As campy as this movie might be, his saying "Hi, I'm Chucky, wanna play?" right after the reveal that the batteries were never installed was genuinely creepy.
I was given a talking doll as a kid (it said "feed me mama", and the night I first got it, it kept going off by itself, so my parents took out the batteries so I could sleep... But it kept doing it. So serious. My family tells this story to this day. Very creepy
So "campy" movies cannot be creepy
Give a man a fire and he's warm an evening. Set him on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.
But don't feel put out if it happens to you - you won't be.
Come on baby light my fire,Tryin to set the night on fireaaaaaaa.......
All 3 minutes of it
Words of wisdom.
Give a man voodoo spells, he transfers his soul into a doll in a toy store........
..........that blows up from a lightning storm after the spell is said and done.
Andy's mom once had to deal with time travelers who were trying to prevent the extinction of humpback whales. You'd think she'd be a bit more open-minded.
People who say chucky is too small to hurt anyone clearly have never stepped on a Lego
Pres1dentN1xon2 also voodoo magic
Generic comment to increase engagement statistics.
Have you ever stepped on a plastic warhammer sprue?
Stepping on a Lego is nothing compared to anything chucky does in the movie, he is small, and Legos are even smaller, but if you got stabbed, hit with a baseball bat, and EXPLODED, and have your limbs broken from a voodoo doll, yeah, you would be in 100000000000000000 times the pain of stepping on a Lego. And you would also die from most of those things, and since when has anyone ever died from stepping on a lego?!?!?!?!?!?!
"Here's some tools, make the doll yourself " 😂 😂
Didn't even mention the line " I have a date with a 6 year old boy".
another example of, context matters.
Probably because Doug and Phelous beat that one into the ground in their review.
ExplorerDS6789
When that line played they literally skipped to the next joke
@@ExplorerDS6789 Sadly Phelous unfollowed Brad on Twitter
@Russell Hunter He was talking to the guy who taught him the possession spell i think.
I saw this film when I was about 7. I had a My Buddy doll, and my first response was to beat the shit out of it to see if it was alive..
The logical course of action.
Wow, Toy Story 4 sounds dark.
Good Call
same here lol
I used to wait until I was alone in a room with a doll and look at it and say things like "I know your alive just say SOMETHING!!" and punch it in the head. I miss being a kid and having an imagination lmao
Ugh, I found Chucky way scarier when he was pretending to be a GoodGuy-doll.
Him making an evil face and swearing, oddly humanized him and made him less creepy.
Your actually right he's more creepy when he's pretending to be a doll.
You have creepiness in the first act, realizing threat in second, and overcoming threat in third. Most horror movies do this.
I have watched this with people who are terrified of dolls and can confirm that even they were immediately less terrified of Chucky once he started swearing and yelling. I find his first evil lines in the doll to be hilarious, but even on a technical level his more evil form has more expression and movement, which definitely makes him less uncanny. The dolls dead-eyed stare and barely moving mouth really adds to the creep factor and a lot of the time is the main source of the fear.
I see what you mean but he’s a chilling villain when he comes to life in this
as someone that was traumatically terrified of chucky growing up i completely agree. watching them later in life they were just as scary until that stuff starts happening then yeah he's still dangerous but ends up coming off more funny.
Fun fact Chucky’s whole name is actually derived from famous American killers Charles Manson, Lee Harvey Oswald, and James Earl Ray.
brandon roberts yeah they pretty much stacked him up to be the ultimate murderer
J Double C when I read your comment, my brain autocorrected “James Earl Ray” as “James Earl Jones”.
Manson didn't kill and Oswald was the fall guy. It couldn't happen the way they said. But yes based on what the govt and media tells us they are killers.
@@dontdiscriminatehateeveryo9263 James Earl Ray might not have been the triggerman either. A better name would’ve been Richard John Cowell.
Love the cinema snob reviewing horror films
He does less of a review on films and more of riff tracks.
@Earl The Pearl Yeah.........But 'Member when he did do reviews? That was cool.....
I like his work but I do prefer dead meats killcounts
Ah, here’s the problem with your Cinema Snob doll, someone switched it to evil.
Chucky was originally voiced by Archer's mom? I want to see that movie.
Jessica Walter!?! Man that would have been a different movie...
Look out for that loose seal/Lucile!!
Gaaah!! That would’ve been weird.
I imagine it would be an extension of her "Play Misty for Me" character in doll form.
I want a Patrick Stewart chucky
sooooo, Mark Hamill, who was by far the best animated joker voice actor, will voice chucky? I'm sold
If only he possessed a Krusty doll, they could've just turned his switch away from evil.
