Thank you for your video. I have a 2016 BMW X5 and no air is coming out of the vents. All I hear is air behind the dash, what can it be?

You may have a selector flap stuck, it could be due to a failed actuator, or it could also be due to a failed linkage, with a proper scan tool you will be able to actuate each clap door and look at its position feedback to tell if it is moving or stuck, let me know how it works out, but before you do that, check your settings over carefully, you could in defog mode or floor only

nice video, do you happen to know where is the heat exchange sensor ? and how many are there ?

    • @MechaniclifeJDM

Thanks, not a lot of information on this one online, but from what I can see its in the HVAC plenum, you may be able to access it by removing the top center speaker and the HVAC controller. If not, full dashboard disassembly may be required, which is not for the faint of heart. The number of sensors depends on which HVAC system options the car is equipped with. Here is some good information: www.xbimmers.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1982577&d=1548965227
You can also see a picture on bmws TIS or RealOEM (parts site) search by vin. Or visit your local BMW Dealer, good luck 👍🏽

@@MechaniclifeJDM Thanks, I recently have 9C5C when I used BimmerLink, and the description of the code is "sensor heat exchanger right" . Initially I had the symptom of blowing hot air on footwell while the dash AC vent is blowing cold, and the passenger side AC had weak blow. So I thought it might be the heater control valve, so I ordered the part from FCPEuro to replace, and the problem was solved after installation and erasing the code. But the problem reoccur after a few months, so I thought it might had been a defect Heater control valve I had, so I repeat the installation with new part in hope to get the problem address. 9C5C is the code keeps popping up which alert me the problem might be something else. So this time, I suspect it might be the heat exchange sensor right side. The only video I found across the entire web is this (czcams.com/video/a4NHihjs6Ek/video.html&ab_channel=Slowgan), and a post (www.bimmerfest.com/threads/right-heat-exchanger-22699-degrees-f-2016-535i.1415641/). Hopefully what I found can help someone with similar situation.

Thanks for watching and commenting, it still works great; However, there is a very faint ticking when its cold out, once it is cycled up to the medium range for a few seconds its quiet until it sits overnight again but only in the cold

this might be the worst x5 blower motor replacement. didn’t show how to do anything, 10 minutes of yapping 2 minutes of real work. thanks for wasting my time

Sorry you feel that way man, but I was actually headed out when I made this video, just did it real fast to help others with some of the sticking points, whats odd is that most other comments are positive for this video, so I wonder what the issue really is. With some basic tools and hand skills this job is no problem, the video is meant to supplement those items. Maybe a coloring book with pop ups would help out, will keep that in mind.
