    I made pot roast in my IP yesterday- different seasonings but cooked the same exact time for meat & veggies. (I didn't sear as this was a dump & go recipe) I also left the "keep warm" on for about 2 hours afterwards. OH MY it was so tender & moist! And the carrots & potatoes were perfectly cooked. Don't be afraid to leave it on the "keep warm" if it isn't supper time yet! :)

    Looks like tomorrow’s dinner! Thank you for the recipe. A note: if you don’t press the “keep warm” button to turn off, the instant pot will keep cooking even while it’s doing a release. I don’t know if this is different for different models, but that’s how my duo is.

    Excellent video. Thank you for ALSO posting written instructions. Many times presenters recommend specific ingredients that are hard to catch even after repeated rewinds. The few Penzy spices offered on Amazon are very expensive but the "beef" spice is listed as "unavailable". I can’t believe you actually told us what was in the blend so we could try to replicate it. I bought the Duo 60 PLUS ($69 Amazon Black Friday) but tried to cancel in order to get the Duo 60 ($49) because it listed accessories. I bought the Duo w/1 minute to spare on Black Friday (panic unneeded as price remained for another week). I was informed the next day the PLUS had already shipped. So now I've been sent BOTH models & need to decide which to keep.
    I wanted the PLUS because it had the cake & eggs settings. But I didn’t get the model shown in the ad. The one I got also included a “sous vide” setting. It also had the steam trivet & condenser bowl so all that was missing was the spoons. Many YT presenters insist it’s not necessary to upgrade from the Duo as the manual (or "pressure cook") setting is what is most used. Today I will be getting my $17.99 Amazon order for 12 IP Accessories which includes the 3 pc Divided Steamer Baskets, Egg Rack, Egg Bites Mold, Silicone Spoon, 4 Magnetic Cheat Sheets (that attach to the pot), Food Tongs & Silicone.Spatula. It was a great price at $19.99 but when I put it in my cart it included a $2 coupon. This is the link: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07M99XYGJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Love this! If u have leftovers, put enough water in a frying pan just to cover the bottom sit 1 to 2 servings of roast and veggies in the water, cover, bring to a boil momentarily, and reduce to low for two minutes. Then remove the lid, increase to medium, and cook until the water is almost all gone. It will all be tender again. I tried this method with a tough roast, and it still did the trick.

    Thanks for a well done video. You explained every step so that even a 'rookie' like me could follow and understand it. Also, if you like your potatoes and carrots extra soft, would you recommend adding them when you begin to cook the roast?

    • @Tessknadler
      @Tessknadler  Před 5 lety +1

      You could add them at the beginning and they would be softer for sure. When I make stew in the IP, I cook meat and vegetables for the same amount of time and it turns out great.

    I added flour to the carrots and onions stirred it good then added the meat back to the pot. I only did another pressure for 5 mins because I like the veggies just a tad firm. It came out perfect, didn't stick to the bottom. It was delish!

    You can put the veggies in on top wrapped in foil and then put them in the juices afterwards and cook it or simmer it for another 10 minutes, but you really don’t even have to do that or you can use parchment paper and wrap them up if you don’t like the foil. But that’s one of the things that I do. Or that I have done. They taste fantastic

  • @CW-up7xv
    @CW-up7xv Před 4 lety

    You're correct they do get mushy if you leave them in for a full hour. However you can put potatoes in, uncut, for an hour and they won't be overcooked.

    For a richer sauce/gravy, take out the beef and set aside - leave all veggies and liquid in the pot. Create a 1/1 corn starch slurry (usually 3 tbsp on corn starch to 3 tbsp of water) and add to the remaining liquid. Add a packet of au jus mix and put the instant pot on sautee, maybe 4-5 (out of 6), which is medium or medium high. Stir in the slurry and the au jus and let simmer for about 5 mins.
    You'll be left with a MUCH richer sauce.
    I always shred the beef on a cutting board, too, using two forks. I then place the shredded beef back into the pot with the gravy so it soaks up all that amazing sauce.

    I did notice when you tasted the meat you then put the fork that you had put in your mouth back prodding the rest of the food. I have to say even my family would not like it if I had done the same. Other than that I enjoyed your video and have for the first time cooked a beef joint in my instant pot that I have only just been able to get here in England. I love it and have the 8 qt as I have a large family. I have been guessing the cooking time, but did not give enough time so the beef was still raw with blood oowzing out, so had to put it back again. I have just tested and it is cooked, so I have put my peas carrots runner beans and broccoli on top, but the Broccoli came out overcooked so I have done more separately in the microwave. Other than that I am very happy with it.

    I have the instant pot 8 quart duo, just FYI you do not have to cook your vegetables for 10 minutes after you cook your roast, and they can be cooked with your pot roast, and the good thing about the instant pot is that they never get mushy!!!

    Was cornstarch added to the remaining liquid to make a gravy?

      Sandy Collier I did not add cornstarch to make gravy, but that’s a good idea!

    I thought you have to natural release meat for 10 mins before quick releasing? I always put everything in at the beginning and then natural release because I don’t want tough meat but if I can quick release that would save a little time!

      Cat K Quick release is fine for a lot of meat dishes, including this one.

    If you heat the liquids first it will take less time to come to pressure.
