- Furniture Flippers Unite! A paint recipe for the rest of us!! Thank you guys for 20k!! đ I have a gift just for you to be able to make your very own one step paint using materials from Home Depot!!! Enjoy â€ïž I appreciate you all so much and Iâm grateful for your support!!
****This recipe does not work for black paint
**^ You MUST use WATER đ§ based products
Lots of questions asking âwhat if my paint is paint and primer in one?â Unfortunately the primer In wall paint doesnt add ANY adhesive qualities and Is more of a marketing gimmick by paint companies. If you want this to work you have to follow my recipe with all three Ingredients. Trust me on this, I experimented A LOT đ so you dont have to!
Lots of questions about how much paint I actually use In the video. I used about 1 & 1/2 cup. I have experimented with 1 and up to 2 parts paint with this recipe and have gotten great results with any of those amounts.
I canât put the recipe in here because itâs too easy haha and you wonât watch the video đ sorry!
All ingredients are water based products, for this recipe to work your products need to all be water based đ an oil based product wonâ mix in with a water based - Jak na to + styl
I hope you give this a try, youâll be so happy you did!!! đ€ đ And donât be surprised if you start to become a bit of a black sheep too đ
My mind is blownđđ€Ż Iâve already making it. FYI- Sherwin Williams sells their mistint for $1 per quart. The gallons are $5
Oh wow!! Thatâs awesome đ
@@jeanbcook itâs fun to experiment â€ïž but yeah, Iâve had the best results from the 1 part paint, 1 part Zinnser, 1 part satin clear coat
I'm a new subscriber after seeing this posting! Question...does this recipe work like chalk paint? Can you distress and use colored waxes for effects? Is this something that you've tried? Either way, I am going to definitely be trying out this recipe. Thank you so much đ
Traditionally, chalkboard chalk was made from calcium carbonate. Today, most is made up mostly of gypsum, so it probably wouldn't work the same. Great info and we are going to try this!
I started painting when I was 14 for a construction company. Back in the old days..lol. When we painted cabinets this is the recipe that the old painter gave me and I have used it for many years. He used athletic field marking chalk he got at the sports store or ace. Long before Annie was a thing. That stuff was solid as a rock. I use this on all my furniture I flip and sell and paint for a living, so yes, I can totally verify this is a tried and true method. I am so glad you shared this. It saves tons of money and I've never been happier with a finish. I've tried some of the name brands and they are good, but im thrifty and I can make gallons compared to small containers price wise. I've used this with all sheens of paint and brands, because I'm an oops user too! Thanks for sharing. You rock!!
â€ïž love that!!
Did you make it with paint, primer, varathane and calcium carbonate also ? Does it store well or get hard?
N,q
Kathleen, thanks for sharing! Would you share your recipe?
thank you for sharing knowledge...it seems to me so ridiculous to pay 35 dollars for a quarter of paint just because is chalk paint or mineral paint...come on...right?
Lowes sells a clear primer called Kilz Klear, that would work great for the darker colored paints. Thanks for experimenting with the formula so we donât have to!
As a kid, about 50 years ago, lived in a new development where there was continual building of houses going on. We would take the scrap sheet rock out of the trash piles, peel off the paper and use it for ALL the art supplies - chunks for sidewalk chalk, or crushed and mixed it with lots of water for a thick white paint or just a bit of water for âclayâ . Lots of good memories! And hopefully nothing toxic in it.
This is the best concoction!!! I have been refinishing furniture for 5 years and decided when we refinished our bedroom set I wanted something easy to work with and not a ton of steps bc we just didnât have time for multiple processes and wait times. This is truly amazing and streak free!!
I have so many things I âwantâ to do and have held off because I simply donât have the disposable income for the paint & supplies I need. This I think I can do money wise. Iâm going to give it a âgoâ! Thank you so much! Everyone wish me luck I may make a ton of mistakes and my first makeover may be tacky, but it will make a world of difference in my senior lifestyle if I can conquer this! Again thank you all.
Good luck! Good for you for trying! I wish you the best, donât give up if it doesnât work out at firstâŠyouâll learn so much along the way!!
Great video with amazing information, thank you! If you buy your paint from Home Depot and possibly Lowes, ask for a duplicate label of your paint (they can scan the little round custom paint label as long as the bar code is fully visible). Then you can put the duplicate label on the bottom of your "1 step paint" jar in case you need more. I always suggest that my customers put these on the back of switch plates, sides of cabinet drawers, etc for future reference.
What a smart idea! Thank you for sharing it with us.
That looked like 2 parts paint, 1 part poly, 1 part primer, 1/4 cup calcium carbonate. Thank you so much. What a great idea for the âtouch upâ paint.
Hey Miss Molly! I have done the recipe with anything from 1 parts paint up to 2 parts paint and the 1 parts paint is stronger against scratches. The official recipe I shoot for is 1/1/1 and 1/4 cup Chalk powder 1/8 cup paint but I may have been a little pouring happy in the video đ
@@blacksheephouse It looks like you used 1/4 cup of calcium carbonate and 1/8 cup of WATER not PAINT. Which is correct? Thank uou.
@@saraaustin4240 ..she has to dissolve the calcium carbonate first, by mixing it with a small amount of water, she says that in the video.
â@@celeste-236Luke warm water will help it dissolve more quickly/thoroughly. It's always funny reading the comments and seeing how many apparently weren't listening. It's refreshing to see some people actually do!
Very inspirational! It's folks like you that make me jump up off the couch & say "Yes! I want to do that!" And then run out to get all the supplies. Unfortunately, many times they sit in the garage, until the next inspirational video or until I find the right piece. But it does happen - eventually! But now I know I CAN use that old paint. Thanks for all you do! đ
Haha! I am the same at time too đ YAY for using old paint â€ïž
Thanks for all your time and information. Not all "artists" will share their stories and you just made it easier for everyone out there. I've tried this recipe as well and I will never buy paint for DIY jobs again. I love your videos and naughty personality. đđ»
I have been wanting to try this! I can't see paying the exorbitant price for a small jar of chalk paint. Thank you for sharing!!
I loved fusion mineral paint but feel the same! Iâm sooo frugal đ
She has a cute personality. My first time on her channel and I admire her humility with bubbly giggles. Great job.
yes she is one of the kind...trust me when i say...there are a bunch of 'paint flippers" in utube that are so full of themselves and think they know all the tricks (LOLOL) but they copy one another and when one reach out to give them a tip or two (by experience) some reply that the tip is not welcome because they do not asked for it...or something on that line...I just laugh because they want to be "smart" but they work harder and they are unwilling to humble themselves and accept advice for a pro...funny isn't?
@@lolitabonita08 It's so refreshing when people are authenticity themselves and appreciate others. She's a beautiful lady to look at but her authenticity just draws one in!
I know this video is old compared to some of your newer video posts but after watching it (for probably the 4th time⊠lol) I finally tried your paint recipe and I truly was wowed! Just finished a beautiful set of nightstands and I canât say enough about the application and the finished look. Absolutely love your all your stuff Shannon, you make furniture refinishing seem so much less intimidating to us beginners. đ
How did they hold up? I just stumbled on this video.
You can find calcium carbonate powder at most vitamin stores, that's where I get mine :) for those reading, this is what makes the paint stick to all the things with little to no sanding. I also use an old immersion blender to mix or throw it in can and have them put it on the shaker at the hardware store if making a lot
What?!?!? I am so blown away! It makes so much sense , yet I would have never thought to do this! Thank you for sharing! From one GA girl to another! â€
I just made your recipe for the paint and gave it a try. I am thrilled!!! Thank you so very much for sharing this!!! I learn so much from you. You are real and genuine. Thank you, again!!

