Hey everyone! Join me as I watch Detective Pikachu for the first time today! This Movie was pretty awesome and funny throughout the whole experience.
Ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son, Tim, to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former Pokémon partner, wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth Detective Pikachu. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces to unravel the tangled mystery.

Aside from the voice acting he did the whole movie, the 30 seconds of ACTUAL screen time that Ryan Reynolds had, manged to still blow everyone else out of the water. So much emotion and chemistry with Justice Smith.
I don't think Mewtwo is ever exactly depicted as straight up 'evil', most depictions of Mewtwo are more like "Mewtwo was experimented on in captivity by scientists and genetically designed to be a killing machine, and it's understandably kinda pissed about that"

Also Mewtwo is a clone of Mew, therefore it doesn't know who it really is, so its essentially just confused and trying to find its purpose in the world. The fact that its so powerful too just adds to the idea that its "evil".
No one thought a film adaptation of Detective Pikachu of all things would work, yet here we are!
They said the same thing with the Sonic movie and look how the film’s are holding up.

This was such a good movie! It's actually based on a 3DS game of the same name! The only real difference is Tim's mom is still alive, and the R was meant to make the Pokemon rabid only and not as a step to being fused with their owners. Also the game ended on a cliffhanger and it wasn't revealed that Pikachu is Tim's dad, but it's still implied.

Fun fact! It's implied that this movie takes place 20 years after the events of The First Movie (which you saw bits and pieces of) - and that movie came out 20 years before this one! And they got little details spot on - for instance, when Pikachu used Volt Tackle against Mewtwo, he was pretty worn out afterwards. That's because in the games, Volt Tackle injures the user as well!
It was such a treat to see this movie in theatres with a crowd full of adult Pokemon fans and still feel that excitement from the first movie all those years ago! So glad you enjoyed it! (And hey, give one of the newer games a try, you might enjoy it! ;3 )
So this movie was very VERY loosely based off of a game, but this film was great fun, they did the Pokémon aspect really well
As for some of the pokémon you asked about; big tongue is Lickitung, the monkeys were Aipom, angry dog is Snubbull, beatboxers were Loudred, 'Vulpix' was actually Eevee evolving into Flareon, and the floating mushrooms are Morelull
One of my favorite funny moments was when Mr. Mime did the smirk after telling Pikachu to shove it.
I love Detective Pikachu, i've both watched the movie and played the video game! although i must admit that when i first watched the film it made me think that if they ever made a live action Pokemon film, i didn't think that this is what they had in mind but i enjoyed it nonetheless.
I just wish they had added a mimikyu in it

This movie had a lot more heart to it than I expected it to when I first saw it. And it’s amazing seeing it again when I only remember parts of it.

I love this movie, it managed to actually be a good video game movie and there’s so many pokemon you don’t even notice on your first time watching it. And Ryan Reynolds is amazing in this! If you’re wondering about Cubone though, it wears the skull of it’s dead mother and is constantly crying which attracts Mandibuzz, it’s natural enemy. So just the standard tragic, dark or scary description that almost every pokemon have.
Detective Pikachu is my favorite Pokémon movie of all time! It is also the very first live action movie in the franchise as well! Ryan Reynolds was so good voicing Pikachu!
The CGI in this movie is just great. It doesn't look like nightmare fuel. And no offence, but I'm kinda shocked you've never really watched pokemon. Still, great reaction

@@madnessarcade7447 For real with Ditto. Nintendo didn't need to give me this information, I was just fine with the animations in the video games where they look normal and not like demon fuel.
But I can't be mad at them, because they also gave me my dream come true scenario, which was the giant Torterra. Turtwig has always been my favorite starter because of Torterra's description of being a large enough mobile continent that smaller Pokemon will choose to live on it, sometimes for their entire lives. So seeing real Torterra that are not only walking islands but are actually the size of entire forests was amazing.

This is a great live action video game movie. Most of the time, live action video game movies aren't great. Love seeing your reaction and I hope you stay safe!
Edit: The lettering on the building and vial are characters seen in the Pokemon anime and games. Also, not sure if you caught this, but when Pikachu says "sweet mother of Arceus" he's referring to Arceus, the legendary god pokemon that created the pokemon world.

