Super Adventure Rockman, Ep. 1 (PlayStation) Playthrough [English]

- A playthrough of Capcom's 1998 interactive movie for the Sony PlayStation, Super Adventure Rockman.
Each disc functions as its own independent game, so this video covers the first episode, "The Moon Temple."
Episode 2: A Fight to the Death! Wily Numbers ( • Super Adventure Rockma... )
Episode 3: The Final Battle ( • Super Adventure Rockma... )
Since the game never saw an international release, I've subtitled the video with my own English translation of the game's dialog and text.
Following in the footsteps of Street Fighter II Movie ( • Street Fighter II Movi... ) and Fox Hunt ( • Fox Hunt PS1 Complete ... ), this FMV-based Mega Man game was the third interactive movie that Capcom released on 32-bit consoles.
Super Adventure Rockman is based on the characters of Mega Man 1-3, and it's built on the back of a three episode OVA series that Capcom commissioned specifically for the game. The story was also later adapted for Archie's Mega Man comic series.
Taking place in 20XX, the story begins as an earthquake deep in the Amazon reveals the mysterious ruins of a 20,000 year old civilization. The ruins start emitting dangerous waves of electromagnetic radiation, and Dr. Wily seizes the chance to claim the power as his own in yet another misguided attempt at world domination. Roll has already been affected, and if Mega Man doesn’t stop the evil doctor, all humans and robots will be wiped out within two weeks.
The gameplay follows the "choose your own adventure" template. As the FMV clips play, you'll be presented with quicktime events and your choice of paths to take whenever you hit branch points, and your inputs at these moments determine which clip you'll see next. You also encounter enemies at certain points, and you'll fight them in gallery shooting minigames (think Lethal Enforcers) that encourage you to make use of the weapons you've scavenged from the battered bodies of your fallen foes.
It's a neat relic from a time when multi-disc games came packed full of heavily compressed video clips, and though the gameplay is nothing special and there's little in the way of replayability, Super Adventure Rockman is a fun way to experience Mega Man from a new angle.
The quality of the animation is fairly cheesy but servicable - it's in keeping with what you'd expect from a typical VHS OVA release - but I loved how closely the style adheres to the look of Keiji Inafune's character art from Mega Man's NES era of games.
Super Adventure Rockman also bears the dubious distinction of being the only game that Inafune has ever officially struck from the series' canon: he apparently hated how far it strayed from the tone of the games with its fixation on death and its generally bleak tone. I suppose that's his prerogative, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit.
I hope you guys enjoy the show and the translation!
(Please note that I had to cut the intro theme, "Electrical Communication" by Ganasia, for copyright reasons. I replaced it with the intro music from Mega Man X4.)

