- It's the battle of the budget films: Fuji 200 vs Fuji 400. With them being so close in price, which one is the best for you? We took these two films out to test them shot on a Canon Elan 7, Ilford Sprite, and we pushed some to see how that would affect the color.

Im liking the results of 400 over the 200
Nice to see a very accurate comparison! Also nice to see how well they did being pushed! I’ll have to try that out sometime!
Love the comparisons! And thank you for pushing them!! 😍😍
Got that little jingle stuck in my head! Nice video and thorough comparison!
Glad you liked it!
the side by side comparisons were so helpful! this video was full of great info!
Great comparison video, guys! I like how you kept a record of both your exposures to show how shooting different ISOs affects aperture and shutter speed. Great for those learning photography in general. The SLR results were so similar with the two films that I found it hard to tell the exposure differences. The 200 speed film gets the edge in color saturation. The Sprite cameras really show the differences in the 2 films. The 200 speed film works well in bright light but does suffer more in low light than the 400 film. Thanks for the comparisons! Also I never pushed film before, so thanks for showing us how that works! 👍🏻
This was a great comparison and very informative! I'm still trying to figure out which I personally prefer to use in which situations. Definitely need to shoot even more of these stocks
That was interesting! Thank you for conducting this experiment
15:38 is such a good photo. Love how 400 looks pushed and I may have to try it out myself! Great pictures!
Great video, love the side by side comparisons!
Fun video! I’d love to see a comparison video of something like, Kodak Gold 35mm vs 120.
Usually I lean towards 200 but after watching this, I really enjoyed the way the 400 shots turned out.
thank you for the video! It was nice to be able to compare the differences
Nice! I've got a three-pack of 200 I ordered from yous guyses last month. Now I've got a much better idea of strengths and weaknesses.
I absolutely love 400 for portraits and landscapes in all seasons, but there is something really special about 200 in sunny weather. This was a wonderful comparison video!!
I've been wanting to check out these film stocks (I've only shot in BW so far) and this video was super helpful for figuring out which would be best for me. I personally like the 400 results better!
love the side by side comparisons!
Great comparisons! I always keep a few rolls of 200 on hand for reliable stuff to shoot outdoors. Definitely going to be pushing it a little more after seeing this.
Great video I quite liked the look of the pushed film by 1 stop
I think the 400 brings out the most definitions to it's pictures
I've been shooting both while learning, and I like 400 so much more. Colors feel punchier. 200 gives more of that "film" vibe many people are after though. Great video!
They definitely have their reasons for different situations! I really enjoy 400!
Was surprised by how much I liked the pushed 200 shots!
Have yet to try shooting with the Fuji 200, but I’m glad I’ve only really stuck with Fuji 400. Thanks!
Loved shooting 400 on my Minolta X-700! It’s such a nice inexpensive readily available stock for anyone getting into film cameras and experts alike
Great comparison, 400s always my go to unless I know it’s going to be bright and Sunny. Just gives me that extra flexibility!
Good comparison. I keep whatever Superia 400 I have in storage now since it's no longer available. I often forget that we are in the same state so it's nice to see some photography that's not in NY or California. There's not enough street photographers in Florida, most folks here want to do cars or portraits. Thanks for this video and I'll be on the look out for more deals, you guys had ProImage 100 on sale the other day and I had to grab a box because I really like that film.
I also have two Canon Elan 7's which is a great modern SLR.
Nice! I picked up 4pks of the Fuji 200 for next year frugal film project when it was on sale. Thank you all.
Great video. I kept going back and forth-"oooh yes! 200" "oh wait, 400!" and now I want to try a Sprite camera :)
400 will always be something I lean towards when I’m not trying to shoot something too specific. The pastel tones and contrast have worked in most lighting situations for me and remind me of the photos I would see from my parents cameras as a kid.
400 hands down. Exposure latitude seems to be better. Skies are not washed out and saturation is good. The 200 did better pushed to 400.
I'm gonna go ahead and get some 400, I really liked the results
Just ordered a point and shoot and was wondering what speed to go for. Thanks for all the comparisons!
Great comparison. I love shooting both
This was super helpful!
Love this camera comparison cuz it's hard to tell what film will look good with a Kodak M35!
Thanks for the video!
