    Mike, you are a gifted storyteller. Your episodes invite us to reflect on our world, our relationships, and the important people in our lives. You highlight fantastic stories and awesome adventures yet you don't make it about you or solely about the accomplishment. You make it about the journey and how we can all find joy and purpose by discovering our journey and sharing that with someone special. Your relationship with Jess is so endearing that I hope all those with siblings recognize how lucky they are to have the chance at experiencing that bond. And no surprise that train travel is one way we can experience some of that. It forces us to slow down and be present in the moment. It dares us to look out and see the world through a different lens. It encourages us to consider simplicity as a version of happiness. Thank you, Mike.

It's like the Rocky mountain tourist trains you did in US and Canada. The most Southern station with regular service is Christchurch via Coastal Pacific train.

    Lol…I love my sister, would love to take her on adventures. As you said, siblings relationships are unique…but nobody else loves you like (including hate love, lol), knows you/understands you better or will unconditionally be there for you like your sibling. Don’t ever take them for granted and don’t ever let that bond fade…glad to see your bond! (And glad to see it in such a beautiful place!)

    Thanks Mike for encouraging train travel. Norway is superb. There are TWO ways to Narvik ! You can also get the train from Oslo to Trondheim, stay overnight (rather than do a sleeper overnight train), and take the train from Trondheim to Fauske, and the bus to Narvik. Or you can stay on the train from Fauske to Bodø, which is also beyond the Arctic Circle. .

    I really chuckled with a full heart when you said that Å is in the beginning of the alphabet. I mean logically it would be to someone not utilizing Å Ä Ö
    But they're actually the last letters, ie, end of the road, end of the alphabet!
    Å would for someone not familiar with those letters, be easiest to think of as a compressed oh. Like the O in 'Porch', 'Pork', 'Orc' or 'Orchard'. A mix of A and O
    Ä is more like the first E in Beverage, a good example to listen to is that famous clip of Freddie Mercury doing some warmup with the crowd. 'WÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ oh!' A mix between A and E
    Ö is a harder one to explain, it sounds something like the first E in Earn but without rolling the R.
    Hope I could make some sense for someone.

  • @alejandrayalanbowman367

    Not a tunnel, it's a snowshed. Behind you, there is probably a mountain from which snow can avalanche and the snowshed tips the snow over the other side of the railway track.
    What a beautiful and fun travelling companion. We are both jealous.

    Thanks for showing places that not always top of one's list for visiting in person. Although I've travelled across all these countries (by car and by rail) they are big places and you've shown other destinations not seen before. I'm not one for surfing, the wetsuits give clues to the air and water temperatures ... it's great to see you enjoying the outdoors in this way.

    The drying racks smell exactly as you think they would. The odd thing is they're not obnoxious. In the late summer after the fish have been drying for some time, the smell isn't intense until you walk directly under the racks.

    But, for example, Murmansk is north of Narvik. And there used to be passenger traffic on the isolated Norilsk railroad, and then it turned out that the northernmost passenger station was in Talnakh. But in principle, the northernmost railroad is on the Yamal Peninsula, with Karskaya station and plans to extend it to Kharasavey.

    • @DownieLive
      @DownieLive  Před rokem

      You are correct, but Karskaya is not a standard gauge railroad, and I very clearly stated this is the most northern STANDARD GAUGE railway.
