  • Please join us on our visit to the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau Alaska. It is a breathtaking sight! We viewed the glacier from two of the trails. The shorter trail is to "Photo Point", the longer trail is to "Nugget Falls". We also went up to the visitor's center where you can view the glacier from an observation room. It has a telescope set up for anyone to use. The rangers also let us touch a 200 year old piece of the glacier...it was cold and wet....and we also viewed a 15 minute film about the glacier and the delta region.

    Very well done video! Interesting to see my town (26 years now) through someone else's eyes. I retired from the Alaska state ferries and afterwards drove a tour bus for 5 years here in Juneau. It was fun sharing our sights. We have 300 miles of trails here in Juneau. each one a true gem. By trail we have access to three other glaciers besides the Mendenhall and each is as awesome, in different ways. Thank you and come back again!

      Thanks Mark, I intend to come back, its a beautiful part of the world. We are planning to tour the Norwegian Fjords this summer, that will be interesting, and different. Thanks for the comment!

    it's crazy how much the glaicer has changed, you can barely see it now from nugget falls!

      TheMouseFan, the Glacier is a must see, and the trails are nice, enjoy! Consider the Salmon Hatchery or Mt. Roberts as well if you have enough time for both. Thanks for the comment!

    I always like it when youtube suggest videos of Juneau. It’s neat to see other people’s perspective of the area. My son worked for costal helicopters for his summer job and we had an opportunity to take the heli tour of Herbert glacier. We got discounted rate but if you have the funds ($300) I would recommended going to anyone visiting the area. The views from the ride were amazing.
    We actually live on a small island outside of Juneau and see whales every time we are on the water. That would be my other recommendation is a whale watching tour. If you have the money. You are guaranteed a sighting of a humpback and on a rare occasion a pod of orcas.
    That’s for spotlighting Juneau’s Mendenhall glacier. It’s really a spectacular sight to see.
    Enjoy the rest of your travels.

      Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! We took a whale watching tour...we saw one whale, and it was just the tail end for a moment....a little disappointing. I would love to do the helicopter ride but I'm a little scared of crashing, I think they had 2 accidents this past year in Ketchikan. That part of the world the nature is so unspoiled and beautiful! We plan to go back. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

    thank you for the concise yet full details, it was helpful to see what people are wearing and hear your description of what to expect for the Nugget Fall walk vs hike. Confirmed for me sneakers are fine no need for Hiking shoes when we head that way in September 2019.

    Our cruise ship was medium size, so we were able to sail right up to it -- although the top edge of the glacier was much above the ship, we saved a lot of energy by viewing it from inside the commodore club with a champagne in hand. On a separate day we stopped in Juneau, where the tour we took was the float plane over the five glaciers just to the south of Juneau--- On a Havilland Twin Otter where everybody has a window seat-- great, but expensive.

    Just there in May 2109. Spent too much time in the visitor center and outside deck facing the glacier so was unable to hike to Nugget falls. Liked your narration...very informative. Request permission to use a small portion of your view of Nugget Falls in my upcoming video. If not, fine. Means I will have to go to Juneau again. No off to see some of your other videos from this trip.

      Hi rg, go ahead and use the portion of my Nugget Falls...if you can give me a "shout out" to my channel....either in your description or on the segment you use, I would appreciate it. I just watched the White Pass train ride...we did that in Skagway, it was beautiful! That footage was lost when my hard drive crashed, unfortunately! So I will have to go back too....good luck to you!

  • @zulfaz71
    @zulfaz71 Před 4 lety +1

    Very informative video! Thank you. I am wondering how long did you spend over there? I am thinking to book an excursion that include this, Salmon Hatchery and Salmon Bake and it only gives us 1h 15m to spend at this place, do you think is it enough? TIA

    • @TravelwithTikkiO
      @TravelwithTikkiO  Před 4 lety +1

      Ambo Z, if you want to hike to Nugget Falls you will need more time, but to Photo Point it should be enough time. Sounds like you are packing a lot in for the day, but it will be wonderful. The visitors center has a movie, you might want to skip that if you are short on time. Also, sometimes the weather doesn't permit walking to Nugget Falls, so you would be disappointed if you go and then the trails are closed. Have a great trip!

  • @gomphrena-beautifulflower-8043

    I thoroughly enjoyed this as I’ll never get to visit Alaska. Kudos to you for NOT mentioning “climate change” and how the glaciers will disappear yesterday. (I’ve had it up to here with all that nonsense, can you tell? I didn’t even want to include it in my comment but i had to tell you how wonderful your production is.) Thank you!
