    Old Forester does in fact distill 25% or so of their output there. They also build their barrels and toast and char them in that location. They also have a heat recycled warehouse there.

    Great video! Pappy 15 is a special experience. Really enjoy michters 10 year bourbon & rye. Eh Taylor barrel proof is a favorite neat or in an old fashioned. Also who doesn’t like some regular buffalo trace & knob creek 12 year. Stagg jr is a favorite also

    Great video. Brought me back to our epic trip in Dec. We hit 17 in 5 days. Didn't tour all, and tried to do different experiences. For instance I really geeked out at Castle & Key, but only walked around. Another fantastic experience is Whiskey Thief where you you get to thief your own bottle(s). I guess Pursuit United is doing the something similar now. We did Bourbon Trivia at Bullit( I won about a $100 gift bag). Woodford reserve had a tasting paired with different snacks. We did the Speakeasy at Evan Williams. BBC thief tour is great. Have done it 2x now. Glenns Creek we got to watch them working as we were tasting. Had some great pours at Evergreen as well (Stagg Jr & WR double double bottle kill). Their store pick Nashville Barrel Co is phenomenal.

    Fun Fun! We did some of the trail just as the pandemic was fading but froze in late winter also. Some closed, so will have to go back when its warm! Yeah, you can't do it all but will enjoy most places. Thanks for sharing and taking us along! Cheers!

    As a KY boy I can say this is a great video and the Evan Williams Experience has liquid gold on their menu! Wow! Next time you go let me know b/c you missed some of the best stops on the tour. 4Roses, Castle and Key, Wild Turkey, the OMNI Speakeasy, and downtown Lexington.

    If you enjoy the lower proof wheated bourbons like myself. Try the Mitchner’s single barrel 10year, impossible to find but amazing! Maybe you can find an affordable pour of it before you buy, but trust me you’ll love it! Great video, heading to Louisville in two weeks so this was a big help.

      If you are in Louisville be sure to hit the OMNI Speakeasy, Rabbit Hole Distillery, Hell or Highwater bar, and the Old Seelbach Bar. If you are downtown you can't pass those up.

  • @idoraparkbill
    @idoraparkbill Před 4 měsíci +2

    Nice job on this one. I have a barrel aging at makers mark. About 2 more years then I get to dip personalized bottles from it. Old Forester 1910 and 1920 are regulars in my selection at home. You should try Rabbit Hole Dareringer and also wild turkey Kentucky spirit. I also love my scotch. If you ever go to the Brown Derby at Disney Hollywood studios they have a Macallan flight for $90 which is a pour of 15,18, and 25 year. If you are in the Williamsburg VA area check out eight shires distillery, they have a three year bourbon made with Indian corn similar to what they were distilling in colonial times.

    I've been to Kentucky many times and stopped at all the distilleries. You hit some great spots (there are tons of others). Wheated bourbons are my favorite as well. You should do what you can to get Weller Antique 107 (Red Bottle). That is an outstanding bourbon that is quite a bit better than Weller Special Reserve. Great Video!!

    If you're not on the website at 10 am Eastern time on a Wednesday when they release the next week of tours, you're not getting a Buffalo Trace tour reservation. I had to pay for the other distillery tours, but never had a problem getting a tour on the day I wanted, and planned 3 months ahead.

    Note: the moxy hotel lobby pour prices are nowhere near “reasonable”. 35 bucks for an EH Taylor pour is pure robbery lol that is a 45 dollar bottle. If you want reasonable pour prices, liquor stores will always be the way to go in KY. cheers friends

      $45 in Louisville but sadly not the rest of the country. Moved out of Lexington to Scottsdale then to Chattanooga and a bottle goes for over $100 nearly everywhere. Crazy!

    • @IntheLoopPodcast

      We did it January… the week before and first day we were there it was in the 50s, rest of the trip it was in the 20s. So total roll of the dice. On the positive it’s easier to get reservations and tours as it isn’t really crowded at all. Another pro for early winter is lots of winter cocktails and some distillery decorate for holidays

    How much can I expect to spend for a trip like that ?

    • @IntheLoopPodcast
      @IntheLoopPodcast  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Depends… on one hand it can be done cheap. Buffalo Trace tours + samples are free, most distilleries offer free samples and are free to explore. Lots of hotel options give you flexible for cheap hotels. It gets expensive if you want to try fancy pours or buy distillery exclusive bottles. But without doing those two it can be a very cost friendly trip. If you planned $25 bucks per distillery per person that probably covers a pour or two if it isn’t free.

    Evergreens prices are no longer that good. Two years ago the 15 year pappy was 30 an ounce! The 10 year van winkle was 18 an ounce! Everything has almost doubled or tripled in a short period of time
