Theo and Bee gave up their busy city lifestyles in 2014 to explore alternative living, and have lived in vans and boats since then without looking back! Along with their cat Ginjey Bear they have been driving around the world in their self converted Sprinter van. However, when the global pandemic hit they began converting their abandoned stone barn in Central Portugal to turn into a wonderful tiny stone cottage. Along the way, they have rescued a playful cat called Furrnando and have a wonderful flock of Chickens!
Bea, you remind me of my daughter, so kind and determined, articulate and visionary. You also have a style similar to hers, and I love your look in this video, especially the jaguar jumpsuit.
And how lucky is miracle mountain to have the two of you as caretakers. A match made in heaven which this will be with you both reviving and revitalizing this amazing property.

As an engineer , I applaud you for doing the necessary work on your pipe culverts and drainage channels. Many times those are neglected and can result in a lot of problems.

You are so blessed by all those fruit trees. Even if you lost 50% (you didn't), you are still years ahead of having to plant new orchards, like most people have to do.
Wait for late spring before you give up on the "dead" trees, you may see many more that made it through the fire. :)

What a humongous job clearing the flood damage! What a shame so many of the fruit trees died but you two will conquer that problem eventually! I think you need a dog to share your adventures with and to keep Theo company when he is out and about - of course the kitties will have to be included in a decision like that!
Bee's smile is intoxicating in this video. I almost cried. Theo is different too. So much more relaxed and genuine while conveying what they're facing with the consequences of the fire. I own large scale property. I understand how Mother Nature can rob us of our joy at times. I know this property was perfect, but time helps us accept unwelcome changes we're unable to control. The learning curve is quite steep. Congratulations on the research and hours of study you've devoted up to now. You two are very brave and demonstrate an exceptional level of fortitude. 🤗😘🤗
Having watched Sep Holzer teach about water storage, you may want to try one more diy effort for the lake. It will require that you have an excavator. Taking the excavator bucket and pushing it across wet clay soil will have the potential to seal the lake bed. Downward pressure with the rounded side of the bucket being pushed and pulled across wet clay will create a "slick" and compact clay barrier that will be virtually impermeable against water migration. Of course you may be on to something about having to first remove the brush and grass and any ash/sediment.
I can recommend the less painful way of testing the fence using a fence tester 😊

I just wanted to give you a possible solution that might be a bit cheaper for the lake. In the oil field when we build giant water ponds we use a felt membrane to hold the water.

Theo is sooo smart. I was so surprised when he had said he had grown up with a learning disability. I was amazed because he is sooo smart. Great job beating the odds, Theo. Love you both and all your critters.
A learning disability is no measure for intelligence. That is a misunderstanding of learning disabilities that needs to be corrected. Psychology is uncovering so much more. Exciting times to be alive. These two young people are simply amazing in courage and heart. ❤️
a learning disability has nothing to do with intelligence...but I understand what you were trying to say :)
As a former teacher it is good to let people know that to be diagnosed with a learning disability you must be above average intelligence. Many people who are LD are highly intelligent. It just means they learn differently and many times struggle in school where teaching is geared to how the majority of people learn. That's why many people who struggled because of their learning disability are highly successful once they get beyond the school years. Hope I explained this clearly.

Reclaying might not be necessary. You just need to redo the bottom. Traditionally it involved putting heavy hoofed animals into it with a bit of water so that their hooves churn up the clay and create a new waterproof clay layer without cracks. Ben Law described it in his book when they built the a-frame house in the woods. He even got loads of people in there trampling the wet clay.

Rotateing your goats pasture also helps to avoid internal parasites and is really good for your goats health!

Theo you need to dig a large burn pit with the excavator Chuck in the trimmings and burn on safe less windy days, protects from cinders spreading. Collect the ash and mix in garden soils or compost pile for nutrients…

she's the cutest! It's still quite hard to tell, but there are definitely large swathes of utterly dead trees :(

Always use the back of your hand to check if the power is on. If the amperage is to high it forces your hand closed and you won't be able to open it up until power is shut off, it could kill you.

We bought a commercial grade brush cutter a couple years ago to do work on our woods. It is an absolute joy to use. It would take me 100x more time and effort to do with lawn grade tools.

At the bottom of lakes are a large amount of leaves and muck which looks a lot like ash, but is really compost.
