We live in a senior apt. The rent goes according to income . And all utilities are included.and the bus goes by every hour outside our apt. I’m very thankful for our home.

My husband and I own 8 rental houses and we've had the same renters for years bc we keep the rent lower in exchange for paying on time and taking care of small repairs, etc. I'd rather help someone out like this anytime.

A lot of people know already that I live in my son's garage, attached to his house. It's nice on the inside; we respect our privacy, call when we need to, share expenses; I pay a portion of the utilities, etc. It's a LOT cheaper than me buying my own house or anything else. Plus I'm a convenient babysitter for them.
Love this. Plus, both you and them have nearby company/family.
I love this! You get to "live" with your son, but not live with him at the same time. You get the best of both worlds. You get to "live" together and be there for each other, but live separately at the same time.

What about heating and air conditioning? Is the garage insulated? Does it have a shower, toilet, and kitchen? I live in an area with extreme heat in the summer and cold in the winter, so I am struggling to envision this scenario.
@@deborahmaehs7604 You are absolutely right. Any empty space like a garage has to be vented, plumbed and have electricity brought in to make it a liveable space. I know someone who failed to do this, and had to go back in and "re-do" what they had done, because they didn't realize the importance of those items to make the space tolerable. This is not a DIY job for anyone who does not have extensive construction experience.
Consolidating households is another option. I was living alone in a big house in New England. Mom was living alone in an even bigger house in Florida. We were both struggling with property tax etc. I sold my house, made a nice profit, gave some of it to mom and moved in with her. It's been a win-win. And I get the added bonus of spending time with my mom in her twilight years. I wish I would have done it 5 years ago.

Our home was considered a starter home. We’ve lived here 44 years. Raised 3 kids. Didn’t need anything bigger. 1980 paid $52,800 for 4 bedrooms, two bath, brand new. Interest rate was 18%

I'd like to see a video about no longer being able to afford medical care (doctor visits & hospital stays), dental care, optometry care, prescription costs, ambulance & medical transportation costs, mental health costs, physical therapy costs, diabetic expenses, dialysis costs.
I live in Israel; immigrated to this country in 1979 at age 16 by myself.
Now I've been living in the same city,and apartment since July 1987, when my daughter was just 2½y.
She's grown and lives in another city, married w four daughters of her own and they lice together w his parents; they even purchased a house together w them and it works for them.
My daughter helped me in being able to purchase my low rent subsidized apartment based on my Israeli Disability stipend and status that helped me receive a great discount on the purchase of my apartment. Instead of my apartment costing me 820,000SH, I paid 220,000SH for the apartment that is 79 meter, which is a two bedroom, living room,and kitchen, utility porch, toilet room, shower room. Solar water.
My medications, and now more recently a newer medical expense of adult pull-ups due to urine incontinence, by far are my highest bills as almost everything else is almost the same, although my electricity bill is every other month, it can be high.
In Israel, the medical health care have four main providers and most medications are somewhat subsidized esp when compared to the States.
Salaries are on the lower end in comparison to the US; my Disability stipend is 4,200SH each month.

I haven’t been to a MD in over 10 years, dentist yes…optometrists no for 20 years. I look after myself quite well, am vain enough that I put money into my teeth, just use WalMart readers for my eyes. I may get sick, I may die from illness…for sure I will die but won’t die broke. I am an American born and raised abroad…Social Security decided I didn’t qualify for Medicare…so no insurance.

Threes Company and Golden Girls lifestyles will need to be adopted for those unable to afford the rent increases. I feel so blessed to have my home. I pray for relief for others.
It just shows that even back then, prices are high for seniors and also for younger people just starting out. Get roommates. My son, right out of college had 2 roommates and drove an old car. He paid off his college debt in 2 years. We never helped him. He was smart.

Indeed - this is a real problem for many people. I mean, this is serious.
Our son reluctantly moved back home after his roommate moved out. He pays some rent and helps us out. A friend of his will be unhoused next week because his landlord is moving his own family into the home. He will be moving in with us for a while. The boys get a huge discount on rent here and they will look after the property while my husband and I travel out of state to check on his elderly parents. They looked at a home to rent together but first and last months' rent plus security was going to be almost $7500. It's crazy.

