Hold on i got my yoyo at the dollar store and it used to be able to sleep even though you said that dollar store yoyos cant sleep how do i fix this problem
One more thing, the string is REALLY important too. I had a Duncan Imperial that wouldn't sleep properly and I fixed that by changing the default string for a better one (polyester).
yeah i have an imperial right now, and it doesnt sleep at all. i used to be able to do it easily. i just recently got back into it. maybe i will change the string and see if that helps
Sometimes the axles on those yoyos are not perfectly smooth, so it is difficult to get them to sleep. Other times the halves of the yoyo are pushed together too close so that the yoyo won't sleep. You can try pulling the halves apart a little and see if that helps. Still, if you are interested in learning tricks I would recommend you consider getting a ball bearing yoyo. They sleep much easier and much longer than a butterfly yoyo so tricks are easier to learn. I could recommend one if you like.
I believe you can, it seems like you can do the same thing as others have done with their DV888. I know there are videos on youtube that show this. That being said, if you are thinking about getting a Genesis to try this I will say that the Genesis with Hubstacks plays much better than the regular Genesis and is worth the extra money. It has a Center Trac bearing and the weight is distributed differently which is a big improvement.
The only yoyo that currently allows for two different sized bearings is the Flipside. The Velocity uses a size A bearing, which does make learning to bind easier. It may be a good idea to hold off getting a sized C bearing yoyo until you feel like you are hitting your binds consistently. If you force yourself to play unresponsive so you have to bind every time it should come pretty quick.
Thanks dude this helped A LOT! I bought a brain yo-yo for 2.50 and I didn’t even know it was that type of yo-yo. I felt so good because it came back up every time I threw it (even throwing it the proper way) but I was frustrated because I couldn’t get it to sleep. I used your tips and they didn’t work because I never knew how much force I had to use to throw the yo-yo so it can sleep while at the bottom of the string. I also have a dave and busters yo-yo which I got and I can’t identify which yo-yo it is but it sleeps well with the string that I used to have on my brain yo-yo, but it didn’t sleep for very long. Im going to purchase the velocity yo-yo that you guys have on your site and use that. But for now, I’m going to keep watching your yo-yo videos and learn until I master it.
I've got two of the same responsive starter yoyo (YoYoFactory Spinstar). The one which still has the original string sleeps and performs as expected. I replaced the string on the second Spinstar and now not only will it not sleep (at all) but it doesn't require me to do anything to get the yoyo to return to my hand instantly. So it's not the yoyos but the string that is the problem. How do I loosen the replacement string?I've tried unpicking it large enough to put it back on the yoyo without dismantling it but the string retains its kunfu grip on the plastic bearing.
watching old videos after gaining much experience remind me about the time when i used to struggle in learning each and every basic creek if i compare my condition now its rather easy to learn trick one's the throw is right up straight.... But this makes me feel like I am giving less and less efforts learning new tricks... Like if I don't hit the string (early days) I used to practice and practice to make it better... But now.. Sometimes I used to skip the trick in which I feel difficulty... 😁

I made the mistake when I was younger to do just what you said is common with beginners and ball bearing yoyos. I put the string on wrong and never realized that that was why my yoyo wouldn't sleep anymore. I used to have a FAST 201 model (2 actually.) I've always liked messing with yoyos though, and I want to get back into it, even if I don' do any advanced tricks. So, I've gone and ordered another FAST 201, this time in Red. I'm glad to know that you guys thought so good of it.
We do not like the design of their yoyos. Most of their designs are based on very old yoyo models that were not that great to begin with. Most magic yoyos sleep okay, but they are just not great for learning lots of tricks.
My yoyo was about 3$, it was sleeping fine, like it slept for ages and then boom, it didn't sleep anymore, my friends use this yoyo, they do around the corner, walk the dog, around the world and even rock the baby, once again, same yoyo

My Duncan Butterfly wouldn't sleep 3 out of 5 times but then, in the process of trying to learn string tricks, I found that if you gently push your finger against the string right after you throw, the way you might if you're going to do a bind, the Butterfly sleeps 4 or 5 out of 5 times.

It is nearly impossible to find a good yoyo at a store. Best case scenario, if you can find a yoyo with a ball bearing axle that should get you started.

New to yoyo, just got your first 50 pack with the sage. I've noticed that if I throw it too hard then the yoyo doesn't sleep. I checked the tension (taking off my finger letting string hang) but this still occurs. My interpretation is that this is due to the elasticity of the string causing the yoyo to come up and catch just enough to wind up. Is that correct or is it something else like with my form? If it is elasticity, then does the elasticity go down with wear? I'm currently focusing on just getting yoyo to sleep straight, not throwing hard or complicatedly.

The only thing I can do on this thing consistently is the trapeze, but if I try to throw a sleeper it just flies right back to my hand so I can't rly do stuff like a braintwister or stuff that needs a sleeper. out of the box, my imperial has never slept when i threw it. it just bounces back. i checked for a knot, there arent any. i tried loosening the tension, stilll wont work. when i try the ufo, it just comes back up. any more tips?
Ohh maaa gawd thank you man, for me the fix was just pulling yoyo apart, putting it back together, untwist the string and put it back on a yoyo. Probably from all that twisting the string got a bit too tight on the bearing. By the way - does anyone have any cool tips how to get rid of the bruises and would recommend a good helmet for practicing?

