  • Here's a bit of "elevator lecture". This has to do with some minor changes to the digital variant of floor counter used by ThyssenKrupp Elevator. In the mid-2000s, the floor counter received an animated arrow, and a new set of alpha-numeric characters. The new character set starts with the classic Dover characters introduced in the 1980s around the release time of the Impulse line of signal fixtures, but with some modifications to some characters. For example, the numbers 0, 2, 5, 6, and 9 were changed. Some letters that ended up getting changed were B, D, G, and L. I personally like the classic Dover characters. I think ThyssenKrupp would have the perfect floor counter if they included the animated scrolling arrow, but with the classic Dover characters and number spacing. The ThyssenKrupp revised 6, and 9 aren't bad, but the 0, 2, and 5 should have been left they way Dover had it. These are my personal opinions.

There is actually a very rare setting that has the indicator arrow remain static when it's not moving as opposed to completely disappearing. I only know of 3 (Wynn Las Vegas, Crowne Plaza Louisville Airport, and DFW Terminal D)

Thank goodness, I'm not the only one that noticed this.

I’m surprised I never noticed the difference

Whether it's the new or older style characters, I still very much prefer these to those "acme" floor indicators with the 16 segment display.

+Darknecros7 You and me both. Acme indicators suck dearly. They're one of the reasons I don't like many elevator modernizations... most mods include them. I can't stand the modernizations at CPCC, for example. They use the Acme indicators, and the cheapest PTL fixtures you can find.

I agree, I've seen some Dover impulse traction elevators that have the impulse floor indicator with a digital floor counter in the center, and IMO those look the best

+ethancedrik I've never seen a high rise Dover elevator in person, though I have seen several videos on CZcams. I think the Dover counter alongside the animated ThyssenKrupp arrow would look best.

I hate both of the 5s, and I like the Montgomery KONE 2 best.

Star City Elevators ThyssenKrupp uses them in elevators around here. I would prefer a KONE 2 and the Dover characters for the TK counters made today.

Does somebody offer a better 5?
