"DO NOT DO THIS. IT IS NOT SAFE. source: I am an elevator mechanic with more than 20 years experience.
Edit: Just to be clear, what he is talking about is the car door gate switch. It's a safety device confirming to the elevator that the door is closed and it is safe to move. YOU ARE STANDING IN THE OPEN DOOR TELLING THE ELEVATOR IT'S OKAY TO MOVE. If safety measures fail, however you could easily be cut in half."

Yep, you got a good point there, that's if the outer door interlock is failing and thinks the door is closed.

@@Jamestube8439 hello, mover here with 4 years experience. this is totally safe because all elevators have senors on the doors that prevent them from closing if something is in the way. just dont try this in china

@@RUDY-COLEMAN That's if the sensors even work. I filmed an elevator a few weeks ago and the sensors didn't work. I highly recommend not trying this at all. "If you don't know if you should do something, don't do it at all."

@@Jamestube8439 ive been to hundreds of apartments and this works safely on all of them, i do always have the elevator on service. but i assume it would be safe as long as you do it before the doors close.

Be glad that system had door lock monitoring installed. That's why all the floors cleared out. Had that not been equipped with DLM, that cab could have cranked up with the doors open even though the interlock wasn't made. This is because it's always possible that a mechanic could have forgot to remove a jumper during repairs.
For mechanics, this is why I'm a Grinch when it comes to harmonic (link/arm driven) door operators. On new systems, I only recommend using belt (linear) driven door operators with European style synchronous clutches/skates (i.e. Fermator/Sematic (Schindler 31/33/5500), Wittur AMD/SGV (KONE, TKE), or GAL MOnxt). These door operators don't have gate switches, instead they have interlocks on both shaft and cabin doors, meaning a physical jumper cable is needed for a passenger to bypass both doors. Gate switches are illegal in Europe as per code. The North American code should also prohibit them due to the action entailed in this video.
