The Yearling Trail, Day Hike in the Ocala National Forest

Hey guys! I really loved this trail around Pats Island in the Ocala National Forest. It gets its name from the novel by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, The Yearling. This land is the actual land the novel gets its setting from, and parts of the movie adaptation were also filmed on site here. If you choose, there are lots of landmarks to scope out along the trail from the author’s life and her book. I caught a few of them, but I mostly just enjoyed the terrain and critters this time. In the future, I’d like to read the book and go back with a plan to catch all those landmarks. If you have time to plan on it, that might be a cool way to approach the hike!

I carried my full pack, gotta work on building up my trail legs. 😊 My 2021 thru hike will be here before I know it!!!

Broke a toe hiking that trail through the sugar sand. Wore the wrong shoes but had a wonderful time with friends and overnight camping. I’m only an hour from there now. Time to do it again in the right shoes! Keep up the videos! Thank you!