That's why you have to buy your cursed doll from a legitimate scary asian shop and not from a dude in a dark alley. Quality! And you get a free frozen yogurt.
@@phreakazoith2237 The frogurt is also cursed.
Doh! But you get your choice of topping!
@@phreakazoith2237 the topping contains potassium benzoate.
To Wumbo?
I didn't know Tom Holland made films before joining the MCU.
@The Jazz King Different Tom Holland. The one who plays Spidey in the MCU was named after the director of this film!
Brad Dourif utterly made this film for me what a great voice actor. Also how much for that VooDoo doll of Cinema snob. I have some plans. Muahaha.
Tim Burton originally wanted Dourif to play the Joker on his Batman film, that would've been an interesting choice.
Speaking of Fright Night, I hope there's a Snob episode on that soon.
Kind of makes you wonder what he'd think of that one. I personally think it's the best vampire movie I have ever seen.
fo real best vampire movie & soundtrack lol
the cop "gave her some advice, don't go to the south side (of chicago). the car is safer- and it's got chucky in it!" "the cops are gonna rush in and rob chucky of his religious freedom!" as someone that grew up on the south side of chicago, you made me snort and damn near choke on my tea!!! well done cinema snob, well done 😆
“Hardcore Ending to Jingle All the Way”! 🧐😎
WOW, Arnold Schwarzenegger vs Chucky, Why didn’t the 80’s or 90’s Give us THAT HardGore~Action Crossover!? 😃😉😂
Because Arnold was busy tricking Stallone to be in Stop or my Mom will shoot.
We already did with Rick Steiner at WWE.
Hasta la vista, Chucky
Za Dowl is alive! I need to shoot zat doll!
@@DieHardAlien god that made me cringe so much when I first saw it. That was even worse than Robocop saving sting from the horsemen
I wish they released the 2 hour cut. One can find pictures of the deleted scenes online, which include the extended opening where Chris Sarandon's Officer Mike is dressed in drag and tries luring Charles into an alley only for him to run away. In the theatrical cut that explain's Mike's weird outfit and why he tossed away clothing while chasing Charles. Other memorable deleted scenes include Andy's dad Bob, the witch doctor John using voodoo to cure a sick infant, and my favorite of all: Chucky recruiting a little girl named Mona to help him get to Andy's room in the asylum.
The title card for this episode represents Brad's actual height.
I confirm, he and I are the same height. I was kind of surprised by that when I met him lol
How tall is he?
Quick Album Reviews still waiting on that info...we must know!
@@Amanda_Harper5ft 7ins, according to IMDb.
Brad Dourif

Both enjoyable.
They should have a sit-com called My Two Brads. 🤔
Right before 3 Guys that Paint.
Wow. I didnt know Spiderman was involved in this film. Wonder how his views are on the new one.
Yes! Thats what i thought
Different Tom Holland. The one who plays Spidey was named after the director of this film!
@@AspieMediaBobby Have you ever heard of a joke?
@@ludwigtill7784 I`m on the Autism/Asperger`s Spectrum and furthermore it`s difficult to tell if someone is being humorous or not in text. Putting aside the general subjectivity of humor and many other things this world takes for granted,of course.
There not related 😐
I love how much of a mic drop “this is the end friend” is especially for a kid
Snob as Chucky's voice was HILARIOUS!!
No, You cut out the beat part where Charlie goes “Oh god, I’m dying.”
Quality acting. "Oh bother! I'm dying"
I'm guessing he skipped that one because Nostalgia Critic & Phelan mention it. I was also expecting a line about Andy's very authentic looking scared and crying scene and even another part. Even though the NC video is pretty outdated now, I know Brad and Doug are usually pretty careful not retread the same material as each other, so that's my guess why a few moments went untouched
@@4Legacy Doug and Phelan's video is still hilarious. I can't look at that hammer flying up without MC H going: Hammer Time!
@@davidjames579 I agree! I love looking back on all three of their reviews
We still haven't got that Rick Steiner vs. Chucky match WCW teased us with.
@Raymond Frand Maybe Chucky will be doing the muscle man dance.
Maybe that's why WCW's dead.
Ugh I still cringe at the memory of that. That was almost as bad as Robocop saving Sting from the horsemen
Sarandon wouldn't have dismissed the mom so quickly if she said a vampire bit her. But a killer doll? Nonsense.
Whats this, whats this? a vampire bit you? whats this, whats this?
"In a world gone mad..... (Devoid of laughter and entertainment)... Snob is the only answer"

I swear the smug boss was also a Smug Clerk in the first Home Alone. Maybe that guy made a career out of thwarting stressed mother characters while wearing dorky glasses.
