  • When Louis Daguerre invented the first photographic process in 1839, it was as if an earthquake shook the foundations of the art world. Upon seeing a daguerreotype, The British painter Joseph Turner allegedly said, "This is the end of Art. I am glad I have had my day."
But of course, Turner was wrong, and representational painting has never gone away. So how have painters used this technology?

How AI will evolve and how artists will respond will be the new one to watch.

Good video topic. I feel less guilty now painting and composing paintings from photos knowing that some of the greatest painters also utilized photos.
Thank you for taking the time to do this

You are more than welcome. I do believe that artists should see it as a tool rather than an image that just needs to be copied.

Great new discussion on an old subject. You should maybe explore a follow up to this discussing the digital side of painting or actual digital painting. Maybe not AI per se but people using painting software to explore new ideas/directions in 2 dimensional art using photography as a base.

    Well done, John!
I do dislike seeing a well-done painting copying a poor photo.
Use a photo as a reference, like the landscape painter would use a sketch scrawed out onsite as a reference.