I grew up as a Pokemon Fan and while everyone else in my family was always disinterested in it, they did want to watch Detective Pikachu too so we watched it in theaters together, on my birthday that year

I grew up watching the anime when i was a kid and holy crap, the anime is still ongoing, which is just crazy 😳
Then later on i started to play my very first game which was Pokemon Red on the gameboy, just playing as a trainer and making my own team to battle other characters and their pokemon was just awesome. No matter how old i got, i never stopped loving pokemon, and still to this day, even if i'm 28 now, i still am a big fan 🥹
Now i am looking forward to get either pokemon scarlet or violet for this November, i'm so excited! 😄
Ryan was the perfect voice for Pikachu in this movie. You expect a high pitched silly voice then his deep man voice comes out and it’s hilarious.

they made pikachu so cute and fluffy that i want one. If i remembered correctly, Mew contains the DNA for all pokemons and Ditto is actually a failed experiment to clone Mew, which is why it can transform into any pokemon
I watch this movie everyday on my tv when i don't know what to watch
what I really like in this movie is that while there are many instances of the movie putting pokemon on the spotlight, there are also just a boat load of pokemon blended into the background like extras. Really sells the world with humans living alongside pokemon.

As a big Pokémon fan, this movie was incredible because I think it did so many things right.
Firstly the world and context. This isn’t like many videogame movies where the game world is coming to the human world or humans go into this unknown videogame world and have to learn how to survive, it’s an established location in its own universe with its own rules that people just live in. This is normal life for everyone. This is especially cool when it comes to the viewing experience because it doesn’t stop to explain things really. Only briefly describe something relevant to the plot to keep casual viewers in the know but leave everything else to the fans to enjoy. Not to mention the actual set pieces feel real and lived in. Various signs and logos are Pokémon inspired, like a 24 hour cafe having a Noctowl mascot because it’s an owl, that’s cute and makes in-universe sense!
The actual selection of Pokémon is really good too. There’s a bunch from all over the franchise sprinkled in and it’s really great that they didn’t explicitly place the first 151 on a higher pedestal than the newer ones in favour of nostalgia, like Golurk standing outside of police station or Octillery manning a food stand.
And the Pokémon designs them selves are splendid! They didn’t try to redesign any of them like what the Sonic Movie originally tried, they just took the actual Pokémon, looked over its biology, and gave it new textures. Torterra’s weird bear trap mouth is the same, Loudred looks like how Loudred should like a weird blue boom box hippo, Pikachu when standing still looks exactly like Pikachu but just fluffy. Psyduck’s irises are actually white and you can almost see them in close up shots, replicating Psyduck’s normaly tiny black dot eyes while still being realistic. There are few exceptions like Snorlax having semi-noticeable fat flabs on its torso but it still feels faithful to the original and I really appreciate that so much.
There’s even tons more tiny details for fans to analyze and enjoy, like how the Greninja were blasted away by Psyduck’s Psychic blast. This normally wouldn’t harm them because they’re Water Dark Types, unless they had the special ability Protean which gives them the singular type of the move they just used. Since they used Water Shuriken, they become pure Water and can be hit by Psyduck’s blast.
It makes me really hope we get another film in this style because it just feels so right.
I've been attracted to Mewtwo in recent years, so I was glad to see him on rewatch.
Mewtwo is almost everyone’s favorite Pokémon, myself included. It was cool to see it in this movie.

3:16 that pokémon is Cubone and the reason he (and every other cubone) cries is because his mother died, the skull and the bone are from her and, this is a bit sad, crying makes cubone an easy prey for other pokémon, so his life consist of pain and run, and that is nothing compared to what other pokémon do (Sorry if bad english, i'm not a native speaker)

I went to watch this movie in theater with my grandmother, who also knew pretty much nothing about this universe, I actually believe she didn't know who Pikachu was. So watching Cody watch it brings back a few of these memories.
Even people who barely know this franchise enjoyed it, that says a lot about it for a Pokemon movie.
Those who aren't familiar with Pokemon have no idea the amount of references and Easter Eggs there are in this movie.
As a huge Pokemon fan since the very beginning, watching you react to Pokemon you have never seen before and trying to figure out who they are is fantastic😆😅🤣
I just noticed a little detail, the phone he uses at 4:05 looks like the Nintendo Switch, red on the right and blue on the left.
I really love this movie. The way it brought so many Pokémon to life realistically, but still kept them recognizable. Also it's hilarious to hear Ryan Reynolds speak as Pikachu after seeing him as Deadpool. LOL

It’s been 3 years since, I first saw detective pikachu with my brother and his friend at the movie theaters and we enjoyed it.
Love this movie!! Hope it gets a sequel, despite the crazy crap WB is going through!

