  • Thanks to Heaven Hill Distillery for inviting us to their Old Fitzgerald Unlocked event and sharing their new 13 year Bourbon with us! It's Bottled-in-Bond, so it's 100 proof obviously, and was distilled in 1999, the year Heaven Hill bought the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky. In fact, this is the first wheated distillate made under the ownership of Heaven Hill at Bernheim. This wheated Bourbon sells for a suggested price of $249.99.
Welcome back to "Short and Sweet", where the reviews are (usually) short, and it's very sweet of those who have shared their whiskey with us.

Sounds great but a quick search and that goes for $1,999.00 if you can find it. Congrats on getting to taste it and enjoy.

Sounds great. I inherited my grandfather's 1965 Old Fitzgerald BiB Old Iron Sides decanter edition, and it's the best sip I've ever had!

Been in Ky this whole week, visiting our UK student, stalking Bardstown for the daily morning drop at HeavenHill in hopes of a WHH17… alas, two skunks (no drop) and grenades the other two.
We had a hotel in Bardstown on Friday night and they serendipitously announced the OF13SSV. They cancelled our hotel reservation and we had to regroup and go back to Lex for Keeneland, UK/Vols… completely shot and wanted to sleep out on line. Just too old and tired for that…
My son, like a champ, went to Bardstown, charged me $100 for his time and muled me a bottle. ❤

How do the OF19 or OF17 compare? I remember 19 finishing in top 10 of 2022😀

I had the VVS 13 yr at the event as well and it was great. I was surprised at the sweetness of it in comparison to the VVS 14 year released in 2018. I find that the Anderson Club 15s have more of the vintage funk and even with the lower 86 proof they seem to have more oak presence.

Maybe someday I’ll get to taste the funk.

meh, won't bother paying msrp (or ridiculous markups) as someone mentioned in the comment: $1,999.00. Guess people still pay this much during inflation. Irony.
too tired of bourbon "hunting". i'm done.

@@Ona1000 Anything above 200-300 is not worth. Unless there is a very special occasion (where I need to brag I have this special bottle so you drinking it is special.) I know how much it costs to make these bottles of brown juice. Knowing that, I just can’t pay that much. Pure madness to chase highly allocated while paying insane amount of dollars hairs.

  • @bryanmacke

I gotta wonder exactly how it was stored for 12 years. There had to have been some sort of effect that had on the juice. Even if it was extremely air tight with minimal head space, I still wonder if something happens to it! Just like old dusties. I'm sure there's some scientific study that could be done, but how does that play out on the palate?? It seems almost impossible to know for sure

I find it hard to believe over 10 years in a stainless steel vat has zero, I mean zero, effect on the end product. Maybe I’m just cynical about a bottle I will neverrrr see.
