Right on about culture. I met my wife because she is pretty, I continued to date her because of her personality, but my decision to propose to her was sealed when I experienced her "culture"... hearing her testimony, going to her church, socializing with her friends, assessing the quality of the people she keeps close company with. And I know she was doing the same.

I agree 100%. This man is right on because it’s biblical counseling. We need to learn to define beauty the same way Good does.
It's spot on where you say "It cost more of us" to recognize true beauty, which is seeing God's ideal as our focus. It's also very wise counsel to request the input of a trusted believer as a third party to offer their view on a person one is interested in dating or is already dating.

I love this video. It brings all the right things together. Unfortunately all of us are already been culturalized so for those who are looking for the right mate will need to undo that learnt behavior and then realign themselves God's way.

When I studied Psychology in college, they say that statistically, women are more attracted to men with personalities that are very close or exact to their father. That fact makes me not want to date AT ALL, in FEAR that I will end up with a man just like my father.

Currently I'm in the process of determining who to pursue as a partner, I can say wholeheartedly that what I want, more often than not, is nowhere near what scripture describes as a godly woman. The heart deceives and mine definitely does.
Hearing this also makes me consider whether or not I'm an attractive man when compared to the qualities described in the bible. I realize that I also have to be a godly man so that God will lead me towards a godly woman.
Brother i agree with your thinking and approach to wanting or finding a godly woman and on being a goldy man. Like the scripture says, "Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised." In the scriptures, it shows that Jesus Christ did not have an attractive appearance. i cannot speak on behalf of individuals who want to be married, but i can use myself as an example, i would rather find a godly woman, than a beautiful woman who says that she is a follower of Jesus Christ, when she really is not. Plus the outside appearance fades away. I want to make it clear for our brothers and sisters, do not be one-sided, read the scriptures for yourselves. There is an order for God's people, we must continue to nurture the body of Christ, to be good stewards. The time is indeed short everyone, may God be with you all, Amen.

Thank you, I recognize the contrast and influences of modern society on so many aspects of life that do not line up with the values instilled by faith in and pursuit of a relationship with God. Seems if we plan and want to be in the presence of God we would be wise to value his opinion a bit higher vs our own preferences. Amen.
This is probably one of the most challenging questions to answer... From my personal experience your gut feeling is right 9/10 times. If something doesn't feel right, then it most likely isn't. Instead of focusing your efforts on what to look for in a relationship maybe focus more on the deal-breakers. Let's say if you're an environmentalist and you don't want to contribute to overpopulation, you might ask your date something like “What are some of your future goals and aspiration” instead of something like “What are your thoughts on children...” 🤦♂️

The values that God wants in a spouse should override our own values, or attributes of what we look for in a spouse, as our values or our perspective of what is attractive and appealing to the eye is mostly influenced by the world we live in.

I always look for a jurisdiction that doesn't employ no-fault divorce when I look for a spouse. Which is why I'm not looking for a spouse. And if I were looking for a spouse, I sure as hell wouldn't go to the Southern Seminary for advice on what I should look for. I looked to Christians for that the 1 time I got married, and, well, see the aforementioned reference to no fault jurisdictions.

I wish that more qestions and answers will apear about how we look on people around us. And what bible tell us how God look. Some times diferens ameize me.
Nothing! I don't want a spouse. I am fine living with myself and have no desire for physical intimacy. I don't have the gift of singleness, but I am so emotionally wounded I don't want another person with me. I am broke and suffering extreme poverty.
So would I be right in categorizing people by how they look and start with the most favorable then decide whether the values align properly.

Isn't physical beauty from God, and therefore objective, rather than contextual? The bible says David and Joseph were "handsome", so that's God's judgement, not the cultural associations of beauty in their times.

@@chutdiggadigga Hmm the Bible is inspired by the Spirit, but it was also written by human authors. The way I see it, "handsome" could be a judgment of the human authors based on what the wider Israelite community thought of Joseph's and David's physical appearance.

Shayba Jasmine Hi :D Reading the Bible will help you to see what is God’s will because the Bible is the word of God. To answer the second question, yes, that should be the goal of everyone. It won’t be easy and you won’t always be able to do what God asks but the faithful will fall and get back up. Keep trying and keep praying that god help you to do His will because we cannot without His help. Hope this helps. I’ll be praying that God directs your path, your thoughts, and your actions.
God's will is for us to believe on Jesus Christ, the one He sent, His only Begotten Son, God the Son, the Son of God. The Gospel of John Chapter 6 makes that Very Clear.

That's what I thought. I watched the whole thing and at the end, I thought, "what is he trying to say?" I think the current church is terribly inept on dating/marriage issues in contemporary Western society today (March 2020). They don't seem to address or even be aware of the actual problems.
I'm in my 50's and never played games with women so I know what I'm looking for. It's not easy because most women my age have low morals and have made so many bad decisions they are beyond hope. There's a girl I work with much younger and we get along well. I thought what if she's a clean slate spiritually and she would be interested in going to Church with me and that would open her up to Jesus' teaching and the bible and provide her with a good foundation that would make her a good spouse.

John Mark Carter it’s quite simple and helps to understand scripture when you don’t go for memorisation but understating. And when I say understanding it mean concepts not collection of words.
Nikhil Raj Gupta thanks for the answer! I have found that to be the case in my personal experience as well. For giving a case for the hope that is in you, that would be great. I guess the thought on my mine for a good example of this dilemma is when parents have their kids memorize scripture and catechisms. Or someone simply desires to memorize verbatim for its own merits. But perhaps their really is no good answer for that.
John Mark Carter I don’t read bible ever asks us to memorise it. Rather meditate it. I guess that’s what a Pharisee would do. Just memorise and understand nothing. I would always choose later. And multiple translations doesn’t bother then.