I'm so happy mancini has the reigns again and is giving us the TV show and the cult movies. Dudes a horror genius.
"Oh, don't you SEE? He's been moving and talking for days without any BATTERIES in him!" My FAVORITE line in the whole movie:):)
Love Brad doing Child's Play but would love to see him doing more Hellraiser.
He should do the entire series.
He probably will, eventually. He's done all the Elm Streets, Friday the 13ths and Halloweens (most of them anyway). But he's also got Texas Chainsaw to finish.
as far as I see he already did all the Hellraiser movies. There is just two of them right? RIGHT?
@@phreakazoith2237 don't you dare dismiss Bloodlines. That, part 4, was the last great Hellraiser movie, and it was fuckin pinhead IN SPAAAAACE... actually done right, because it also was half prequel.
Your wishes were granted!! 🤣
Snob sees his doll moving slightly, but he doesn't get up. That sounds like my level of energy right now.
The moment when Andy’s pleas of stop die off always made me feel like that was the moment something broke inside him :(
Don't forget Don Mancini is continuing the chucky story from cult of chucky with a tv series still featuring Brad Douriff
That actually makes me really happy. Brad Dourif is underrated as an actor, I think. Granted he mostly plays slimy skeezeballs, but damn does he do it well.
sounds like you have more faith in hollywood than the average person.
After I watched this review, I showed this movie to my 9-year-old daughter. Now, in 2024 , it's become one of her favorite movies that I have to watch with her every other weekend, it seems like.
This is what I live for, Cinema Snob doing campy old horror movies. I'd love to see Silver Bullet one day.
otakon17 same. Or Dr. Giggles
Revenge of the nerds are ripe comedy gold for Brad too, if he ever gets around to doing it
I like how Mrs. Barclay got Andy accessories for the doll thatche didn't get 😂😂
Marla Hooch: "I'm singin to Nelson, ain't I baby"
Nelson: "you sure are"
Seeing this notification made my day at 6am.
Please review "Dolls" (1987). It will make you have a whole new sense of respect for dolls everywhere.
Isn’t that the one that was like the old fairy tales?
Sarandon wouldn't have dismissed Andy so quickly if the kid was talking about vampires. But a killer doll? Pshaw.
Okay, now I need to find a video of Mallory Archer's voice coming out of Chucky's mouth.
HELL YEAH,🤘🤘 I've been waiting on this one, hope he reviews all of em
I live 5 minutes from bettendorf iowa for 28 damn years. Finally move away and 8 months later cinema snob and nostalgia critic are going to be there. YAY! My life rules!!!!
Me an my aultisc oldest son Jake are Huge fans of the channel your videos are funny as hell
Nice work from Tom Holland directing that movie despite being -8 years old.
The Willy Wonka line really made me laugh. Extremely well written episode.
first a Lloyd cartoon and now a Cinema Snob doll? Brad loves us.
I was hoping after Andy and Chucky took off from school, they'd do a Ferris Bueller thing; you know, museums, ball parks, fancy restaurants. Darn!
Wait, what? Jessica Walters? Does that mean that they shot the original opening scene with her as the Bedside strangler?
Cause that would have been hot
Maybe she just voiced the doll’s voice and it was like the voice box didn’t adapt to his normal voice and was just the doll’s voice? So still same Charles Lee Ray, but with a doll’s voice.
I see you make sense
Thank you
2 minutes in and I'm already remembering how I experienced the most intense laughing fit of my life during the final act of this movie the first time I saw it. Long after the movie ended I was still laughing. Just remembering how I couldn't stop laughing has me on the verge of laughter now. 🤣
Chucky was gonna be voiced by Mallory Archer?
So... I want the Cinema Snob Doll more than I've ever wanted anything else before in my life.
Still a classic. For me, its just Child's Play 1, 2, 3 (Very Underrated sequel) and maybe Bride but that's it.
Because nobody liked Seed or Curse... apparently.
I cant stand them, anything with Don Mancini just doesn't work for me. Which is why I'm looking forward to the remake than his TV show.
Jw Nj bride over curse or cult?
Yup, I cant stand curse or cult but hey, its ok if you like them, nothing wrong with that.
@@jwnj9716 Don mancini was co writer on all the film's. Did you already know this?
So Chester A. Bum is responsible for selling the possessed Chucky to Andy's mom. Also, The Snob Doll must have a thing for Robot Andy Kaufman.
@Raymond Frand awww come on help a guy out
7:05 Come'on she wasnt murdered, she was just really clumsy!
Okay, who put Looney Tunes in my horror movie about a killer doll?
