    The tent I’m using for my thru hike of the PCT this year is the Tarptent Stratospire Li. It’s a 2 person, double wall, non-freestanding Dyneema tent with a lot of cool features. So far I’ve spent about ten nights in it. I’ve been meaning to try out the tent in it’s modular set ups (tarp or independent mesh-body tent) for a while....Well I finally did it and made a video about it 😊
    Realistically, I’ll probably use it as a tent 95% of the time on my PCT thru hike, but it was still good to get to know the features of the shelter. I can see myself maybe switching out the mesh interior for a solid interior at some point, or possibly using the tarp without the inner body near home on occasion...Overall, I think this will be a great tent for my thru hike!
    Hope this is helpful for some. If you have any thoughts or tips of your own, please let me know about it in the comments below!

    This is literally the only video showing how to set up the mesh interior! I also like the way you pitch the tent as a whole better. Looks like you’re getting a tighter ridge line that way.

    Thank you so much for showing the modular setup. I was having trouble finding just how it's supposed to work and I really like how you explain it. Thanks again! Well done!

    Thanks for this review. I didn’t realize there were so many ways to set up this tent. You did a great job showing us how you set up the modules. It will be interesting to see if you use these options on the trail.

    Thanks for this video. You have much clearer instructions for setting up the tent with no fly than Tarptent does.

    Excellent video. I've had this tent for about a year. It's the perfect size for me and my husky (dog) hiking partner plus any gear I want to keep inside the tent. I originally had the Notch Li which was nice, but too small.

    Really detailed and informative video. I have a Tarptent Double Rainbow which has been my go to backpacking tent when I go with my kids. I would suggest getting different tent stakes. The hollow aluminum stakes Tarptent provides work great in soft soils but will fail in rocky soils on the PCT. MSR Ground Hog stakes are not the lightest but perform well in many different types of terrain and soils.

      @MilesToGo1  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you for the suggestion! The stakes have worked well for me, but VERY valid point that they may not be well suited for the PCT. I’ll check out the ones you recommended!

    Wonderful review. I have recently purchased the same tent but also got the trekking pole/ grommet attachments so I can use the tips downward. I have Leki poles and am really struggling with getting them into the attachments and the Velcro doesn’t go around them. If anyone reading this has ideas for me please comment. I may just do tips up but trying to reduce mud the top of my poles and figure tips down would add stability.

      Can possible tie a tight hitch into your pole handles that won’t move and then tie that into the cup. The idea is to hold the handle at the cup so it doesn’t move out of the reinforced cup. You may be able to MYOG version of the adapter that fits your handles better if you have the patience.

    Thanks for the very informative review and helpful tips on setting up. You suggest looping the tie-outs around the stakes in advance. Have you considered tying the cords to the stakes and leaving them there? It would obviously require some care in folding and rolling the tent, but you'd have all the stakes in the right places as soon as the tent comes out of the bag.

    Great Video...the best and most precise on this tent. Looks like you're in central Fl.....not sure, but that's the tent I plan to get within the next few months. Subscribed and hope to do the PCT next year myself.....

    Great review. The ⛺️-makers need to address the hacks you figured out! Not many people will have the patience you do for adjusting the tent, especially in bad weather. Wishing you the best on the Trail!

      A tiny piece of velcro holds each of the pitchloc storm flaps closed when you want to.