I know this won't apply for a lot of people because a married couple for example, both people may have jobs that they have to drive to, but when my husband retired, and I had previously been a stay at home mom so I didn't have to drive to a job, we got rid of one of our cars and became a 1 car family. That saves us so much in car repairs and car insurance (for 2 things) for sure.
We bought an e bike, put saddle bags on it for shopping. So what if it takes a couple trips 5 blocks away. Plus we have a backpack we can use.
I bought my house when my parents were still alive and living with me. After their passing I moved in my nephew and his family and they pay me rent.
I also have an apartment that is over my garage that I rent to another family member.
I love having family here with me. We live in a nice area with great schools. It is in a downtown area so we can walk to everything. My nephew and his wife work within walking distance.
They have 3 kids and there is no way they could afford to rent or buy in this area. Yet, their jobs are here so they would have to commute.
My other family who rents from me also has a child and she cannot afford to rent or buy around here.
This way it helps me and benefits them too. I am happy knowing everyone is safe and lives in a good home and the kids go to great schools.
Also, our working schedules are staggered so we all help with the kids and do not need to pay for outside childcare.
You are a good person. So many people only see dollar signs in their eyes. Not having to commute for work and living in a walkable neighbourhood is a huge money and timesaver.

We have a nice 3 bedroom mobile home on our land that our daughter used to live in. We rent it to an elderly lady for 800 a month it has a fenced yard and she can keep her dog.
Mobile homes have gone through the roof which is ridiculous considering they don't hold up over time. But it's great that you're letting her keep her best friend.
@@suecook8087 well that hasn't been our experience. And she has told me her last place was half the size with no yard for almost twice the rent. We own a double wide on the far side of our land that came with the land. We rent it to a single mom who has raised her large family there. It has needed no more maintenance than the average house and has been providing shelter to various families for almost 40 years.

@@suecook8087 The older mobile homes were junk. My 1994 mobile home has plywood floors, 2 x 4's on 16" centers just like a house. Three years ago, they almost doubled the value of it.
My brother would paint the apartments, after the renters left. He would get a huge discount on his rent.

People always talking about voting we've been voting for years. Nothing has changed people when are y'all going to realize that these people in Washington don't give a damn about us. why should I vote for somebody and give them free rent free food free transportation. This is a topic that's so important...so many people are becoming homeless. I think Van or RV living is definitely an option. Hubby and I have an RV, and I always tell him we could live in it if we had to. Good ideas all around.
I learned that a person I know ended up on a property of my Moms- he was homeless, knew it was empty, forgot to ask in his despair. I got a formal notice- he’d been there for months. The government wanted to charge him. I insisted they leave him be until he could clear up and move. We NEED to be better humans in this world. I was angry. I was also more concerned about my friend. Went with my heart, not $. Too bad he couldn’t think to ask us at that time.
To be fair- his outdoor living room was the issue! Not zoned for that.🤣

RV and Van are not good options for those who cannot buy one. Furthermore, difficult to find space, land or spot to stay. $$ for RV spaces. Cities and towns are ticketing or towing RVs, vans and cars that are used for living in.
I grew up in a family of 7 with 1 bath. My husband grew up with 8 and only had 1 bathroom. It is doable.
When people from other countries moved here, there would be several generations in one home. That is how they lived in their country because housing there was so expensive. Now it is here!
It’s normally in most countries to have many generations under one roof. We have 3 👍🏻
In Illinois, the only option to escape the housing inflation crunch is to move far away from the price gauging areas. I moved 100 miles west of Chicago 5 years ago, not knowing todays market would be as it is. However, I can rent a home for 1,200.00 a month. That is rare.
Relocating is almost required if finances are a concern. Yes, Im allowed my pets where in suburbia its rare.
We moved from a suburb of Chicago 10 years ago. Was paying $900 a month just for property taxes on a 3rd of an acre. 1800 sf home worth $250,000. Ridiculous. Bought 5 acres in rural Kentucky and built our own home. We now pay $600 a YEAR ! So nice ! No debt

I rent a small 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment. The rent is very reasonable and includes utilities. I've lived here 4 years because the owner doesn't go up on the rent as long as you live here. One lady has lived here o her 30 years, another 25 years, etc. We stay because rent is so expensive elsewhere and we love it here. It's mostly older folks like me and one young couple.

Was down to 1 car. Had a nice garage in condo Rented 1/2 to a neighbor that wants to store her husbands Harley Davidson motorcycle. It really didn’t take up much room, but she helped me and I helped her worked out really good.

Our senior apartments in my area are 1,850.00 to 2,200.00 and every year pay increases. Most seniors just stay in their houses and cut back and work at Walmart part-time to help pay the taxes.