I actually do remember Alex Vincent in My Family Treasure. I think I might still own the VHS.
Also, The Crypt Keeper uses the same eyes that were used for Chucky in the Child's Play movies. Next time you see The Crypt Keeper, just know that they are Chuckys eyes.
Shitty my brains out in a grocery store then seeing this I was screaming "Yes finally!" Not knowing what I was referring to but I cant wait for the entire series.
The sad part is, Catherine Hicks was worse off working with Stephen Collins than with Chucky.
This joke also works with Jessica Biel. TOPICAL!
Naw, she was much too old for him by that time.
I love Jessica Biel. 🤨
Well....this certainly is an instant classic Snob episode.
Shut up! My all-time favorite reviewer is covering my all-time favorite slasher! Now if I could only get you to review meet the Feebles
Fun review for an all time horror classic that I still love watching to this day! It's funny cause when I was a little kid, I browsed through my town's video store, saw the covers of the Chucky films, and was too scared to sleep for a week. Ha ha! The clip from Rob Zombie's Halloween caught me off guard. Here's hoping the Child's Play remake surprises us!
1:07 Holy shit! The current Spider-Man wrote this movie? That's pretty impressive, considering he hadn't been born yet.
JESSICA WALTER was the original voice of Chucky?!
Good call on having him recast with Brad Dourif, United Artists. Can you possibly imagine Lucille Bluth as a killer doll?
4:13 "In what i think is the only episode of it ever produced."
Glad i had to wait until the 3rd Child's Play review to be released publicly today for me to reference that. Hopefully i'm the first one to do this. ^^
hahahahahaha chasing the lead singer of ugly kid joe - killed me!!!!!!!!!
The Doc learned you don't make Chucky angry you won't like him when he's angry.
Jokerz 79 Damn right.
I’m just imagining grown up Andy watching good guys while getting baked with a severed good guy head 😂
Jimmy Wong's is to die for lol
wow, that doll animation is really well done, given the year move it from.
The voodoo doll scene scared the absolute SHIT out of me when I was way too young to be watching this. That was honestly the scariest part, I figured I could punch a killer doll, but the idea that voodoo could fuck me up from across the room freaked me RIGHT out.
I had the My Buddy doll when Child's Play came out. After seeing the previews for Child's Play on TV for the hundredth time I put the My Buddy doll in the bottom of the toybox, and put as much weight on top of it as I could find .lol.
This movie traumatised me as a child , to this day the scene with Chucky under the bed slitting the leg makes me cautious whenever i sit on a bed . The fact that my elder brother taped a knife on one my doll's hands and started yelling that the doll was alive and out to kill me didn't help much either getting past my fear of this movie .
Good ol' childhood trauma, their is none so bad that an elder brother can't make it worse.
That didn't happen in this movie...
That never happened in child's play
Snob, I respect you, I love your creative output, and yet I have to ask something:
WHY DID YOU NOT INCLUDE THE 'I HAVE A DATE WITH A 6-YEAR-OLD BOY' LINE???
3:10-3:17 ( I'd watch that movie if it had the hardcore ending!)
4:38-4:49- (What fresh hell was that?)
6:04-6:09- (🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣)
7:21-7:29 (don't trust creepy kids, bro!)
8:53-9:08 (I concur. I'm from Pittsburgh and that's the best way to stay warm)
9:15-9:18 (Worst mom ever)
9:48-9:57 (WTF?! 🤣🤣🤣)
14:01-14:08 (nice Wonka reference)
14:20-14:24 (still my favorite line)
15:45-15:51 (😆😆)
16:17-16:26 (nightmare fuel)
As a child, at the height of this series, everybody used to joke to little kids that Chucky is behind them and he's going to get them at night. I don't know if kids today, would be scared being told that a creepy doll named Chucky is behind them.
