    For the first time in 11 years a Dutch song became immediately number 1 in the top 40. It has never ever happened before that a song from Eurovision has entered the top 40 this hight BEFORE the contest started. It's a humongous hit here in The Netherlands. He's going to work together with Donny Ronny, and we know that he did his previous staging on tour as well (just look at the Lowlands performance, you can tell how well his staging is thought out).

    Honestly i was sure that i won't spend any money on eurovision this year but Joost was the only one who stole my heart and i will definitely send him at least 1 vote.. He deserves so much! He is doing what i am expecting from ESC to give me, the emotions, the show, the message, the hidden deep of this silly frame to Europapa! Also the fact he grabbed whole Europe into one song and even his voice live is amazing gives me emotions and the hype! NETHERLANDS GO FOR THE 12 POINTS LOVE LOVE THIS

    He loves to be with his fans so he perform more often in the mosh pits. As he says "I don't have a lot of family but right now, you're all my family." I guess because his family fell apart on such a young age he has this drive to connect people together.

  • @sanderdeboer6034

    Papaoutai from Stromae is referenced in this song because of the fact both singers lost their PAPA’s (dads) at an early age. In most languages the word for dad is either Pa/Papi or Papa. Obviously French because Stromae also used Papa, but also in Spanish, Italian, German, Swedish, Polish, Finnish, Greek and obviously Dutch.
    So basically almost all non English speaking people will understand the Papa reference, it is only the English crowd who usually also don’t know a second language that will struggle with this.
    Just so we are clear EURO PAPA is a reference to his father who played a major role in him wanting to compete in Eurovision and the reason for the topic of the song. His father worked with refugees in the Netherlands and thought Joost that border are a man made concept. In the end the burning of that building represents both him wanting to see borders gone in both physical and psychological terms.
    And he sees attending Eurovision as a closure for his difficult years dealing with the loss of his parents.

    • @mego1806
      @mego1806 Před měsícem +6

      I dont think 'papa' will be too much of a struggle for English speakers, the majority of us who don't speak a second language still have plenty of exposure to it as a word for 'dad' through movies, TV, music, friends and plenty of other sources, just by virtue of the fact that it's used in so many places

    • @sanderdeboer6034
      @sanderdeboer6034 Před měsícem +2

      @@mego1806 You are probably right, however having seen several reaction videos on both papaoutai and Europapa, the native English speakers often failed to see the connection of the name of the song with its meaning. While non native English speakers seemed to have no problem with it.
      But to be fair, this is just anecdotal evidence so doesn’t proof much.

      So many other layers hide in this song. It's about Europe, about its past and future. It's about the EU, about Schengen, about Brexit, about free travel, about family, migrants, religions. About people meeting other people, other languages, other cultures. To me it is a song about the great European Project to bring peace and prosperity to our people, no matter the language, sun exposure or culture. Today, you can travel from Dublin to Riga without needing a passport or visum. Our fatherland is not Ireland or Letland anymore, but Europapa.

    Papaoute by Stromae is obviously a song that has had impact on Joost, as it is about a kid looking for his father, wondering where he is. Stromae lost his dad (killed in war) at 9 years old and his mother didn't tell him until he was 12 or so. The song has an amazing line that says "Everyone knows how to make babies, but nobody knows how to make papas". Pretty sure this all sounded very familiar and affected Joost deeply, so hence the reference.

    This is genuinely sang/sung by litteraly every stage of life in the Netherlands, I just went grocery shopping nearby a primary school and overheard childeren singing it, even at work or at like subcultures or activities of people gathering who not necessarily loving this song I heard people singing it. So since the new forever slogan of Eurovision is: united by music, I think this song embodies that all. I understand it is not necessarily everybody's cup of tea, I'll still think, since I watched quit some reactions, it is still giving a lot of people good vibes, and that is in the essence Eurovision.

      I have a feeling he's going to blow our minds with his show at Eurovision. So far, he's got it all figured out perfectly. In fact, I think this has a chance with the audience, but also with the jury. The song represents the Netherlands perfectly (native language, style of music and the music video is typically Dutch- mills, landscape), the lyrics are meaningful and deep. Quality music does not have to mean high vocals. I hope Germany and Belgium don't disappoint in the voting in both cases🫣

    The music and music video format is made in 90s style. The music is 90's Eurodance with Happy Hardcore elements.
    Happy Hardcore was very popular in the 90s in the Netherlands
    At the beginning of the song there is a shout.
    "Europe" ""lets come together" "is now or never" etc. That is a reference to Scooter
    The piano melody in the chorus when he sings Euro pa pa pa pa pa hey. Is a reference to Charly lownoise Mental Theo who made Happy Hardcore in the 90s.
    e.g
    Charly Lownoise and Mental Theo - Your Smile
    Charly Lownoise and Mental Theo - wonderful days
    The hard last part of the music is Made by DJ Paul Elstak Who also made Happy Hardcore in the 90's.
    e.g
    Dj Paul Elstak - Luv You More
    Dj Paul Elstak - Rainbow In The Sky
    He is also in the car in the video. DJ Paul also made Gabber (Hardcore) music.
    GabberHouse was very big in the Netherlands in the 90s. It was a youth culture that originated in the Netherlands.
    1 in 3 young people was Gabber (age 14 - 24). Those young people dancing (Hakkuh) in the video they look like the 90 Gabbers. Bald head or very short hair, Australian (Aussie) training suit, Nike Air Max shoes.
    Forgot to say.
    The birds in the beginning of the music video are a reference to "Charly Lownoise and Mental Theo - wonderful days". The original music video for that song also starts with birds in the sky
    Conclusion the music can't be more Dutch than this

He’s a marketing genius so he will not give away too much before the semi final (as he should), but with the professional team and budget that he has now I’m expecting something special. It is his long time dream to perform at that stage so he’s probably going to make it epic.

    The hook is ok, but everything else just isnt for me. The verses feel like they were written in 2 minutes, very simple and sounding like a nursery rhyme. In the music video He has a bit of a creepy smile that haunts me lol and the costumes werent good in my opinion. But I like the dutch scenery with the windmills, it looked very nice and very dutch. I like some hardstyle music but this particular happy hardstyle reminds me too much of polish Disco Polo with the use of that bloody keyboard/synth sound is just hurting my brain. The drop is fine but its too short and i dont like how it drastically switches to a sad thing at the end, it does not fit at all. The song is not in my top 10, but i would listen to this over croatias song.
