  • Video showing the location of the transmission pressure control cable adjustment on an '87 2.3.
    My cable is actually not as tight as it should be, the arrow on the black arrow indicator should be in line with the groove on the white adjustment nut. However, my car has a 2.6 transmission, and it shifts the way I would like it to. Clockwise tightens the cable for later upshifts, more likely to downshift when you floor it ("performance"). Counter-clockwise loosens it for earlier upshifts, less likely to downshift when you floor it ("economy").

    I couldn't thank you enough. The whole adjustment business became darker and more mysterious as I continued reading about it, including the MB manual. Thank you, thank you and thank you. Much appreciated :)

    Thank you for this. I foolishly fiddled with the adjuster on my 190E 2.0 and turned it countless times. Now my car holds first gear until the valves are screaming for mercy :-) Tomorrow I can hopefully get it back to normal.

    What is this cable called does it have a part number?
    Mine is sooooo loose and the black clip won't stay in place.
    Could this cause the car to stall pulling up to junctions?

    When I turned this knob on my 190e, all i've got was harder shifts - especially when i manually downshift. The tranny really clunks! I always had the problem with the tranny reaching the 4th (and final) gear before the car is doing 20mph. Really frustrating, since i have to force the tranny to shift down again. It automatically shifts to 1st gear if i almost stop the car, and the kickdown works just fine..
    Any suggestions? :-)

      Bjørn Storm Lillehaug It sounds like there may be an internal transmission problem in that circumstance. This adjustment should mainly control shift timing. The vacuum line running to the vacuum modulator is what is supposed to regulate shift pressure.
      Have you ever replaced the transmission, and have you confirmed whether or not adjustment of this cable actually makes a difference in shift pressure? It's entirely possible that the metal rod that this cable connects to inside the transmission has popped lose and this adjustment is not actually doing anything. You can confirm this by disconnecting the cable and verifying if there is much tension pulling it back in. It should feel like about as much tension as a throttle return spring from what I recall.

    My 2.6 190e won’t shift into 4th? All the other gears are smooth! 60mph at 5k rpm!

      @@RustyLuke sounds like it - hard to say offhand what it is, could be something in the valve body. Might want to get a copy of the ATSG guide if you want to tackle it yourself.

    Where does the throttle body spring go? The spring that moves throttle valve.

    • @nfsjunkie91
      @nfsjunkie91  Před 2 lety

      The main spring for the throttle body on a North American 2.3 is connected between two tabs with holes that are closest to the driver's fender. You should be able to find a diagram online as well that should illustrate it better.

      What is this cable called? Mine is so loose and the black clip just slips round.
      Could this not being adjusted right cause it to stall when pulling up to junctions?

    Hi,can this screw adjust, now car rolling forward in idle,thank you film

    • @nfsjunkie91
      @nfsjunkie91  Před 2 lety

      I may be misinterpreting your comment, but if overtightened it's possible that a transmission that previously started in 2nd gear is now starting in 1st gear. 2nd gear start was typical of earlier 190s with a higher numerical axle ratio. If you floored the gas pedal they would kick-down to 1st gear from a stop. Later cars with lower numerical axle ratios started in 1st gear by default.

      If the shift points are dramatically different for the 1>2 upshift compared to 2>3 and 3>4 for the same pedal position this adjustment likely wouldn't fix that. How much of a difference is it in terms of RPM? How does the firmness of 1>2 compare to the other shifts?

      0:16 up where that throttle spring is,, there is a like a metal moon shape grove slot, as seen in ur vid.. Mine is stuck in the middle and not at the end like urs,
      The when I push to throttle it's just lock and does move..
      So I am asking how to get it release back in the correct spot