Great comparison
Have shot both of these with great results! Miss superia but can't argue with the price point on these
Nice comparison, thanks! I’m thinking I like the 400 just a little more. It seems a bit more like a fuji film whereas the 200 seems closer to Kodak Gold.
It was tough to tell, but I thought the 200 had a bit more richness to it. Thanks for doing this guys, this helps a lot for film newbies like me
Our pleasure!
I like to shoot the 400 at 200! It gives it such a nice bright & pastelly tone!
I just ordered a 3 pack of 400 so hopefully they'll all turn out well. Still getting the hang of my Nikon N80.
I like the contrast in the 400. I need to try it out in my Holga.
I personally prefer Fuji 400 over Portra 400 because of the difference between prices and what you get from them, I’m just recently start trying Fuji 200.
I’ve always loved Fujifilm- I am a big fan of Fuji 400😊
I need some for my upcoming trip to NYC so 🤞
Fuji 400 is my goto, all-around good film and a constant price. I dig.
Love nerdy tests like this! Fuji was always my favorite film. Is this really made by Kodak?
The 200 looks warmer and overexposed by 2/3 of a stop, the 400 1/3 overexposed. That's what I think.
I like your videos, that's why I keep coming back.
400 speed is the way to go on these gray Ohio days - Nice comparisons.
Definitely. It wasn’t as sunny the day of filming as we had hoped, but that 400 speed was great for the cloudy day.
Great video
Fuji 400 pushed to 800 looks absolutely incredible. It’s the only way I’ll shoot it
400 looked a bit better early on but i think the 200 as a bit over exposed. Though the 400 overall still just seemed to perform a bit better in the shadows.
Love me some 400.
what would be the reason(s) to push film? and are you pushing it in camera as well as film processing??
Pushing film allows you to get additional shutter speeds or a more narrow aperture when shooting. You essentially underexpose the film by one stop while shooting and develop it longer to make up for the lack of exposure. It turns an 800 speed film into 1600 in this case and the colors still look great!
When shooting i tend to shoot 400...reason why i dont really have one. Maybe for the fact i have more wiggle room with light and its still good to shoot during sunny days
Another great video! I always wonder about random processing experiments like the greatest number of stops you've pushed different stocks for someone (and how things turned out?!?) 🤔😀
How far can you push film would be a great video!
@@reformedfilmlab I would love to see that!!! 😀
It really surprised me how much of a difference there is
Which would be best for portraits of Tiger King?
Hmm, probably the more contrasty 400 😎
Were these rolls scanned on the Noritsu or Fuji scanner? Something has changed with either the base, emulsion or both with these films compared to the same film from a few years ago. I was looking at scans I did in 2019 and the colors look so much better back then compared to now where these film seem to have an underlying red/magenta color tone. I'm pretty sure Kodak is making this film now. The giveaway to me is the base of the Fuji film is very thin just like the Kodak films. I don't know if you guys are having problems cutting film on the Crown Film Sleever like I am. The cutter blade struggles to cut all the way through the film unless you pull the cutter handle with a whole lot of force. A lot of times the film does not get cut all the way and you have to manually cut it with a pair of scissors which is a real pain in a**. Great job comparing these two film stocks!
Scanned on the Noritsu scanner. We have also noticed the change in material making them harder to cut in crown sleevers.
@@reformedfilmlab Thanks for the info on the scanner. Look forward to the next video!
Video suggestion: how to pack and ship film. Bc God I had a horrible experience.
400 speed is the best
how is she shooitng at slower shutter speeds on the 200 and still looking more overexposed than the 400? I think you are mislabeling somewhere
Good breakdown there! I develop film not feelings!!
I personally don’t like the new fujifilm switch to the American manufacturers, if it is Kodak making film for them it really limits the market in terms of competition and will inevitably lead to bigger price hikes from Kodak, which has been a huge issue for a lot of people the past few years. Don’t get me wrong I do love the way the film looks I just can’t get behind the fact their sourcing out their production to a different company, I might as well buy ultra max or color plus if I want to shoot 200 or 400 speed film, Fujifilm is really known for its performance in nature and its vibrant greens and blues, but if their no longer manufacturing it then what is the point in buying fujifilm.
Great observations. Hoping Superia does come back!
Ooohhh please pick me!!!
Something about Fuji 400 just looks a lil more juicier 🤌🏽
