    DISCLAIMER:
As I’m sure some of you noticed, a portion of the footage in this video is either mirrored or has my logo near the edge of the screen, this was done as magic railroad is very heavily protected by copyright and the video kept getting demonetised because of it. I also missed an editing mistake in my voiceover when I say ‘the coal truck scene’ twice. My apologies if this caused any of you guys some inconvenience.

@@joshuaW5621 I consider the original version canon because the final version is overrated. If Diesel 10 was on Sodor before, then why would Sir Topham Hatt let him return?! It makes no sense! And say what you want about P.T. Boomer because Burnett telling Patch about Diesel 10 as an "evil diesel" in the final cut makes Burnett look crazy. And I think Boomer would've been Lily's motivation to go with Junior to Sodor since she saw him twice looking like he was up to no good, which he was.

The scene where Thomas goes back for the coal truck was actually extended more in the WPs, after Thomas says 'stoke it up to make steam', Lily in her own excitement accidentally falls out of Thomas' cab and the latter worried and surprised bravely goes back to collect her. He finds her luckily near the coal truck, gets coupled up, Lily climbs aboard and away they went to Muffle Mountain.
Also, Thomas does say this one line as he reverses 'Little Engines CAN Do Big Things! I'm not going to lose Lily, and I'm not going to lose that coal truck again either! I'm going back, and I'm going alone!" In the original script, Thomas was put through a lot such as being belittled by the big engines and nearly fell victim to Diesel 10's schemes such as quarry dust and had his whistle not working due to ash being put into his funnel during the night. Despite that, he still pulls through like he always does even during a huge crisis he and the other characters faced. Mara Wilson stated in that Q&A panel that it would've been a fun bonding exercise for Thomas and Lily and that he'd probably had to overcome a fear of his own too. Don't believe me, here's the link to said-interview: czcams.com/video/zAC2Q8ou2z8/video.html

I know this movie is known for its infamous chase scene, which is fun to see, but in terms of characters and sticking to the show’s routes, man that scene is so reminiscent of that. Thomas is definitely in character and he’s sticking to his arc where he agrees to go through the buffers, shows his bravery and courage, and proves his worth at the end with the icing on the cake being that majestic music of Really Useful Engine by Hummie Mann playing on in the background. Definitely a cinema worthy scene. The movie may not be a great movie, the story and characters can be frustrating and confusing at times, and Thomas and his friends have very little screen time which is sinful in a movie about Thomas, but it’s scenes like these that make your watching experience a rather delightful one.

Two things I cannot fault about the movies are the model segments and the soundtrack. The models are authentic to the show and the sets look very nice, and the soundtrack is appropriately whimsical and grand scale, even if it doesn’t use many recognisable motifs.

Magic Railroad’s biggest flaw as a movie is that it has like 3 or 4 plots going on at the same time when the plot that’s the most simple and the most intriguing (the engines having to find the lost engine before D10 does and destroys them all) is given probably the least amount of focus. It’s genuinely intriguing that the engines have a race against time before their certain destruction and D10 is such a fun villain and perfect for a cinematic Thomas villain. A representation of BR’s modernization and the threat it posed to steam engines even with his own cutters torch in a way, but also being a complete embarrassment to himself for a lot of it. (much like BR was with a lot of its diesels)
I genuinely think if the movie had more of Thomas, more fans would love it, warts and all. Because if you look at the engines’ dialogue, even their little mannerisms, their banter, its very close to how it is in Season 5. Gordon being a pompous dickhead, Henry being an annoyed stuff-up, James (despite his voice) being vein and eager to prove himself, etc. They are all pretty close to themselves in S5 and i think people would genuinely love that. Also the aesthetic for this movie is genuinely beautiful, especially as a cinematic TTTE adaptation. taking the already beautiful sets, models and music from the show and elevating them up to 11 is so nice.
I just wish the movie had more of it

