Early New Moon Jacob who respected her autonomy and simply requested that she do dangerous things safely with him was a glimpse of what could have been. There were quite a few problematic themes tbh: Edward being 100+ years old and going for a teen (paedophilia), Edward being technically dead but having intercourse with Bella (necrophilia), Jacob imprinting on a baby (paedophilia again), abrasive pro/anti life camps, casual consumption of donated blood, Bella clearly wanting a poly relationship but smeyer too prude to grant it, werewolf/human relationship (realms of beastiality?), "adopted children" dating one another was just casually inserted. It was A LOT but it has given us delightful content like this so it served some purpose 🤷♀️

As a Brazilian myself I still remember the hype when the cast came to Brazil. The articles from teens magazine (that time the issues was printed) got freaking out... I still have memories of the quizzes like: "are you #teamedward or #teamjacob?" or "which one from twilight are you gonna get marry" kinda thing. 😂

People say “well, imprinting means that you’ll be anything for that person. A friend, sibling-figure, lover etc” so it makes Jacob imprinting on Renesmee okay. But Alice sees that they’ll be together in the future. And Jacob even asks Edward if he should start calling him dad as they watch child-Renesmee run around being a kid. That’s grooming. He’ll act as an older brother or an uncle until she is old enough to date him. And even then, she will be an older teen/adult ( Jacobs age) within a very short time. Even if her brain develops as fast as her body, it doesn’t mean she will have the experience and maturity of that age. Sure, she is stuck that age once she is like 21 in physical age. But for her to get the maturity of an adult will take time. So that’s just a creepy concept

You know after actually seeing this as a 17 year old, this series is a mess but the soundtrack in every movie was bomb. And the fight scene being a vision was so good because in the book, they gather all these forces and then by the time the council come...they just talk and settle things.
I recently read all the books for the first time and after seeing the movies a billion times I can say Jacob kissing her was literally assault and Bella is actually crazy as hell and obliviously awkward the only unproblematic characters were infact Charlie Alice and Emmett 😂

She never actually does anything Bella wants to do, or appreciates who Bella is like.. when she wakes up in that bomb ass dress it's bomb to us because most people like it but Alice knows that Bella would hate it but does it anyways because blue is Edward's fave colour and she wants things in dresses and that. Mind you, when Bella wakes up she's happy but terrified by how alien she looked, scared by how she died and the process of immortality and Alice makes it worse by going out of her way to make her uncomfortable and that's just one instance. She does this over and over again in the name of fashion and stuff, even with her wedding and prom, but it's a bad thing to do as a friend.

literally carlile and esme are the fucking hearts of their entire family. Carlile's power is compassion. He's bound to always be compassionate to every living thing he encounters and that is why he became a doctor. While Esme has the power of love. LITERAL LOVE. She is able to love anyone she encounters passionately although not like how she loves carlile, but platonically ofcourse. Now imagine the stress Carlile has been feeling knowing his entire power is being basically an empath who probably feels every stress, anxiety, and fear of every single person there. And don't get me started with Esme losing the love of her life knowing her power is loving people passionately. I would've preferred honestly if the vision happened because it holds more consequences and impact.

That part always pissed me off. Edward was uncomfortable and felt unsafe during sex and Bella had no qualms about crying and trying to manipulate him into more sex. People sometimes overlook it, but the toxicity of that whole part of the movie would be a lot clearer if the genders were swapped.

They say the movie is bad because it's Christian propaganda because it promotes celibacy before marriage and forced birth (the pregnant person in question is not being forced to give birth, she wants to give birth despite risks and it's other people who want to force her to abort). People take issues when Jacob is angry at the fact that Bella will have sex while human (sure, it's not his business) but when they see her all bruises after the wedding night, nobody stops to think "damn, Edward could've forked her to death, so maybe Jacob did have a point". God, that must've been extremely uncomfortable sex for him specifically. When you consider that, it's also no wonder that people don't care that Bella is pressuring her husband to have sex with her and not respecting his autonomy. I could go on about how people have no issues with Edward while having issues with Jacob, how Jacob "chose" to fall in love with the baby (when it's fact that magic forced him to imprint) etc etc

I have to say, literally everything you had to say about breaking dawn pt 1 is spot on. The ending is straight up traumatic, I can’t believe it wasn’t rated R. This whole series is a hot dumpster fire, and I fucking love it. Is it hella problematic? Yes. Is it weird as fuck? Also yes. I grew up loving twilight, and it’s honestly been nice to revisit it with a critical lens and be able to identify the bullshit, but still be a little nostalgic ya know?
If it wasn't for the wedding scene, i would've gave the movie 1/5. Breaking Dawn Part 1 is my least favorite Twilight movie but the wedding scene in the first 15 minutes? Yeah, that was a good start