Bought my house in 21 at a great low cost and at a great low interest on a 1227 a month SSDI income, My mortgage is 1/4 of our income now and we overpay the principal every single month since the first payment was due, Already knocked almost 7 years off the life of the loan in 3 years. We claimed the double homestead exemption, and raised the deductibles on our home owners. Also have savings we constantly add to at the end of every month with the leftover from each month's check.

I have a "village" of people over my back fence living in tents ⛺️ in a park/reserve. It's illegal but most people can't afford $400 week for a tiny 1 bedroom granny flat.

A friend got an empty lot in CA and put the mobile home on it as storage- with a building permit in place for future housing- two years to plan. It saved them lots in pad fees. Not sure that can happen in all towns there.

Resale on mobile homes is not too great unless its affixed to a foundation/above the ground and if you own/purchase the property. Mobile homes have gone way up too. We had one in 1985, was a pain in the behind to sell.
@@shihtzuluvrtwo6386 maybe I need to clarify a term because I don’t have one. It was something you can pull behind a car, like a large camper. Some you can drive. Can park anywhere level for a bit.
You're looking at over a 100 grand probably for a new mobile home now with a lot and installation. And what a lot of people don't know is the insurance is not the same coverages on a regular home.
Another option is on-site security. Some businesses have little apartments or rooms where a security agent could stay in exchange for security services. When the business isn't open, there would be someone on-site that could patrol the premises at night. These could be car lots, industrial settings, boat yards, marinas, small airports, auto junk yards or warehouses of any kind. Many settings have problems with trespassers and break-ins. This also can be applied to mansions, hotels, motels, rooming houses, universities, trade schools, farms, trucking companies, etc. If you have an interest in any of the above, check and see if they need security.
This is reality today. I don't have the answer. I would love to downsize, but housing is so expensive where I'd like to move. You had some very good solutions. I don't know if I could live in a van with my husband, lol. I do enjoy watching the videos about van life. It's ingenious the way they fit everything in such a small space. Great video! This was a great topic. We have relocated before too. We did get rid of a lot of stuff but ironically I found that freeing. It’s so much easier to maintain less stuff.
I will say, as someone who used to live the ministry life, generally speaking a lot of churches no longer provide a physical home and instead provide a housing allowance. However, either way a physical home or housing allowance is considered part of the pastor’s salary. So they may be provided a home but their income may quite low. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that it isn’t worth it to pastor a church. Just that it’s a lot of work, especially in small churches, and the income is very low. In today’s economy in a small church, you’d probably have to be bi-vocational just to make ends meet.

Back when I was a little kid in the 1960s, my grandmother used to rent rooms in her house to girls at the local college. My mother-in-law did the same in New Orleans, with the house she left my wife. Actually, TWO houses, because the rented rooms eventually helped her afford a tiny rental house.

Thank you for the ideas. By watching CZcams videos, the short story ones, it is obvious that in many other countries there are companies that provide rooms, sometimes small apts, sometimes larger housing is available for employees at significant reduction in costs. It is a significant employment perk. I think that some of our employers should consider this. It would beat all those employee morale meetings that never work.
Everyone can live in a smaller house. We’ve been taught the big homes are the ideal. I’m so glad we “suffered” through a smaller house - no need to downsize and costs were lower so experiences could happen instead of being “house poor”.
I think the idea of sharing spaces is a good one. I would love it if I could swap with a trusted person or two and just live part time in three places in different areas.
We have a 3,000 sf home which my husband and son built. And I’m glad we did because my 90 year old dad lives with us and 2 adults sons so they can save their checks and not throw it all on housing somewhere else. Plus we have 5 acres and many gardens. We grow most of our own food and have chickens. Love having 3 generations under one roof. Never had a mortgage on our home. Paid as we went along building it

You know I suffered a lot during my marriage raising 3 children with a man for a husband who would not stay employed. In looking back, I am thankful for the lessons I learned on how to get by as they are helping me as I learn to live on a fixed income.
Most important TRUSTED person..how do you find that person..and hope that their friends are like them? Evictions are a nightmare..takes time during which time they destroy the property
..even senior women can be closet alcoholics
Solution..convince a couple of friends to relocate with you to an inexpensive area..so many people are reluctant to move and leave their friends. Connect with others...support group based on economic concerns..not AA..not grief groups...A group to find solutions.

