    'I am still not quite clear about whether the quality of goodness or evil is an outside agency, or forces existing in the world, or only a projection of our own thinking.'

They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'

    Rather surprising to hear him say that these forces exist outside in the world which implies that they are also independent of us. A very unusual type of answer from K.

      We live in a duelistic world , like day n night, light and darkness . If there is a positive aspect of god there is a negative aspect aswell , but understand the analogy here please. Darkness has no existence of its own, I mean it cannot be created it's just the absence of light. Likewise evil is nothing but absence of god in people who achieved a sertain level conscious Ness and are just reaping the fruit of Thier accumulated past merit in this life and totally forget who made them, that is exactly the definition of evil forces in my opinion is and nobody wishes to discuss about it fearing damnation. One last thing, evil also does good to us if you introspect, it's only the ways it choses to correct us are undesirable.

      sundheep9 Agreed. Thats what light is! Its self effulgent. Wherever there is no light the other is....! (But not on its own)! And as the Light is ever present, the other is only present in state of illusion..!

      BehindDesign Its not at all complex. What you dwell on the most, you give the most power to. In particular, in today's world, we have the most powerful information age ever known to the world. And its being used to spread fear, anger, resentment and hate, rather than love, joy, compassion and fun. What do we give the most power to, not love, but fear. So what do you expect. You reap what you sow. But every road has a turn and the world will again balance itself, with or without our help. We are not the only specie on the planet.

    The known is made up of opposites: You cannot have light without shade, up without down. They are necessary to each other. The separate self exists in time, in the known, in this world of opposites. Only when it ceases to exist is true goodness known and sorrow ends. Trying to reform the world by increasing its goodness is often a source of evil.

    I think he says that everything leaves kind of an energetic thace, that you can feel and that can influence you in a certain way. But personally I think that what is evil to one can be good to someone else, so good and evil is always subjective therefore it does not exist.

      Well, maybe philosophically or in an abstract and inconsistent level you can sustain anything, but not in reality. I dare you to think that a killer which ends the life of a young kid may have caused some good to the life of the murdered or the family. Let’s be honest please.

    Re. *goodness Vs evil.* A similar question about immaterial or metaphysical realities is, "are the laws of science and the abstract mathematics on which those laws are defined, invented or discovered?" Naturalists and atheists like to think, or perhaps demand that such laws are just an invention and exist only in our brain chemistry. On the other hand, Einstein said we should expect a priori (on naturalism) a lawless, lifeless *Chaos* rather than a *comprehensible, miraculous* universe.
    I conclude as Galileo did, that abstract "mathematics is the language God used to write the universe." It would be fair to say that all the pioneering scientists expected law in nature b/c they believed in a Law Giver. As such, these metaphysical truth are not just a debatable dichotomy like goodness/evil. They are not merely a projection of our own thinking but the creation of an outside agency.
    I suggest we all know that goodness/evil exist b/c of our innate sense of moral values . However, we cant really say there are any associated laws or math' formulae that define them. I equate the concepts of evil and goodness, with beauty, joy, morality, truth etc. All of which are abstract realities that cannot be isolated in a test tube.
    Unlike J. Krishnamurti, I do believe that ALL these metaphysical realities have one thing in common: they define our humanity and exist in our thinking because we are created by the same outside agency that created them. This would be an insurmountable problem for naturalists if ultimate reality is just mindless electrons and protons.

    There is something regarding how good and evil relies on the perception of it but that then still leaves room for to what extent an action is self-centered

    Yes it is. JK sir doesnt want to explain it further. Evil exits. JK answered it precisely. Sometimes, some facts have to be silenced & left in the dark, as it will begin to tremble our vulnerable mind once we come to know about them. And that is the reason, the nature hasn't awarded us the sense of reading other's mind. Had it been, the whole humanity would be at conflict.

    • @BehindDesign
      @BehindDesign Před 5 lety +2

      And not just by reading other's mind, there are also things unrelated to humanity that exist and could be called evil. This question is very complex and give rise to unexpected questions.

    I don't believe that K is talking about an empty house, but rather the atmosphere that can envelope the inhabitants within a house. This atmosphere is generated by their own psychic interactions, such as bullying and silence and hidden motives. Or openness, welcome, trust and communication.

    • @lucreziamorganti9115
      @lucreziamorganti9115 Před rokem

      Exactly what I understood. When he gives the example of an hours with bad or evil atmosphere, he is in fact talking about someone who had been living there and committing something wrong like violence or murder, so actions that cause bad energy like terror and sorrow as a consequence, and these can maybe remain somewhat attached to a place, not that there is any evidence of this being a rule that always happens. It should be a more studied and researched subject.

  • @lucreziamorganti9115
    @lucreziamorganti9115 Před rokem +2

    Sorry but I think that the only explanation for existence on its own of good and evil that he gave, that was referred to entering a house in which you perceive something wrong or bad energy as external, is actually related to some kind of sad happening like murder or violence, causing as consequence bad energy that maybe remain attached to the place, but still originated from a real person. Same would be if you imagine a ghost inside a building, scary and everything but still a person without the body who is suffering for some reason.

Thus beyond the simplistic material or psychological way some replies have misunderstood K here. Certainly not in tens at all of some emergent property in any science presently can explain
