I have stumbled onto a very useful video to help me learn a lifelong hobby a lot more seriously, and i today picked up a sp25 mk3 Idler T.T. in a very delapidated condition. Your videos will help serve the vintage/ vinyl/ analog community to move forward, saving one piece at a time. I find it very comforting people who work on hi-fi gear have knowledge recorded as you have,
It's a brave new world but our vintage gear will last centuries as the techs fix more gear that was lost to time. Thankyou for your videos, im glad to have this as it needs everytbing you have wisely directed.

Thanks to you I was able to repair my Garrard SP25 MK4 whose arm was blocked. It was the same part that was stuck with a clump of old grease.
Cheers to you. I have a mkiv version of this and have same problem with auto start. You may have just helped me finally problem solve mine. Top man

I hope to purchase a New Zealand made Pye Stereomaster 4006 with a Garrard SP25 Mk4 Turntable been fitted (Originally these had a Mk2) Thanks again Love seeing you skilfully bring these Lovely units back to life , appreciate the trouble you go to to make these videos.

This takes me back to my first job at the age of 15 back in 1965, working in the electrical department of a department store in Norwich. We used to sell what was commonly referred to as "Radiograms"
We stocked Pye Murphy HMV and Dynatron radiograms and the odd all in one compact record players.
It's odd thinking back that we didn't worry about tracking weights and record surface noise on records, perhaps it was because the frequency response of these units was quite poor compared to the Hi Fi Units of the day.

I still have a Zenith stereo cabinet with no innards apart from the 3 way speakers. I do have a period deck unit and I had planned to fit some vintage hi fi inside. Another day perhaps.

Good old days.
All the chart stars of those days listened on these old players.
The lack of bass is most noticeable, but the midrange - vocals, really stand out, which makes records sound exciting.
I agree, no one cared much about the crackles or the setup, as long as the record rocked.

Ah,the good old days of HI-FI stereo records players.Fond memories of a Dual stereo player i had,i also worked in a department store,electrical department/work shop .No stress fun days .PEACE.

Great vid! I've recently acquired a Citronic Hawaii console with twin Gerrard SP25 Mk IV's (looks much the same as the Mk 3 inside) which i'm looking to return to it's former glory. Great to see a detailed view of how this can be done. Thank you!

@@nickadams5411 - It's in great condition - been very well looked after but hasn't been used for many years so the the generous owner has passed it on to me. The Garrard's mechanisms needed a good clean to remove all the 'gummy' build-up, which has them functioning correctly. Just need the electrics checked and, if need be, serviced then will be good to go! Cheers, Rik.

I apologise if this has been mentioned before, but after you turn the idler wheel on the lathe, doesn't that reduce the playing speed of the player?
Hi Nick, very good vid, just bought a Garrard SP25 MK3 off ebay , the seller said it was working ok , when I tried it , it was skating across a old 45 which I use for testing purposes, and also when connected to my amp, had lost a lot of base/treble quality , do you think it requires a new cartridge, and if so what type and supplier? I think you would have to fit this before sorting out the tracking problem, Ian H

If it skates across the record, the stylus tip has probably broken off.
I like the SC12M (BSR original made in UK)
But you may have to improvise the fitting into the headshell.
If the cartridge is ok, try and get a new stylus.
What did you use to Clean the rexine around the record player ?I have the same model and the rexine is very dirty .also my bass knob seems pretty much unresponsive .but it has a shot cartridge and someones bodged in a modern stylus so that woulnt help matters as far as bass goes .
Hi Robert. As far as cleaning the cabinet, I have tried a few different cleaners used on full size car interiors. For instance the CarPlan "Stain Valet". I use a stiff brush or even a toothbrush on stubborn stains. All the best. Nick

hi there the metal tab on the auto start cam how did you free it up i have the same problem with my MKV :) ?
Hi B. I show how to do it in another video, but not sure which one. You have to heat it with the tip of a soldering iron, until the grease melts and you can pul it apart to clean and re lube. Or heat it in an oven. Wear gloves to prevent burns when handling.

Hi Flip. The deck will depend upon the quality of the cartridge. The sound can be good with a decent amp and speakers.

I have a garrard sp12 mk11 deck i am in the uk i want a perspex lid for it can anyone help i would pay shipping and 15 or so pounds for lid of course.

Yes, I did reduce it a lot by several cleaning applications, but why do people not clean up spilt drinks etc.. Also some cup ring stains on the top, were reduced by a lot of polishing.
