't warm up until July.
