Thankyou soooo much for uploading this ...I absolutely adore Orlando Fifes narrative, a very balanced view and A* star scholarship..a veritable feast for the mind..♥️👋🏻
I always assumed that Russia was the first amongst equals in the old USSR....in fact I used to use the USSR/ Russia interchangeably ..as one and the same thing ..Vice La Revolution 🙂

Started reading this book today and stumbled on this video- syncronicity. Astounded that there has been no reference to the 100th anniversary of the Revolution on US or UK media

Mr. Figes, I really think you have a point about the elections 1996. That was the only moment when the West could have done something different. In Romania also the Post-Communists came back to power by elections and failed enormously so that they are completely discredited now. Something similar happened in Slovakia and other places. Against such a backward looking national-communist government a strong opposition would have been formed, genuine political parties would have been established (not such fake parties like "United Russia") and the civil society would have formed itself much stronger. It would have been also hard for those communists to control the media. Anyway, Russia would have looked different if things would have just gone their natural way.

Russia's turn for criticism, take your 'what aboutism' where it belongs ; on clips of those NATO nations followed up with the tired tropes.

Interesting why Eastern values are better than values taught somewhere else... Maybe it is the case that value system is different there, so it will take more to understand it rather than saying that you are wrong and we are right...