Thanks for another quality video I remember the first time I watched “burial ground nights of terror” video back in 2009 or 2010 ? Oh man my man good times and many life times ago
The original Child’s Play is CLASSIC! Not to dis the 2019 movie-I’m positive that Mark Hamil is an EXCELLENT Chucky, even though I haven’t seen it, but I just KNOW he’s the perfect voice for Chucky! What bothers me, though, is the fact that in the 2019 version Chucky’s evil nature is due to a system malfunction rather than a possession, which, in my opinion, takes away Chucky’s motive for wanting to possess Andy’s body, as well as his reason for wanting revenge on Eddie Caputo for double-crossing him and the cop who shot him and the witch doctor who taught him the dark arts but didn’t tell him ALL the details, such as the fact that the longer he stayed in the doll’s body the more human he becomes! Of course, as I said, I haven’t seen the 2019 movie yet, so maybe they’ve covered that plot point. Ha! I remember some years ago my friend Tom and I were discussing “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest”, one of our favorite movies, and my friend Tom commented, saying, “Well you know what famous actor got his start in that movie, don’t you?” I immediately responded, “I sure do!” Turns out he was actually referring to Danny Devito who played Martini, but I thought he was referring to Brad Dourif, the original voice of Chucky, who played Billy Bibbit, a shy young man with a terrible stutter! (Wow! I always thought it was interesting that 13 years before Child’s Play came out “Chucky” was a shy, frightened young man who stuttered! Man, I was thinking that in 1988 “Chucky” would NOT have taken Nurse Wratched’s overbearing shit and she would be the first one to go!) Then we revealed to each other who we were each talking about and he asked me, “Who’s Brad Dourif?” I couldn’t believe my ears! We’re both horror fans, and we’re both Chucky fans, and I just couldn’t believe that being a Chucky fan he didn’t know who voiced Chucky! So I told said, “Who’s Brad Dourif?? You don’t know who Brad Dourif is?? A huge horror fan like you and you don’t even know who Brad Dourif is??!! EVERY horror fan knows who Brad Dourif is!! He’s the voice of Chucky!” Well, my friend was quite surprised!
OK, I immediately want that Cinema Snob doll. Brad, you planning on a yard sale anytime soon?
The first kill with the baby sitter flying out the window is hilarious. You can barely blame chucky for that one, he hit her with a toy hammer and somehow that sent her falling back and flying out the window that: 1. Was a good distance from where she got hit; and, 2. Wasn’t made from the type of glass most household windows are made of, which wouldn’t shatter with that little force. And on top of that when she’s falling, she comes out of the window in the opposite direction she fell out.
Rewatching 1 and 2 before part 3
This may sound a bit random of a thing to say, but if Bakshi's original concept of Cool World was actually made, I wouldn't be surprised if Brad Dourif would've been a good fit for that psychotic human/toon hybrid offspring character.
I’m here brushing up on my Chucky references for the new “Good Guy” program we have at work. Don’t mind me.
Great review! Looking forward to CP 2 & 3 reviews
Protip for parents: If your kid says a doll is alive, destroy that doll.
4:34 - 4:44 why it's Jimmy and H.R. Pufnstuf's love child. That "IS" terrifying!
WHAT?!?! Wouldn't it make more sense if he was H.R. and WITCHIEPOO'S love child? She does do the witchcraft thing, after all.
I love how in a lot of your recent reviews you’ve done bits where it looks like you’re foreshadowing a skit a la other CZcams reviewers but then TWIST it’s actually a movie review
Very enjoyable. I would love to see reviews for the rest of the series in the future.
The original Child's Play is 35 years old!
Made $44 million against a $9 million budget
Crazy I didn't watch this one for so long as a kid, I watched the sequels more frequently
The idea came from my buddy doll released in 1985 it turns out
Amazing how the franchise has endured with 2 comics, a comedy show, 6 sequels, a remake, and the tv show
Director Tom Holland makes great use of the material using dolly cam perspectives, low angles, state of the art special effects, and a solid cast with solid performances
Holland also tackled some disturbing subject matters looking at social inequality, sexual assault, and how failing institutions protect those at risk
The music is absolutely brilliant creating a sense of dread and unease
The Chicago setting is used effectively being cold with certain parts looking grimy and dangerous; an integral component offering an unflinching portrait of poverty, crime, and suffering
Alex Vincent does a good job yet he could use more work with his line readings
The characters of the mother and son make them easily sympathetic and relatable than your run-of-the-mill slasher film, they are the emotional core of the story
There’s only small doses of humor but it doesn’t detract away from the creep factor of this doll slinking around on his victims
Thanks to Brad Dourif’s voice acting he brings a true feeling of malevolence to this doll plus the effects blend so seamlessly it’s hard to tell between the puppetry and using little people
There’s a real sense of foreboding during the films brief runtime
Some might find it pretty silly today but it’s the first film to establish the slasher villain’s status in the annals of horror history, after all the fear of toys coming alive is something we can all attest to
The film even inserts a commentary of excess consumerism, children's marketing, and capitalism, you could also argue the central theme is the warning against the hostility and inhuman world of advertisers
Lake Shore Drive, The Loop, Portillo’s, Da Bears and Chucky. I love Chicago
That camera angle is a lot closer to that doll than before. ☠️☠️
1988 Chucky: You're out of your mind! I'm scarier!
2019 Chucky: Uh, no, I am!
1988 Chucky: I am!
