@@Twylyght1 Hi, Quite often I just draw my soap on a piece of paper, but for the video I used my computer as it would be clearer. I just drew that soap out in pdf annotator, so it's just like a pen and paper, but on screen. The bottle spatula does indeed have a name, it's called a 'mini supoon' and comes from a company called Dreamfarm, they have some brilliant kitchen items :-)
I love how you include all of the technical and mathematical aspects of soapmaking. No other soapmaking channel that I watch does this and it's extremely helpful and interesting for me.

Thank you so much Megan. The mica suppliers I use and mention in the video are great. I always use at a rate of 1 teaspoon per pound of oils (454g for me) and disperse in oil 1st, seems to always give a good result for me. Thank you for leaving me a comment, stay safe and well.

Your an amazing teacher. I've been watching a lot of soap making videos, in hopes of getting a better understanding of how I need to break down the volume of oils and lye. I've used the melt and pour, and it went well, but I'd really like to try the cold process method. It's seemed a bit scary at first. You make it seem alot more achievable. Thank you so much. I have to say you have an exceptional talent for making the soap do what you want. I love the waves, and the one with the cat. Also the Edvard Munch?( I think that was his name.) Tree Marie Soaps here in the states started the pointy layers. I really like that you have the sea layers colored correctly in that the white caps are on top were in real life they are! Great job on the soap. Thanks for sharing.
Hi, thanks for your comment. Actually though although Teri named the technique and made it popular she didn't invent it. There were a number of people already doing it, they just hadn't called it anything, several from Japan. For example with this video czcams.com/video/K0XyhzI4LQM/video.html. Please don't feel I have anything against Teri, I don't I love her work and think she is brilliant and as you will have seen I referenced to her in my video. She certainly did bring it to the attention of many, made an excellent video and before that taught the technique to the soap challenge club, but the technique was around before she did this. I'm no way implying that she copied anyone as she came across the technique by accident through being impatient whilst doing a layer pour and pouring too early, so she did find out about it by her own trial and error, but others were already doing it. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I do find the regulations tricky and sometimes it's like a little puzzle to work out what you can do. Not all of my soaps are inside the regulations, just because I may have a different colour choice than my assessments allow (typically the ones I do for the soap challenges) but those I only make 'for fun' and give to friends and family.

I LOVED IT! I have a nautical fragrance and it's just been sitting around. I knew I wanted to do a sea theme but couldn't figure out the math. So thank you for that. I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to be able to do this. At least to take some of the burden off my husband who we just recently found out that he has prostate cancer and is the kind of person who JUST HAS TO BE THE ONE WHO TAKES CARE OF HIS FAMILY. But if I could figure out how to measure the ingredients and stuff I know I could do it. But I've seen on here that you respond to people and if we could talk I would love that. Thank you. @@IDreamInSoap I have made a couple of batches of cold process soap but just with olive oil and cocoa butter and of course lye. I didn't color it or anything like that. Just simple and it did turn out good. But its all gone now. Its been awhile ago. But even after they cured about 3 weeks almost they still seemed softer than they should've been. I dont really understand the measurements of the oils. And whats the best ones to use. And how to measure the lye solution for the other oils batch. If you don't have time for this it's totally fine. I completely understand. And thank you so much for trying to help me.

Lisa, wow, another incredible video with such detailed directions! Well done! I have to try this as now I will have more time. Due to CoVid, our festival planned in May has been cancelled/post-poned and my 1000 soap bars for that festival are on hold. At last count, I had 624, expecting this weekend to crank out another 100-150. But, people at work are buying the soaps as hand washing with soap aids in rupturing the fat capsule of Co-Vid and killing it. One thing I have learned and thank you, is I like how you wait to add your fragrances to your split batters. I have started to do that and find that it helps in my multi-pour color in preventing thickening of the batter. Take care and thanks again Lisa!
Thank you so much Peter, yes it is a worrying time at the moment, make sure you stay safe. With the fragrance, yes it's always the last thing I add, so I do tend to measure and split it to keep my batter as fluid as possible.

