I'm hiker trash from 2019 and it gives me all the feels watching your videos. I love watching you listen to your body and knowing when its time to stop and rest.
I was FREEZING for the first 500ish miles in my quilt. Basically until I got a thermal sleeping bag liner. If it doesn't get better id recommend one!
Cant wait to see more, happy trails!

That smile near the end shows how a warm drink and warm meal can lift one's spirits in a way never appreciated in the city. ☺️. Hopefully soon, your Florida blood will get used to those cold nights. Every winter, I visualize some mythical anti-freeze going in my body. Then things don't feel so cold. Except for my nose. 😜. I haven't figured out how to keep the darn thing warm at night. 🤔🤧

I’m shedding happy and excited tears here in Australia. I feel so honoured to be sharing this journey with you. I think you’re hiking an intelligent hike. Take it slow but steady and you will find your trail legs. It’s a lot of miles to go. Enjoy every one of them. Sending you all my hiking strength and energy.

Okay commenting again now that ive actually watched the whole thing - super excited to follow along! I know you said in one of your other videos that you just want hiking as an overweight person to be normal, and in a lot of ways it absolutely is thanks to the fantastic community of people that hikers tend to be made of. But in other ways being an overweight hiker is different, both physically and in our own heads. You mentioned other heavy hikers you've watched on CZcams that showed you how they hike, but youre the first one ive stumbled upon, so youre that person for me right now. Being both self sufficient in my confidence and being respectful of my body's needs are things that are super important to me, and the fact that they are important to you too makes me really excited to see what you share with us on this epic journey.

I'm so happy that you received some much needed trail magic and the comforting camaraderie of fellow hikers. Good that you are listening to your body and hiking miles accordingly. Way to go!! Already looking forward to the next episode!!

I laughed out loud around the 25:00 minute when you said you reached the landmark of the trail with the warning sign of explosive ordinance! Those are just about everywhere out there, even in some hiking places in San Diego. I was surprised when I first cane across this when I moved here in SoCal.

You'll start to sleep better at camp soon, it just takes a while to adapt. Ditch the roll pad and get a Nemo switchback or Zlite as back up. you'll probably repair you Xlite a bunch. get a repair kit and find the leak by dunking it underwater and looking for the bubbles. When able, heat some water and put it in a bottle then a sock. Put it wherever you're cold, it works.

Awesome video. You are really good at this, and are doing so incredibly well during the "shake down" time. You are an inspiration. A suggestion....before bed, heat a liter of water to warm (not boiling!) and put it in a little dry sack against your feet or kidneys. It'll raise your body temp a few degrees. Thanks!!

Grits. A true southern girl!!! Trail name perhaps?? You’re absolutely killing it. If I may offer a tip: If you continue to sleep cold, a sleeping bag is warmer than a quilt any day of the week. Keep it up. We’ll be watching.

My mom, sister and I had a long text conversation about whether you meant “Grits” or “Southern Girl” as a trail name suggestion! 😂 I actually really like “Grits”! . Will keep it in mind if the trail doesn’t provide something decent soon 😊...And yep, got so desperate I thought about taking the financial hit to get a sleeping bag...Ended up finding another solution, but thanks for the suggestion!

I, Pablo, moved to the San Diego area in 1967 and lived there for 38 years, until 2005. Met my wife in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico in 1986. We lived (along with our two young children) in Mount Laguna from 2000 to 2003. It was the most awesome time. I / we (all of us) were / became long-distance runners (I've averaged at least 2.5 hours daily for 40 years); so we spent tons of hours on the PCT. It's now been 16 years that we've lived in Mexico (7 years in the northern State of Sonora; 9 years here in Mexico City). So it's been a LONG time since I/we have seen much of the PCT and Mount Laguna.
What a pleasure and honor to "go back there" thru YOUR eyes and "relive" those wonderful experiences.
I wonder WHERE exactly is that small community of tiny houses? It kind of looks like where we lived; back then it was called the Sunrise Highway Trailer Park. ANYBODY KNOW FOR SURE?
