This fly saved my trip to the Corrib. Seemed it was the only pattern they were going for on my two days there

Hey Davie, I finally found the Fulling Mill site for the U.S. and I had some of the ultimate dry fly hooks that I got from Performance flies a couple of years ago. I got some of the heavy weight and some short shank and standard dry fly 14's (favorite size) sometimes I tie the fly small and take advantage of the larger hook gape to give an advantage in hooking percentage with the gape, keeping floatation in mind of course. It has worked for many of my friends dry fly fishing. The quality of your ties is my ultimate goal. I try to duplicate your flies the way you tie them. I am having some success. I need more time to practice some of your more advanced techniques. Wife is doing poorly and am in hopes she may be with me one more Christmas. Ultimately, it is not up to me. I use a emerger made by myself and I have noticed that if I use TMC 206 BL the fly sometimes don't land in the right position, so I have decide to put a hook more heavy and the result is good, is like you in this fly, the fly comes in the right position for catch the fish.

I didn't get a chance to watch this yesterday but happy Father's day! Hope you had a great one! Davie that has to be the best tied biot body I've ever seen, perfect! That's a great emerger pattern, I really like how you've been tying in the wings on your flies lately, letting waste become part of the wing or pulling it through to separate the wings. Have you used up eye hooks for your drys or wets? I like the classic look they give the fly. I believe there's a technical reasons for using them. I've read in loch fishing a loop knot tied to it gives more movement, more so because of the eye than the knot. Also they are held away from the leader when fishing multiple flies. Especially if the leader is passed through the eye ten the next section of leader is tied in, that section passed through the eye of the second fly and so on. I've never done it but it's supposed to result in less tangles. I know Mustad discontinued there's but I can get #18's from a source has that is all they have left. He who hesitates is lost. I don't remember if Fulling Mill has any, I had a problem getting on the US site a couple of times. What's your thoughts on the up eye hooks and do you know if anyone makes them? Thanks Davie...

As always a nice tie Davie. For a barbless dry fly hook, the wire size looks pretty stout. Do you think an emerger floats better with a little heavier hook than a normal fine wire dry fly hook?

They are slightly heavier than other versions of this hook like you said and they do help to get the fly to sit better...I'm more likely to use a medium wire hook more for emergers than a light wire hook so I would recommend this...I was fishing tonight with these flies and they fished well for me again...

Am I right in my guessing this fly floats about level on the water... not more vertically like a shuttlecock?

It does sit higher in the water as this pattern is more to suit the smaller may fly pattern that come off rather than midge which a shuttlecock patterns would be used for...

If you wax your thread it will strengthen it as well as to help you tye in materials much better making them less likely to come away, also the threads turns grip much better so are less likely to slip..I especially wax the thread when tying hackles and wings on...I'm glad you enjoy the videos...

Davie, I meant to ask in the other post... the hook has a 1X wide gape. Does that make it the gape of a #16, or ???

I would say they have a standard gape which you would find on most hooks this size though 1x would normally mean bigger...

I use Veniards Prepared Fly Tyers Wax which comes in a small disc shape, so I break off a small piece and then I soften it and apply it to the side of my finger as you seen in the video ready to be used when needed..

It will hold a small nymph or wet as I have used this fly many times for doing this as the bubble of CDC gives it a lot of support.....