I own my home, retired, single, trying to take care and finding anyone to do the job is impossible. I don’t have a car which makes it more difficult.
My parents live in their RV. My dad was getting too old to move place to place so they bought property and hooked up to city water and sewer. Most campgrounds will only let you stay 2 weeks and you have to dump your tanks occasionally and fill your water. Also you have to fill propane tanks snd replace battery every so often. It's not easy so don't recommend to older people with disabilities. You have great ideas ❤
We have a neighbor down the road (out here in the country) they live in their class A motorhome. They have an acre or 2 of land. They’re here for 6 months and go somewhere else in the winter months. Works for them.

I knew a guy who lived in his storage unit. I'm sure the storage company manager didn't know he was sneaking into his storage unit and sleeping there; I'm sure it was against regulation.
Here in Georgia we have senior apartments owned by Fairway Management. They also have apartments in other states that charge low rent. The problem is that you need to earn two or three times the rent so if the rent is $600 you need to earn $1200 to $1800. Sometimes they let a family member co-sign. Some seniors don't qualify because they don't have good credit.
I grew up in a 1700 sq ft ranch home with 4 siblings, 2 parents and 1.5 baths - we never thought we were crowded!
Mine home is that size and it’s just me and my dog! Was bigger than I wanted, but no other smaller decent homes available at the time. 🤷♀️

Great video! My niece and her husband couldn't afford to buy a house and had to move to a lesser location but still close enough for her to drive to work. They bought a small ranch Style with an attached garage, and they converted that garage into a studio apartment. They need the rent from the garage to pay their mortgage. It's been 2 years and so far so good. It's really important to get a quality renter though.

We did that with our land lords years ago. We went in painted all rooms, cleaned, did small repairs, and even upgraded couple appliances with free but better ones. They were so appreciative that they dropped the deposit completely and lowered the rent by couple hundred dollars. They even paid us to do work on their other properties. If you are able to do the work, it is worth it.

I rent from my son because my rent doubled.I live on Soc.S and don't qualify for low income.I have a one bedroom,bathroom and share the laundry room and kitchen to cook.I have my own apt.refrig.I pay the rest of my bills,etc.

I’m in the UK. I would consider renting out a storage space in my home or garage/ parking space. I think there are apps that help with parking spaces, especially good if you live near a train station.

In my early 20's I designed and built our modest ranch style home, 2bd/1bath and it's been a lifesaver all these years, especially during the 2008 financial crisis/great recession. If I were a young man just starting out today I would totally live in a Ford Transit AWD high roof van, work a full time job, join a low cost health club for working out/long hot showers and I'd rent a storage locker to keep gear and a small fishing boat. Every single weekend would be an outdoor adventure all over my state, fishing, hunting, hiking, sightseeing, etc. Leave on Friday right after work, back on Sunday evening for a quick workout and shower before bedtime and then up early to work. Currently I'm looking for a used 2020 Ford transit AWD van to convert to a flexible camper van for traveling and to use as a second vehicle, taking the place of my pickup truck. In a few years it may even become our primary vehicle, who knows.

I upsized when I moved states. There were no smaller decent homes around the time I moved. Plus I didn’t want to wait any longer, since prices kept going up! Thankful for what I was able to get period! It’s like a big game.
I wish I had enough money to build an apartment complex. I would have tiny studio units, perfect for a college student or a retired person or an empty nester.

D is going up for medication soon according to Medicare. Everything will continue to go up. Didn’t realize it. 75 still work 12 hours a week. I’m healthy and thankful I can work for grocery money. I’m organic.
Things people can no longer afford/ideas for future videos... vacations are tough to afford these days. When you factor in travel, hotels and eating out, amusements, etc., with a family... YEEK! Take a staycation, instead, where you spend time together as a family, but explore free adventures, like state parks, museums, monuments, zoos, local rivers/lakes/beaches, etc. that are within driving distance from home, but you've never had time to fully explore before. Camp in the back yard (or your living room), make a campfire and s'mores, watch a movie outside at night, BBQ your meals, gaze at the stars, watch a sunrise.... so much we don't have time for in our busy lives, but take a few days off work, and try something new!

To save on rent I’d work the overnight shift and get off at 7am. Rent the storage unit close to work and sleep there during the day, I have a gym membership so there’s a place to shower every day. My job’s open 24 hours a day and has a kitchen and you could sleep in the sick room. That would also make it easy to pick up hours for extra income

I honestly believe that who get along very well with one bathroom. I was 1 of 5 children and we had one bathroom until we were leaving home.Then they added a second bath. I've raised 3 sons with one bathroom and we got along just fine.Never thought a thing about it
This is so sad we have to have this discussion in our rich country. No one should be homeless in this country. We need more mental health facilities to assist with this epidemic. All of these commercial buildings that are just sitting empty could be utilized for housing. We need to give the youth the American Dream back! Good tips, thank you for bringing this up.
If you are handy, some ppl buy really cheap houses that need alot of work or buy in auctions if they are seized for back taxes. I read that you can check with the county (?) to see if there are such homes offered for sale.
These are excellent ideas. I am so grateful we own our home and it's sad to know how many hardworking people are having housing problems.
Our home is paid for, it costs us approximately $400 per month, tax&insurance. We couldn't rent anywhere for that. When the time comes, we will sell and move on.