I love this movie! I strangely feel the “R” gas from the balloon moment was tribute to “Batman 1989”. I cried when Mewtwo told him about his father.
What i love about this movie is how well the cgi of the pokemon is done. Its so well done it actually fits in with the real world. Although we didn’t see the most intense battles in this movie, imagine a full on 6v6 pokemon battle in a future pokemon live action movie

I do like Detective Pikachu! It’s a different approach from the anime feature films but an interesting one nonetheless. I honestly didn’t expect Ryan Reynolds to voice Pikachu but he was a good casting choice for the role.
The realistic approach on the Pokémon designs are mostly good like Pikachu, Charizard, and Mewtwo for example. Though I some others, imo could’ve been toned down a bit more. Overall this is a fun Pokémon movie and thanks for sharing your reaction to it, Cody!

I LOVE Mewtwos backstory, even tho it's the saddest one in Pokémon. He was created alongside 4 other clones in a laboratory, one of them was the clone of a dead kid from a scientist, they where all connected through the mind and the girl showed them the beauty of this world in her head. But soon the clones of the other Pokémon began to vanish and die, she knew she was next and talked to Mewtwo a last time, he begann to cry and was wondering why, soon she also vanished and since they where connected everything arround him fell into pure darkness. Since then he had to grow up in that darkness just to learn that his only purpose is to obey and be a tool. As he learned that, he of course got angry and wanted to destroy humanity. But he got showed that not the whole world is like this and he sayed: "I see now that the circumstances of one's birth is irrelevent,it is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are.” which I really like. What he did after that, just watch the movies xD also fun fact: Mewtwos IQ is over 5000
They gave hints to Pikachu being his dad in minutes of him being onscreen. He was instantly protective of Tim and called him “Kid.” Really is obvious after you know it.
Pokemon don't have healing properties, there are a move or two like Roost and Recover but yeah, you mainly just use medicine "Potions", hospitals, or maybe heal in bits over time like in real life.

For the record, Cody; This movie was 2019, while Sonic was 2020. Sonic came out just before COVID-19 hit the US, and shut everything down. It was the Last Blockbuster movie of 2020

Justin Smith (Tim) was in Jurassic world: Fallen kingdom. and two, loved that huge twist at the end with Ryan Reynolds! Now I am going have to watch it! I used to have the game on gameboy when i was a kid and i loved watching pokemon movies and the original series too! But even with that, I still struggle to recall the types of the pokemon!

I grew up watching Pokémon from the very beginning, all the way up to the current part of the series. I was forbidden from following the franchise when I was young but still pressed on. Eventually the ban was lifted and I was free to be a happy Pokémon fan!

Seen this at the theater on opening night, it was a full house, fans young and old wanting to see for themselves if somebody got it right in bringing pokemon to life. I think there was a sequel in the works, but since the movie got ahead of the games, that ended up being put on hold. Probably also due to the fact that there is supposed to be a live-action series in the works.
I really love pokemon and the live action version of the pokemon in this movie look really life like. The pokemon series and the movies are very, very amazing and cool.

I didn't think I'd like this movie considering how they nearly did Sonic before it was released especially that first trailer however when I watched it with my ex and her cousin I was pleasantly surprised at how well they did the movie especially with the actors comedy and everything in it I absolutely loved the movie growing up in the 90's it was all about Pokemon for me cards games you name it I was hooked however as of late Pokemon has fallen off for me however the cards themselves are an absolute masterpiece including the full arts we had none of that with the old cards great reaction Cody totally loved it have a great weekend ahead of you my friend

I remember being scared that the live action pokémon world would look uncanny and weird, but this movie did great! It's pretty diferent from the anime and this is good! I wish they make a sequel! Or at least, more movies like this, like, a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon movie would be great! (If you don't know, on this franchise of spin off games the player is a human who got turned into a pokémon and lost it's memories, except for the name and that they used to be a human before, and get send into a place where only pokémon lives, so they meet a friend and they start a team to help others pokémon with problems)
Live action Pikachu is way better and adorable than the anime.

This was a great movie. My daughter and I do Pokémon Go and it’s fun watching her recognize Pokémon both in the game and this movie. Ryan Reynolds did an awesome job as pikachu. You should search on CZcams for Ryan Reynolds Pikachu method acting. It’s pretty funny.