I love anything ocean ..I love the waves you did in this soap..I like how you make soap samples for the color of the colourant for end result..I need to try this because I never know what colours look like in soap in the end

Your soap is very pretty and I really love it! One question is how to make the layer of your green wave that such below the sky so vivid and obvious When I saw you made the wave during pouring colors, the plastic bottle not placed high, the effect is also could be achieved! How is the technique to make it?
I start adding the white soap at the end of the pour so that it just tops the wave. I pour it into the last bit of soap in the jug before I complete the pour for that layer
Hi Alpa, I've never maid taco soap (pretty sure) so I don't have a video for it. Unfortunately in the UK, where I live it is illegal to make cosmetics that look like food (it's the same in all of Europe) as we have the food imitation act. So I don't make soap that resembles food. We can include certain elements as long as it's clear the soap isn't trying to imitate a piece of food, so for example I have done a soap with an orange embed, this is OK as the whole soap is not trying to just look like an orange, but things like cupcakes, doughnuts, taco soaps etc wouldn't be allowed

I try to share lots and lots of things to help people out. Hi, I was so excited to try making your wave soap but everything went wrong :0(. My batter either stayed fluid or it seized and went from emulsion to thick trace. I couldn't figure out what went wrong. Then it hit me. My bucket of butters that I forgot to melt was sitting on the other side of the room! I am sooo disappointed. This is the first soap I have made in a very long time. I guess being a stickler for the details did not work in my favor. Now I have to buy another 'beach' scent. I'm not giving up. I will admit watching you do the math made perfect sense until I tried to apply it to my batch. I couldn't figure it out & that's what made me forget the butters. I think I will cleanse my palette & do M&P tomorrow!

I keep watching these pointy soaps and I don’t get how the points come when each layer actually gets covered over w soap. I love the look but don’t see how the peaks actually come! Love Your videos!!!!
Hey Terri. The peaks are formed by leaving gaps in the next layer as you pour it. The soap you pour in pushes the soap that's already there and if you leave a gap it can be pushed up before you cover it with soap
I love your talent and skill in making soap. You definitely have a creative spirit. One question often soap makers reference recipes using "weight of oil". My recipe has 32 ounces of oil, but the entire recipe adds another pound of water and lye. So its total weight is 48 oz. or 3 lbs. So when you say to add color of 1 teaspoon per pound of oil do I use the 2 # oil weight or the 3 # total weight?
Hi Sue. I always work with just the oil weight. This is for fragrance and colour, you should ignore the water as most of that is lost during the cure, so you want to consider what you will be left with, especially for things that have a safe usage rate like fragrance oils
Hi Lisa. The landscape tuto plus this one... I think I am ready to do my own landscape soap with a picture from my region... Snowy Mount Canigou with blooming peachtrees .... like every end of february... You make your scratcher out of simple cardboard I saw...they don't get weak when the get wet?
ooh how exciting, i hope it goes well. Yes I often make a scraper from cardoard, especially if it's something I'm maybe only going to use once. They will get a bit wet, but should be ok, if you use stiff card and last for the soap you're making, but they will be no good if you wanted to use them again
I love using the squeeze bottles but my soap hardens too quickly and half of the soap gets stuck in the bottle! Is there something wrong with my recipe? Or could it be that my apartment is too cold (60°F)? I'm still new to soap making but I'm loving it so far!