NintendoComplete (www.nintendocomplete.com/) punches you in the face with in-depth reviews, screenshot archives, and music from classic 8-bit NES games! - Hry
So Capcom once made an FMV Mega Man game. Crazy, huh? Hope you enjoy the translation!
Btw, speaking of Capcom I have a request
Any chance for you to release this translation as an actual rom hack? That'd be amazing!
@@Yaerveth The translation is merely video edits, but honestly, it would be cool af if NintendoComplete collabs with a ROM hacker to make a translation patch
Interesting how they took the gameplay from Dragon’s Lair and added their own shooting gallery levels. I think it works!
@@YaervethI wish I had the skills to do that, tbh
despite this being the "creator's shame" of the classic series due to it being darker depressing & "not as fun to play" due to it being more of an interactive-movie then game im so glad this is being translated and i can finally fully experience it for myself. heck ive already watched this part at least twice already
In an interview, Keiji Inafune said that this was his least favorite Mega Man title because of people & robot masters actually dying in this game, including Roll.
Wonderful translation and gameplay! I’m glad you’re giving this movie game some love. It’s a definite black sheep in the MegaMan/Rockman series, but I can’t help but be fascinated with it. I like the focus on Beat, how the MM1 bosses are your allies, and that they kept MM8’s Japanese voice actors.
Thanks! I really liked it too. It feels so exotic compared to just about any other MM game I've played.
It's cool to see Wily and Light chilling out a little.
Finally! A subtitled version of the Japan-only Megaman video game! Now I can see and understand what's going on!
Im really impressed with how much you tried to keep the translations to fit in with the game's graphics and display.
Great job.
It's also oddly fitting that you used music from Megaman X to prevent being copyright struck, considering how serious those games usually are and how this one strays from conventional Megaman plots
Thanks!
Even if he doesn't get much screentime here, seeing Metal Man is pretty nice. But then again, he's my favorite robot master from MM2. Overall cool design he's got.
Finally, a gameplay that actually has background music included.
Imagine IF this game got localized for Americans, but however, the Mega Man 8 Eng cast returns. God it's unbelievable and unbearable to think about it.
Maybe it was a good thing this game was never localized
0:35 No Electrical Communication (by Ganasia)? Oh man!☹️
Yeah, unfortunately the copyright scanner didn't like that. The Ganasia song that plays at the credits is still there, though. I subtitled the lyrics.
@@NintendoComplete don't be coward.
@hanzowh Well, aren't you just a delight? 🙄
Copyright's always a bother, but hopefully the international Megaman 8 intro/ending themes should fall under the radar and fit a bit better...
@@hanzowh People have already uploaded the original unaltered, so go watch those with Electrical Communication.
Thanks for the translation! Would be cool to play the actual game this way but being able to watch this anime as a Megaman fan is really awesome since I never knew this existed. Thanks for all the hard work!
Oh wow I just watched till the end, so mega man kills other robot masters in this? Well that’s different… I mean in the games he does that too but here it’s taken so seriously 😂 in the video games he’s just destroying all of them without a care in the world but here he’s crying and sobbing about quick man getting “killed” it’s kinda funny
31:21
Nice……just nice “Crash Man”…..☠️
This is the darkest Mengaman Game I've seen in my life oh god
The Blues Shield is OP.
while there's definitely a lot of charm in the ruby spears mega man show, this makes me wish it actually had looked like the official classic artstyle
I never knew this was even a thing! It utterly trumps the Megaman cartoon from the late 80s/early 90s. The voice acting is solid. The animation quality is on par with a lot of OVA from its time, but it still doesn't look bad. I especially appreciate the art style for being closely accurate to Keiji Inafune's original artwork for the NES games - Much like "Rockman: Hoshi ni Negai wo."
Also, I like how the OP animation was just Megaman getting the shit kicked out of him.😂
Great translation work. Sucks that you had to remove "Electrical Communication" just so you didn't get DMCA'd. It's a great song.
Thanks! Yeah, that did suck. You can still hear it in the background at the very end, though.
This version is actually pretty quite good, I like it
Thanks for the translation as well
Cool game, very much on the obscure side as Mega Man games go!
7:30 Damn Roll really just got ignored like that😭
Its the same opening theme used in mega man x4
NintendoComplete edited it in to avoid the copyright filter
MegaMan X4 intro theme 😂
I am more like Mega Man in my personality. I relate more like Mega Man. Shy, timid, creative, fun, curious, calm, smart, determined, and brave.
R.I.P Quick Man a robot that mega man will never forget 😭🥹
i'm going to Completely overhaul the story of this game to make a Fangame on what if Super Adventure Rockman got a 8 Bit Reimagining, titled Megaman Ra-Mix
A Incredible Interactive Adventure Rockman Game!
Error as he Mistaken Flash man as Crash man.
Quick man being the Honorable dude... With a Soul Sacrifice...
Yeah, Thus it Alienated Inafune's Canon, He was kinda harsh with it and so have i, Due to whats to come in Next Episode...
He didn’t mistranslated Flash Man. That’s how they say it (for some reason).
@solarflare9078 Yeah, Bad script error.
Y’know I always wanted to ask you this.
Do you consider this to be one of those type of mega man games that sometimes tends to go a bit dark seeing how intense the story is for sometime
Yeah, it's def willing to wade into territory that most of the series actively avoids.
@@NintendoComplete I thought so because….this is quite an interesting lore if I ever saw one….and I thought mega man X has deep and dark lore then the og Megaman
28:17 What did they say about him?
31:20 No Mega Man, that's Flash Man.
But Capcom she said upcoming super adventure rockman 2 and rockman 2023-2024 😮
Yeah ,brother 😮😮😮😮😮😮😊
The Mega Man game that Kenju Inafune hates for being too dark, and I can see, as classic Mega Man is supposed to be a lighter series, while darker content is mostly reserved for spin-offs like Mega Man X and Mega Man Zero.
X and Zero are sequels.
Sometimes I wonder if Dr. Wily is dumber than he acts.
I Love Mega Man, He is My Favorite Character
Ah yes, the disowned 3-episode Mega Man PS1 game that was Japanese
-only.
The Mega Man saga is shit NOWADAYS.
Lol. Bayou Billy NES!!
Is Super Adventure Rockman Sequel to Rockman 8 or 3?
Anyway this is one of the games i wanna play in english
I think it takes place after Mega Man 5 since Beat is in this game
13:37 It's all about ze Mets 😄
They say it's the worst Mega Man game and i say no, not even close.
This game was supposed to be released in North America and Europe, as Super Adventure Megaman in English, But nope. Shame on you, Capcom!
this looks like it could pass as an OVA
This was a 3 episode OVA series commissioned by Capcom
@@solarflare9078 was it? i just assumed it was an interactive video game which are common in Japan
buenas maniobras megaman adventure todo con metal blade dio ko 3 robo masters buen video
30:39 Why would u kill those frogs?!
31:21
you translated wrong here
it’s Flash Man not Crash Man, Crash Man is in ep 2
I know it's Flash Man, but I was subtitling what the characters were saying. He says Crash Man.
@@NintendoCompletewas he ?
Flash and Crash do sound very similar in Japanese, albeit unintentionally...
That should have said “Super Adventure MegaMan.”
Ainda não passamos da marca de 20XX e, já está surgindo robôs e o início da IA, acho que Kejin acertou, rock & roll blues & forte, eles ainda virão a existir
This game marks the 25th anniversary

38:40 WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR
Good game
Pero ese juego va después de megaman 3 y antes de megaman 4 o que
It really surprises me to see how much ignorance there is among the comments!
I don't know whether to laugh or cry ...
About a _game_ ?
Dude....
MYMEGAMAN
How did I never heard of this game?
It is something most Americans would not hear of unless they read the internet or video game magazines that feature games not released in America, as I heard this was not well recieved and was disowned by Infaking himself.
Japan only
@@solarflare9078 I know but it's a bit shocking there is a Mega Man game almost no one has heard of
@@CarBitGTSaxen Wily & Right no Rockboard That's Paradise! is even more obscure imo
