I was plsying the studio cut on the family stereo one day in 1969 and my dad walked in the room and stopped for a minute and remarked. " thats very nice " over the solo section that was playing. I cant remember him ever doing that on any of my music during that era.
I spend a lot of time saying this, and I will spend a lot more time saying it. I first heard the music of the Doors in January 1995. My father had just hit me with an ultimatum that I had to learn to play guitar or piano instead of bass or he would sell my drum kit. I had chosen the guitar. If I had heard the Doors' music one month sooner, I would have instead chosen the piano because of Ray here. I'm also a keyboard player today, but I don't prioritize it the way I do guitar, and I am still struggling to measure up to what Ray laid down on the Doors' records. The big irony for me came when I had only been added for a few years. What are my mentors twin nephews was already on his way to becoming a far better keyboard player than me and had the intro of this song nailed. Yet, I remember this guy turning to me for Intel about how Ray played the bass line with his left hand. I didn't feel like I was equipped to instruct him, but I think I somehow did.

Any real musician or music lover will find the DOORS a goldmine of superlative tracks. If not they are no friends of mine as they say.