Honestly, TATMR remains a staple of my childhood. Even to this day, it's my most favorite Thomas movie and I don't care what anyone says. The music, the characters, and atmosphere really sealed the deal.
Now after rewatching the film, I do agree that it has issues. For one, the plot itself is so complicated to follow even as a little kid. The problem with most kids movies today is that they're trying way too hard to be appealing when in reality, they're just making a convoluted storyline that becomes dullsome.
Now, Thomas was set in a realistic setting where trains acted like trains. There was a clear attempt by the crew to make Sodor look like a real place to visit, and they succeeded. Introducing that magical element not only ruins that charm with older fans, but it creates so many questions that are left unanswered. Like how was the magic railroad built, why does Diesel 10 want to destroy Lady, is Sodor just a bubble that's separate from the real world? etc. It just wastes production time and makes the film a bit unwatchable.
Besides that, I want to talk about the set designs. Don't get me wrong, they did a good job at presenting Sodor, but now as an adult, I feel they could've done better. It just feels bland with all that green and gray instead of a more variety of color. Ironic that the TV series had better set designs, and it didn't even have a big budget. We had those beautiful mountain sceneries, the bustling nature of the docks, and the quiet nature of the branchline. Putting in those settings would've added on towards worldbuilding, and allow the audience to realize that Sodor is a functioning railway.
Also, it's kind of weird that we don't see much life on Sodor. Aside from the human characters, the island of Sodor feels empty with virtually no life. No passengers, no drivers, and no workmen are ever present. IMO, they should've used human background characters to make the scene more lively. Additionally, we only get to see the Steam Team as well as a few recurring characters like Bertie, but never anyone else. It would've nice to see Duck or Boco or even the narrow gauge engines make an appearance.
Another criticism of the movie is the over-focus on the human characters, which I do agree. Aside from Mr. Conductor, Junior, and PT Boomer, they should've removed the human aspect because it deters away from the main plot. We all came to see Thomas the Tank Engine, but instead we get this generic love story between Patch and Lily. Now as a kid and today, I don't really mind that Shining Time is in the movie, although I can't deny it creates confusion amongst audiences. No one really pays attention to the sidekick character, so seeing Shining Time in a country that doesn't air the show would be mind-boggling. All that aside, I wish the film stayed true to its word and make Thomas the main character. Putting in these unnecessary additions is just a waste of time.
Moving onto humor. Now in order for a movie to be good, you gotta have some good comedy within those pages. TATMR does have those moments and they're pretty hilarious at times. I remember laughing when that portrait of Sir Topham Hatt literally frowned at Mr. Conductor wearing his hat. But upon rewatching, it kind of gets a bit silly. Like when Mr. Conductor calls his cousin via flowers. Once that scene comes into your head, you know it's not Sodor. I can take the magical buffers and gold dust, but creating something as wacky as that is not my cup of tea. Mr. Conductor especially is entertaining, but I find it odd that he would break the fourth wall and talk directly to the audience in some shots. I understand he's the narrator, but it doesn't quite fit with the universe of Thomas.

It’s not the best Thomas movie out there. But, out of the Thomas sections, it’s the best scenes of Thomas and his friends if that makes sense.

To be honest @Thomasfan261 I really enjoyed the movie and loved most characters... Although yes I think they screwed up not having Edward and (real moving) humans on Sodor, does not add up. Edward is wise and could have put him shunting freight cars at the quarry/docks or giving advice or being Mr. Conductor's main travel engine...
Britt says is cannon, and even if she said no. I consider it to be. And Lady appears again in Calling All Engines. So it is a bonus point for me, but wish there was more scenes and moments afterwards.
Maybe like at the end Calling All Engines, Diesel 10 apologizing to Lady and Thomas for being rude to other engines, to which Lady forgives him and tells him he needs to learn to coexist and befriend more often and after this, 19 leaves and leaving our couple (Lady and Thomas: I ship them, know it's wrong but at the same time, they look adorable and share some things in common at this point).
A thing I really dislike in Thomas&TMR is plot issues, Thomas and his friends not having much screentime (they should have renamed the movie as Thomas and Shinning Time or the Special Buffers), or to be honest, reconsider the whole plot movie to Lady being a lost engine on Muffle Mountain (and consider Muffle Mountain as a very high, large and mysterious mountain on Sodor with sooo many myths, one of them being a young (Lady) engine whistling at night so loud).
And one day Thomas loses his troublesome trucks and chases after but eventually gets tired and lost in a small three track labyrinth and he actually ends up finding Lady and rescues her, since she ran out of coal and Thomas gives her some with help of conductor and fireman and makes her steam and go back to Sodor, and Thomas and Lady try finding the truck but just couldn't and meet back, and then found them outside the Mountain...
Well we can only dream of precious & previous characters only ¿Can we?
Unless they retunr in All Engines Go. But highly unlikely.
Great vid as always and love Thomas maturity, even if not fully developed, he is somewhere in between and know he must help others at his best.

I wanted to make a model of Thomas in this exact blue paint job but I couldn’t find what exact brand of paint it was nor the exact blue it is.
Okay, I said exact three times but still.
Edit: to top him off with a gloss varnish just to keep him unique.

Because it’s not a good movie, it’s got some great stuff in it but that doesn’t mean that I like the film, I’m nostalgic for it but I’m fully aware of it’s flaws.