I was watching Tiggy's videos and she mentioned you so I popped over to check your videos out - they're awesome and full of great tips - I'm interested to know why you're limited to 4 colours though?
Hey, thanks for popping over. I love Tiggy, isn't she great. In the UK we have to get all of our soaps tested before we can sell them. We submit a base recipe which has everything in we use for every soap in the exact proportions, cannot change the ratios. Then we have variations on our base, these are just things we can add to the base. Typically for a variation, we can have 5 extra items, so that would be your fragrance oil. any colours, botanicals etc. That for me is where the 4 colours come from, as that's all I have left for my 5 additions after my FO. Once those are set and passed as assessed, you cannot change them at all, so even if you wanted to swap 1 single colour, you would have to get a new assessment done and pay for it. You won't see Tiggy working to such tight restrictions as she was already assessed before these tight regulations came in she has more flexibility and works to a more flexible set of rules (lucky thing), so please don't think she' s doing anything wrong, she does have different rules to work to and does genuinely seem to do so. Ahh, I thought you meant that you CAN'T use more than 4 colours which is where I became confused - I'm the cosmetic safety assessment advisor for Naturally Balmy - we use Scott Grainger for our customer's assessments - with us, the basic allowance is up to 10 ingredients for the base recipe and 5 additional ingredients per variant - we do allow more than the 5 ingredients which is why I became confused - it costs a little more, but it's definitely an option if you wanted to add more - I'm super excited to have another soap maker to watch - I'm hoping to start making my own videos soon too! Hello, I am watching this awesome video once again. You said you cpop @ 170c or 75f? I believe you meant the other way around yes? 75F = 24c & 75c =167f. But 170c = 338f. I would think that is pretty high. Would you please confirm this for me. I've always heard put the oven on the lowest setting, which is 170* in the states. Then turn it off & let it sit overnight. Thanks. I'm excited to try this technique this weekend. I don't want to make any mistakes! Lol :0)

So, I've been able to edit the video whilst it's still live, you can't do a lot, so I've just cut the temperatures out, which is a bit of a shame, but I don't want people cooking their soap. Thank you so much once again for bringing this to my attention so I could change it :-)
Hello ! I m not quite sure I understood what you told us about the moment you put your soap in the oven : your oven is turned off? If so what was the temperature and how long did you let it run ? Hi Florence, yes you are right, the oven is just warmed up without the soap in it. So you warm it up to 75C or 170F, when it gets to that temperature turn it off when the soap goes in. You're not actually trying to cook the soap, just give it a warm place to sit. Thank you for your lovely compliments. Stay safe and well :-)

Is that necessary because you are pouring the soap when it is barely mixed? Or will the soap set up regardless? I am just curious as to the reason for it. I think I sorted it, something seems to have happened where I tried to do an edit as I got my CPOP temps the wrong way round. I say 170C 75F and it should be 170F 75C, something weird hapenned. So please ignore that bit.
Hi, I'm based in the UK, so any soap that we want to sell has to have a cosmetic safety certificate. We are restricted with the amount of colours, fragrance and fragrance types, so typically will only be allowed 4 colours in a soap and 1 fragrance, if we want to add anything else, like a botanical etc it would take the place of one of your colours. Then once you have your choices made you have to stick to then exactly, so you can't change a colour or an amount at all, if you do, you have to pay for a new assessment and get that variant approved as well.
Sorry, I don't give out my recipe as it's something that I have had to spend a lot of time and money creating and getting cosmetically assessed for sale.
Thank you for your comment. I think the cutting is a tricky one, looking at the statistics a lot of people drop off and stop viewing once the 1st few bars are cut, especially if the type of design means that all of the bars are similar, but I will bear it in mind :-)

Your an amazing teacher. I've been watching a lot of soap making videos, in hopes of getting a better understanding of how I need to break down the volume of oils and lye. I've used the melt and pour, and it went well, but I'd really like to try the cold process method. It's seemed a bit scary at first. You make it seem alot more achievable. Thank you so much. I have to say you have an exceptional talent for making the soap do what you want. I love the waves, and the one with the cat. Also the Edvard Munch?( I think that was his name.) Hi, thanks for your comment. Actually though although Teri named the technique and made it popular she didn't invent it. There were a number of people already doing it, they just hadn't called it anything, several from Japan. For example with this video czcams.com/video/K0XyhzI4LQM/video.html. Please don't feel I have anything against Teri, I don't I love her work and think she is brilliant and as you will have seen I referenced to her in my video. She certainly did bring it to the attention of many, made an excellent video and before that taught the technique to the soap challenge club, but the technique was around before she did this. I'm no way implying that she copied anyone as she came across the technique by accident through being impatient whilst doing a layer pour and pouring too early, so she did find out about it by her own trial and error, but others were already doing it. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I do find the regulations tricky and sometimes it's like a little puzzle to work out what you can do. Not all of my soaps are inside the regulations, just because I may have a different colour choice than my assessments allow (typically the ones I do for the soap challenges) but those I only make 'for fun' and give to friends and family.