On C.B.C. News 1 year. Ontario tried a living situation with college kids living with seniors who lived
alone for companionship and it worked. The seniors were happy and the college kids loved the experience and were very happy.

It’s hard out here . I wonder how long it will be before someone ask to live in my shed .
Housing is something we shouldn't have to worry about. Especially when they're giving bags full of money to illegal people, free groceries, free medical, thousands of $$$ monthly, money to buy furniture, etc. All the while us vets have to have an act of Congress to qualify for disability while trying to figure out how not to wind up homeless. The government will help with vouchers, so you get to live next to the drug dealers in the worst areas of town. RV living is looking pretty attractive at this point.
We own our mobile home, pay lot rent $555.12 a month and $230 a year for land taxes to have it sit on the property.
My sister and brother in law retired at 35 years young. They house sit and pet sit across the country , (now in Hawaii for two months) and have no home/all that comes with owning a home.
Lot rent has gone up a lot. I remember it being $130 and $181 in a mobile home community, years ago.
Great suggestions, Dawn. I think you could make several more videos about groceries because the supermarkets are just going up every day. Something really needs to be done in our nation to bring living expenses, groceries, gas, and necessities for families down in prices because it is really getting out of hand. I recently moved back to Texas because my husband passed away and I moved in with my sister.. She lost her husband of pancreatic cancer 3 1/2 weeks ago. We are doing what you suggested in one of your other videos of sharing our vehicles, I pay for half of the taxes, we buy our own groceries when we’re at the supermarket, but usually we buy a lot of things together and split the price. Fortunately, the house is paid off & no car payments. and the question you ask about the two bathrooms if I had two bedrooms or three bedrooms I would have to have at least two bathrooms no, I could not do with one bathroom.. 😂😂 😂👍❤️
Brilliant! Yes, alternatives and options. We are in a Greater Depression than the 1940s. HOUSING is becoming an American Nightmare. Dawn has a good list of resources and ideas: Move back in with family; rent a room; get a roommate; become a caregiver and live in your client's home; be a rental manager either in an apartment complex or in a mobile home park; she gave other suggestions as well.
RVs are the new covered wagons of olden days. YTer Brooke and Pippa provide useful information. Such as, which state allows RVers to establish residency in their state, which helps with insurances and licensing of vehicles. Brooke&Pippa also provide a list of seasonal jobs that many RVers can take advantage of.
In our country Australia we have housing commission studios, units and houses the government owns...and we only pay 10 percent of our income for rent...only for low income earners, aged, disability, single parents...but long wait to get a place though....can take years...
Studio apartments in my town, are 1200 a month and up. And there's none available cuz people stay there. Nobody can afford to move. Also be cautious about mobile homes in parks. They just shut down a few parks and told everybody they had to leave. Moving a mobile home is a terrible expense and where do you go? These Parks will be turned into apartment soon where they can charge a lot. I have a mobile home on my own lot, land.

Also here in Australia a. Woman began a Facebook page for women over 50 years old...as women in this age group who have become homeless has grown so much ..she started a site for women over 50 who may have a house but finding it difficult on her own so can rent a room out to another woman who is doing it tough...
How supportive
Efficiency apartments and studio apartments are out there and are less expensive for sure, and if they are in an apartment complex that allows pets, that's nice. They usually only allow 2 pets per apartment. I've thought about extended stay hotels/motels. I've read you get a discount when you are staying long term and paying monthly instead of daily, and so many motels these days have little kitchens.
Okay, making more money isn't an option with low vision 70+ year-old widow. While I write books and publish them for extra income, that isn't proving to be very lucrative. So, I have chosen your "mobile home" option. I bought a 1150 square foot mobile home in a great park. It's pretty dumpy, but I think I can fix it up really cute. For instance, the refrigerator is white, the cooktop is black, the stove hood is almond, the dishwasher has a brightly coloured oversized floral print panel, the wall ovens are relics of the 70's and are Harvest Gold, the sink is stainless steel. The faucet is chrome, all of the knobs and hardware is done in 'cast iron' black, and the light pedant is oiled bronze. There is - literally - not one single appliance or fixture that matches anything else in the room. That takes some special effort! But, it is also easy to fix. By buying the dumpy (but clean, sturdy, and mechanically sound) mobile home, I saved over 20% on the purchase price and will have decent equity inside of 18 months. Necessity really is the mother of invention! Great video, Dawn.
Hopefully the park you are in doesn't raise their fee a lot. Happened to friends of mine. Started out great, then turned into nightmare.

