- In this video I'm making a wind up marble machine out of a tape measure spring. Using 9mm ball bearings and a magical device called rotary damper to reduce the speed.

QUESTION: How long do you think this can run for after winding it up? Full duration video coming soon :) EDIT: its live!
I guess 4 minutes and 12 seconds.
uhmm, it takes about 15seconds for 1/4 or rotation give us a 80 seconds for full rotation, that spring can probably have 20 rotation in it (total guess), so about 25 minute. Let me know if at least i calculate the full rotation correctly, my guess is that will vary quite a bit while discharging and that little brake will stop the spring way early. I wonder why using the brake thing instead of using a gear reduction :/
@@lesto12321 Its not a brake, but a viscous damper. It doesn't actually lose any (or a very small amount) of energy. The only thing it does is slowing the discharge of the spring. I would say though that a larger gear on the damper would give a better overall mechanism, because imo the marbles are lifted a little too slow for the mechanism to be fun to look at.
30-40 min
4:20 fur sure dude
Amazing - its like Wintergatan and This Old Tony had a love child :)
The 3D gear getting out of the computer screen on a simple click killed me !
I'm still looking for this icon on my own CAD...
A rotational damper, you said ? I must find this thing for future projects...
Thanks and Bravo !!!
Maaaan, another fantastic video! Thank you for all the work you put into the storytelling of how you build it and the great visual tricks that are so exciting to watch out for. It all is very much appreciated!
Very enjoyable to watch. Thank you for sharing!
oh hi there
man this editing! 2:57 You outdid yourself again
For real
Ah, if *ONLY* 3D printing were like that! Cause if it was I'd be building a TON of stuff just for fun :)
Fantastic!!!
Glad to see you are back posting videos! Awesome as always. Wish you the best in this difficult personal moment.
Beyond enjoyable, the machine, the music, the editing...everything! Thank you, I loved watching this!
Haha!! That transition from 3D model to actual gear was flawless.
Thanks Daniel...I wanted to make a wind-up marble machine for my grandchildren. I stalled at figuring out speed control. I did not want to use friction, although it is interesting that the original wind-up gramophone (record player...err thingy that rotated a disc like a CD and made music with a vibrating needle ) was speed controlled using friction. You, one of the marble run masters, are a victor in simplicity and artistry. Wonderful work!!
Your video quality is so high! Such awesome edits and transitions from scenes!
what a calculation maaan brilliant 👑...
I love how simplistic yet entertaining your videos are!
So great. Really appreciate your work Daniel.
Just amazing Daniel! Thank you for sharing.
You're machines are pure genius!!!
Super cool project, love the variety of fabrication methods!
I cannot see how you can tell a story without any words and it still turns out this good!
2:24: Ooh, that is one of the most satisfying things I've ever seen!
Such a beauty! I love the way how you encounter problems in a clever way, like blocking the balls from falling in the wheel! Keep up the work!
Very cool idea and it turned out really nice! Also, great video! Love the "magic" gag and the transition with that 3D printed wheel! I also like how there is only ever 1 extra ball sitting in the platform ready to be loaded!
ended with a bad day, but watching 7 min of this gave me some relaxation, TQ
天才だ...
見てて飽きないし、小技好き!
Like the project, the video editing, synched music and the magic happening at 02:58 !
So simple, but it’s so amazing the making of a gear, but the turning of a gear creates so many other movements in life. This was amazing.
Very well done. I love the workshop. Kinda reminds me of the Adam Savage shop with the all the bits and storage.
Another amazing build, Daniel! Your attention to detail is extraordinary!
Daniel, this is the next level. Thank you
Brilliant!
Absolutely beautiful ❤️
Nice, never thought about building a clock barrel like that
Martin from Wintergatan: Heavy breathing caused by disturbing lack of washer stacks and not enough redundancy.
Pain is temporary. Glory is forever. ::Screams in angle grinder::
Redundancy 🤣
I was looking for this comment!
I had similar thoughts at various times. I would have automatically put bearings for the main shaft and a set screw for the brass winding knob. But economy in engineering has its own elegance. The shaft is not loaded enough to require a bearing. Thread locker works fine to hold the winding knob, is faster, and visually cleaner. (I would have used the blue, assuming this brand follows Loctite’s color coding. On the assumption I might have messed something up and had to take it apart again.)
Una edición espectacular y un juguete increíble!!!
Genius. Wish I was so talented!
Wow, this is a really good timelapse! Does not come off as amateur at all, super entertaining!
My god, i the editing on this is SO good
Random top notch CZcams recommendation👌👌 congrats for the amazing work
IMPRESIONANTE!!!! BRAVO DANIEL!!!!
This is just great, the simplicity of the mechanism is an inspiring piece of art. :)
Love your work, super clean shop, precision engineering, great camera work, crisp edit, funk music. Everything. I’m inspired to build my own now. Baby steps.
These videos are always so mesmerising. Cool stuff!
Very clever and talented on multiple levels.
Nice equipment and of course great ideas!!!😍💯
This is fantastic!
ただただ、すごい!大人のおもちゃ、という感じで、ずっと眺めていられます!
That little subscribe in the magic box was adorable
Amazing! I realy love your editting style. The 3D printed parts 'falling' from the screen was fantastic!
Love watching your vids. And the special effects were great! Especially the gear coming out of Fusion 360 like that. Awesome!
wow... just WOW
Very nice and clever design.
Daniel de Bruin, you have created an outstanding niche CZcams channel! I always get excited when I see new a video of yours!
You create unique, creative and entertaining content! Hope to see more!
4:34 done. You are very creative and your editing is top notch. I appreciate you. Thank you for sharing your time and experience
Man, that's some This Old Tony magic right there!
Nice workshop and skills!
You have an amazing workshop
dude everything was so smooth on your video, super enjoyable to watch
A beauty! As usual!
Quality production!
great job!!
Not only a great video, but also remarkable video editing and story telling.
Incredible sir!
so nice!
This was only 7 minutes, yet it felt like I was watching something much longer, and I mean that in the most positive way possible. I have seen everything this has to offer and I understand it, very enjoyable.
Impressive!
Amazing so ckever and well designed
I love this so much
Respect !
That's really cool
Like poetry in motion watching your marble machine come together. That magic device is intriguing. Can you adjust it so it's not so slow. It's cool watching 2 or 3 marbles chasing each other down the track instead of one at a time.
Amazing project and cool video montage! Hope to see other videos like this!
😯: my face after the gear wheel fell out of the screen. Absolutely fantastic! Everyone does the hand-chop-to-cut-metal gag, but that was unique, and genuinely surprising.
Also can I please have your workshop transported to my place. Like tomorrow?
Such high quality
the quality is impecable
I love the art your doing but what I love the most is engineering