I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to be able to do this. At least to take some of the burden off my husband who we just recently found out that he has prostate cancer and is the kind of person who JUST HAS TO BE THE ONE WHO TAKES CARE OF HIS FAMILY. @@IDreamInSoap I have made a couple of batches of cold process soap but just with olive oil and cocoa butter and of course lye. I didn't color it or anything like that. Just simple and it did turn out good. But its all gone now. Its been awhile ago. But even after they cured about 3 weeks almost they still seemed softer than they should've been. I dont really understand the measurements of the oils. And whats the best ones to use. And how to measure the lye solution for the other oils batch. If you don't have time for this it's totally fine. I completely understand. And thank you so much for trying to help me.

I have to try this as now I will have more time. Due to CoVid, our festival planned in May has been cancelled/post-poned and my 1000 soap bars for that festival are on hold. At last count, I had 624, expecting this weekend to crank out another 100-150. But, people at work are buying the soaps as hand washing with soap aids in rupturing the fat capsule of Co-Vid and killing it.
One thing I have learned and thank you, is I like how you wait to add your fragrances to your split batters. I have started to do that and find that it helps in my multi-pour color in preventing thickening of the batter.

Thank you so much Peter, yes it is a worrying time at the moment, make sure you stay safe. With the fragrance, yes it's always the last thing I add, so I do tend to measure and split it to keep my batter as fluid as possible.

Your soap is very pretty and I really love it! One question is how to make the layer of your green wave that such below the sky so vivid and obvious
When I saw you made the wave during pouring colors, the plastic bottle not placed high, the effect is also could be achieved! How is the technique to make it?
I start adding the white soap at the end of the pour so that it just tops the wave. I pour it into the last bit of soap in the jug before I complete the pour for that layer

Hi Alpa, I've never maid taco soap (pretty sure) so I don't have a video for it. Unfortunately in the UK, where I live it is illegal to make cosmetics that look like food (it's the same in all of Europe) as we have the food imitation act. So I don't make soap that resembles food. We can include certain elements as long as it's clear the soap isn't trying to imitate a piece of food, so for example I have done a soap with an orange embed, this is OK as the whole soap is not trying to just look like an orange, but things like cupcakes, doughnuts, taco soaps etc wouldn't be allowed

Hi Christine. Thank you so much, unfortunately I don't really want to openly post my recipe as it's taken me a lot of time and testing to get it just right. I try to share lots and lots of things to help people out. I'm more than happy to help you troubleshoot your recipe though and maybe your technique to see if we can get something that works for you if that would help you at all.
Quite ok, Are you able to tell me what temp you mix your oils and lye. I have recently changed mine down to 25c and wondering if I am going too low.

Hi, I was so excited to try making your wave soap but everything went wrong :0(. My batter either stayed fluid or it seized and went from emulsion to thick trace. I couldn't figure out what went wrong. Then it hit me. My bucket of butters that I forgot to melt was sitting on the other side of the room! I am sooo disappointed. This is the first soap I have made in a very long time. I guess being a stickler for the details did not work in my favor. Now I have to buy another 'beach' scent. I'm not giving up. I will admit watching you do the math made perfect sense until I tried to apply it to my batch. I couldn't figure it out & that's what made me forget the butters. I think I will cleanse my palette & do M&P tomorrow!

