  • Join us as we spend the whole day at Icy Strait Point, Alaska. The area is broken into three different sections. You walk to Wilderness Landing where you can catch a gondola to Sky Peak or you can walk to Hoonah Cannery. We started our day exploring Hoonah Cannery and went through the museum and gift shop. Past the Hoonah Cannery we went on a beautiful 1.5 mile walk to the village of Hoonah. We spent time wondering around the town and watching a totem pole being made. We then took the shuttle back to the Wilderness landing were we then took the gondola to the Skyglider gondola. We the road the sky glider gondola to Sky Peak. At Sky Peak we had beautiful views of Glacier By. We then went on a guided hike around hidden loop trail to hidden lake. We then ended the day going down the ZipRider, which is the world's largest ZipRider, with six 5330 feet zip lines dropping 1330 feet. Joint us as we give you a tour of this cruise stop location.

    We did the zipline on a rainy day. They provided goggles to keep the rain out of our eyes. It was amazing!

    Forgot to ask what time of the year were you there? We are from Australia and will be there on the 3rd Sept so wondering what to pack?

    • @TravelingAtoZ
      @TravelingAtoZ  Před 3 měsíci

      We went Sept. 4th. I recommend dressing in layer and bring a rain jacket. It rained most days. The nicest day was when we were in Icy Strait and it was probably 70 degrees (21 C). Most of the trip was around 58 degrees (14 C). When you are cruising by the glacier, the wind blowing off the glacier is ice cold so I would recommend a warm jacket, hat, and gloves.

      I don’t remember if they weigh you or not. If they did it was were we received our tickets not at the top by the ziprider.

    Going to be there in September!
    Can someone tell me what type of facilities are available at the top of the gondola run?
    I'd like to go on the loop trail but my wife can't and would wait for me. Is there a gift shop, restroom?
    Thanks.

    • @TravelingAtoZ
      @TravelingAtoZ  Před rokem +1

      At the top of the gondola ride they have a restroom, and outdoor seating area, and a place to buy drinks. There is not a lot to do up on top. I think they are trying to build and expand. I am not sure if they are adding more this season or not.

      We bought the zip rider ticket through the cruise ship. I recommend booking your slot as soon as you can. The zip rider ticket allowed us unlimited access to the top of the mountain via the gondola.

    I like your video and your daughter is darling, but when watching it we are looking for information on the port, not long shots of her. Also don’t appreciate your coarse language. I know I will get criticized but not all of us enjoy it. Otherwise we enjoyed the rest of your video.

    sadly mispronouncing "huna" "hoonah" "xunaa" as "hookah"! in the first part of this?! Two times! Also stating that Hoonah is a part of icy strait. Not so much. Icy Strait is a part of Hoonah. This woman's take on Icy Strait and Xunaa is a far cry from its rich history.

    • @TravelingAtoZ
      @TravelingAtoZ  Před 8 měsíci

      I did realize I mispronounced “Hoonah” unfortunately I didn’t realize until I got home. The only way I could try to correct in the video was by highlighting the name in red above for reference, which I did the two times I mispronounced it. I did’t realize Icy Straight was part of Hoonah and not the other way around. Thank you for the information.

    Alaska is gorgeous. Love that little town of Hoonah. The Falls are lovely and I love that history of the Cannery. Oh the views from the Gondola. I've heard of certain areas of Alaska that you have to have a guide to hike through. That ziprider looked like so much fun!