The Grind Machine unscrews like most any yoyo these days. If the spacer is stuck to the bearing (which may be the problem you are having) I suggest you lookup the YoyoFactory video about removing spacers from bearings. I would not worry about getting the Black arrows lined up.
hey there is a way to make a cheap yoyo sleep. just open it up, take out the string and make sure it is not in between the two parts. usually you may need to get a new string because the string that it comes with may not be able to wind up and you can't seem to leanr the snap up or bind.

I have a cheap arcade yo-yo but I have gotten it to sleep a few times. Sometimes it sleeps for just a second then comes back without me tugging. I can't consistently do it, though and I don't know what's wrong with my technique.
Hello. I'm a starter and I'm trying to learn some string tricks from your website. I'm planning to buy a new yoyo and I need your advice. Which one is better, Velocity yoyo or the Sage yoyo? I hope it can be easily changed between responsive and unresponsive. (I'm not ready for a yoyo that is only unresponsive. I hope it can be responsive somehow.) It looks to me that Velocity yoyo is easier to adjust the responsiveness, but the Sage yoyo seemed to be more popular. Which model do you recommend?
Kyeong Yoon Baek The Velocity is easier to adjust, and the Sage is more popular, as you said. The Sage can also take you further than the Velocity. I think both are great options, and I am sure you will be happy with either. If you are looking for something you can quickly and easily switch, go with the Velocity, if you are looking for something that can take your further once you are ready, go with the Sage Pro Pack.

my dads 'traditional' so I have a duncan :( I really wanted something else. I bought the fast 201, but that wont sleep either. What yoyo should I buy, as since I live in the uk, the delivery costs on yotricks are HUGE! It is 15 dollers for the yoyo, and the same for delivery!

Yotricks how long is the string used on the yomega brain. I got the beast wrangler and I need to increase my string length.
String length has nothing to do with the yoyo, the player adjusts that themselves to their own preferences.

that might be because your not throwing it with enough speed so it doesnt have enough energy to stay stable , try throwing harder

When its in the sleep time, it starts tilting after 1-3 seconds, yea
It is normal for a yoyo to tilt when it is not spinning quickly. As your throw improves you will see this happening less and less.

out of the box, my imperial has never slept when i threw it. it just bounces back. i checked for a knot, there arent any. i tried loosening the tension, stilll wont work. when i try the ufo, it just comes back up. any more tips?
Would you recommend the Yomega Raider for a starter to intermediate-level player?

Ohh maaa gawd thank you man, for me the fix was just pulling yoyo apart, putting it back together, untwist the string and put it back on a yoyo. Probably from all that twisting the string got a bit too tight on the bearing.
By the way - does anyone have any cool tips how to get rid of the bruises and would recommend a good helmet for practicing?
One more question: do you have any idea about how to open the grindmachine,so i can see the bearing and stuff,and after that how to allign(i think that s how it is supposed to be typed) those black arrows. Thanks a lot for the support so far,you are really a profi!
The Grind Machine unscrews like most any yoyo these days. If the spacer is stuck to the bearing (which may be the problem you are having) I suggest you lookup the YoyoFactory video about removing spacers from bearings. I would not worry about getting the Black arrows lined up.

hey there is a way to make a cheap yoyo sleep. just open it up, take out the string and make sure it is not in between the two parts. usually you may need to get a new string because the string that it comes with may not be able to wind up and you can't seem to leanr the snap up or bind.
I have a cheap yoyo but I think I'm going to purchase a fast 201 because I saw the best yoyo of 2015 video and you talked about the 201 so I think I'm going to try it out.... Any tips for when I get it?
+WatsonGaming If you can already make a yoyo go down and come back up I would suggest you get the Sage yoyo instead of the Fast 201.

I have a cheap arcade yo-yo but I have gotten it to sleep a few times. Sometimes it sleeps for just a second then comes back without me tugging. I can't consistently do it, though and I don't know what's wrong with my technique.

Hello. I'm a starter and I'm trying to learn some string tricks from your website.
I'm planning to buy a new yoyo and I need your advice. Which one is better, Velocity yoyo or the Sage yoyo?
I hope it can be easily changed between responsive and unresponsive.
(I'm not ready for a yoyo that is only unresponsive. I hope it can be responsive somehow.)
It looks to me that Velocity yoyo is easier to adjust the responsiveness, but the Sage yoyo seemed to be more popular.
Which model do you recommend?
Kyeong Yoon Baek The Velocity is easier to adjust, and the Sage is more popular, as you said. The Sage can also take you further than the Velocity. I think both are great options, and I am sure you will be happy with either. If you are looking for something you can quickly and easily switch, go with the Velocity, if you are looking for something that can take your further once you are ready, go with the Sage Pro Pack.
Oh and also I have 4 yo-yo's and this helped me out a whole lot!!!

my dads 'traditional' so I have a duncan :( I really wanted something else. I bought the fast 201, but that wont sleep either. What yoyo should I buy, as since I live in the uk, the delivery costs on yotricks are HUGE! It is 15 dollers for the yoyo, and the same for delivery!
The Fast 201 can sleep. If it is not sleeping most likely the string is caught between the spacer and the bearing, like we describe in this video.

i have a yoyofactory velosity how is that is it a good yoyo?
I have a Duncan IGNITE.I just unboxed.Learned the powerarm and forward throw.But when i try to sleep,it wont work.Also what does a know on an axle look like.Please help +yotricks
+John Doe (TheSpy101) I have not tried that yoyo myself, but my guess is that it can sleep. Most likely your string is caught between the yoyo and the bearing.