I keep watching these pointy soaps and I don’t get how the points come when each layer actually gets covered over w soap. I love the look but don’t see how the peaks actually come! Love

Hey Terri. The peaks are formed by leaving gaps in the next layer as you pour it. The soap you pour in pushes the soap that's already there and if you leave a gap it can be pushed up before you cover it with soap

I love your talent and skill in making soap. You definitely have a creative spirit. One question often soap makers reference recipes using "weight of oil". My recipe has 32 ounces of oil, but the entire recipe adds another pound of water and lye. So its total weight is 48 oz. or 3 lbs. So when you say to add color of 1 teaspoon per pound of oil do I use the 2 # oil weight or the 3 # total weight?
Hi Sue. I always work with just the oil weight. This is for fragrance and colour, you should ignore the water as most of that is lost during the cure, so you want to consider what you will be left with, especially for things that have a safe usage rate like fragrance oils

You make your scratcher out of simple cardboard I saw...they don't get weak when the get wet?
ooh how exciting, i hope it goes well. Yes I often make a scraper from cardoard, especially if it's something I'm maybe only going to use once. They will get a bit wet, but should be ok, if you use stiff card and last for the soap you're making, but they will be no good if you wanted to use them again

I love using the squeeze bottles but my soap hardens too quickly and half of the soap gets stuck in the bottle!

I was watching Tiggy's videos and she mentioned you so I popped over to check your videos out - they're awesome and full of great tips - I'm interested to know why you're limited to 4 colours though?
Hey, thanks for popping over. I love Tiggy, isn't she great. In the UK we have to get all of our soaps tested before we can sell them. We submit a base recipe which has everything in we use for every soap in the exact proportions, cannot change the ratios. Then we have variations on our base, these are just things we can add to the base. Typically for a variation, we can have 5 extra items, so that would be your fragrance oil. any colours, botanicals etc. That for me is where the 4 colours come from, as that's all I have left for my 5 additions after my FO. Once those are set and passed as assessed, you cannot change them at all, so even if you wanted to swap 1 single colour, you would have to get a new assessment done and pay for it. You won't see Tiggy working to such tight restrictions as she was already assessed before these tight regulations came in she has more flexibility and works to a more flexible set of rules (lucky thing), so please don't think she' s doing anything wrong, she does have different rules to work to and does genuinely seem to do so. Ahh, I thought you meant that you CAN'T use more than 4 colours which is where I became confused - I'm the cosmetic safety assessment advisor for Naturally Balmy - we use Scott Grainger for our customer's assessments - with us, the basic allowance is up to 10 ingredients for the base recipe and 5 additional ingredients per variant - we do allow more than the 5 ingredients which is why I became confused - it costs a little more, but it's definitely an option if you wanted to add more - I'm super excited to have another soap maker to watch - I'm hoping to start making my own videos soon too! Hello, I am watching this awesome video once again. You said you cpop @ 170c or 75f? I believe you meant the other way around yes? 75F = 24c & 75c =167f. But 170c = 338f. I would think that is pretty high. Would you please confirm this for me. I've always heard put the oven on the lowest setting, which is 170* in the states. Then turn it off & let it sit overnight. Thanks. I'm excited to try this technique this weekend. I don't want to make any mistakes! Lol :0)

Hi Florence, yes you are right, the oven is just warmed up without the soap in it. So you warm it up to 75C or 170F, when it gets to that temperature turn it off when the soap goes in. You're not actually trying to cook the soap, just give it a warm place to sit. Thank you for your lovely compliments. Stay safe and well :-)

I think I sorted it, something seems to have happened where I tried to do an edit as I got my CPOP temps the wrong way round. I say 170C 75F and it should be 170F 75C, something weird hapenned. So please ignore that bit.

We are restricted with the amount of colours, fragrance and fragrance types, so typically will only be allowed 4 colours in a soap and 1 fragrance, if we want to add anything else, like a botanical etc it would take the place of one of your colours. Then once you have your choices made you have to stick to then exactly, so you can't change a colour or an amount at all, if you do, you have to pay for a new assessment and get that variant approved as well.

I will say you rush one of the most satisfying parts of the making. Cutting the bars. Please don't speed that up.
Thank you for your comment. I think the cutting is a tricky one, looking at the statistics a lot of people drop off and stop viewing once the 1st few bars are cut, especially if the type of design means that all of the bars are similar, but I will bear it in mind :-)