The park is older, in the heart of town, and has been owned by people who actually live in the park and has had the same ownership structure for over 40 years. It seems unlikely that they would sell to a big developer. Second, this is my first step to my dream home which I plan to build myself (Daddy was an architect, and I've dreamed of building my own home for over 50 years). So the plan is: fix up the mobile home and get a roommate to reduce my costs. Then, buy a lot and when I have substantial equity in the lot, begin building my little retirement cottage. Pay off as much of the construction cost as I can by selling the mobile home. It's a great plan in THEORY - I'll just have to wait and see how it comes out. Say a little prayer for me!

We've talked about moving but we'll be staying put for now. We could make some decent money selling our house, but we can't afford to buy another one and rent is too much, and we have too many pets. I know someone that rents a room. There are 4 others that also rent rooms in that house.

I know of people who lived seasonally in a campground from April through September.
They owned a small camper with propane heater and got a water and electricity hook up type of site. I live in New England so I don’t know how they survived it. They would only rent an apartment or live with family during the real cold months.

I have an elderly neighbor who rents a room in her house to a medical school student. He’s hardly ever at the home during g the day but she likes knowing he’s there at night for safety since her husband died.
How smart
I know two couples with small children, who pooled their money together to buy a house. They shared all living expenses and child care.
Another option is to move to another country with a lower cost of living. There are communities of American ex patriots living all over the world.

I bought a BMR unit was not discounted much but I lost bids for > year to buy a regular condo over asking. I saved $1K/mo. for 10 years while paying rent to save up. At 50 years old I wanted a small home to call my own for future stability; never had consumer debt. Not allowed to rent the 2nd BR and housing costs are 50% take home (for 1 of 2 loans); HOA/insurance has gone up. Work moved and is 3-4 hours commute/day. Priced out of small apartment so it will be room for rent or move into my minivan. I won't leave my professional job yet due to retirement benefits which I really need as a single person. I am sorting things in my home in preparation; the emotions are a lot.

We re selling our house and netting enough money to buy a truck and an large travel trailer. We can't afford the house and go on vacations. Now we will be able to do both. I am conflicted as I really, really love my home.

i'd rather eat dirt than do some of these things.I rented a room or had apartments with roommates until about 35 years old. Then had an apartment. Now at 61 I would never go backward. We should be working toward affordable housing not renting room with kitchen rights. These are "desperation" tactics and not real solution. We need to change laws, build more homes and fight fo the future of housing!!!!

I was finding it difficult to pay my mortgage....so I rented my unit out and lived in share accommodation...which was slot cheaper...and allowed me to pay extra towards my mortgage... until I could afford to move back in and pay it myself...and as I was a single person I rented one of my bedrooms out, renting a granny flat out the back of someones house or even a tent...

Housing I would say is a tiny bit cheaper here. In Michigan though most homes or condos have nice basements. I’ll be so glad to have this move behind us. Will be crazy expensive to move back. Trying to get rid of a lot of items.

Volunteer firefighters have overnight group housing. A guy in his early 20s decided to buy land pay it off then build his own 3/2/2 home. The fire station was free but he had to agree to go out on calls. Many of his meals were free from the auxiliary or community members.

I live in an RV in Arizona and I’m so over it. I’m tired of the list if things I can’t do. I don’t want to live with other people. I’m looking for a mobile home in bullhead city, but the prices keep going up.

I’m currently looking at used tiny homes and some affordable land to put it on. (300 ish Sq ft). I can’t believe it actually looks quite doable. My situation is that I can’t get any financing right now and the smallest regular homes I can find are just over what I could pay. RV is also a temp option. And if a trailer is nice enough, that’s ok too. I could rent but that’s through the roof also (esp with Pets). Pets….so I really need my own yard. I also may wind up a bit more rural than I’d prefer, but that’s also more flex zoning and less expensive. Might could afford to add on a bonus sunroom at some point also and a porch space. But right now I just need a decent roof that doesn’t break the bank.