What a clever idea! I enjoy and look so forward to all your videos. Thank you for sharing this recipe with us
This is a game changer for me as I haven't been able to make much of a profit yet bc I'm buying chalk paint, and I so appreciate u sharing it! Love ur channel, always learn something new đ€đ„ł
Yay!! This will definitely help!
Sabrina I buy the sample size paints in satin or flat at Loweâs or HDepot, to that, you add two TB of calcium carbonate diluted in one TB of water, (or a little more) the adhesion superb! Finish with topcoat.
@@busyme4 thank you!!!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing and I can hardly wait to try it! I also love âOopsâ paint. đ
Gonna try this one step paint. I make my own chalk paint occasionally already for my furniture projects. Gonna need to try this paint recipe now. Save time and money đ° awesome thanx again
Iâm fascinated with this recipe because I have a lot of leftover paint in my house and I believe you should use what you have before buying more! Love that I could reduce my projects from 2 coats primer+2 coats paint + 2 coats top coat so from 6 coats to maybe 2 total coats! Amazing!!!! Thank you for sharing!!
Glad to share!! â€ïž
Wow! Thank you so very much! You are a paint genius! â€ïž And I do love that sweet little logo. So cute and perfect!! â€ïž

Thank you for the recipe to create your own one step paint. It sounds like you have a winner! I also have a jar of this product to create chalk paint I havenât used, so I canât wait to try it out. Thanks!
First of all thank you....
Take ordinary chalk, put it in a CHEAP multi and turn into powder , it's EXACTLY the same as the bought stuff , I also bought a small sieve and put the powder through as an extra precaution ....Greetings from Athens, Greece
A cheap what?
@@insatiableivy Yeah, I was wondering what they meant too.
@@insatiableivy a cheap processor or spice grinder .....break the chalk up into smaller pieces and grind it up ....by putting it through a sieve your making sure that you're getting the powder only....
I bet a coffee bean grinder will work great. And you can get a cheap one at Walmart. Can't wait to try out these ideas !!
What does the chalk do to the paint? What is the purpose of using it?
Such a great idea and absolutely a huge time saver !!! You are awesome đ

I am so excited to give this a try!
I have a very small kitchen and been waiting to paint the cabinets white and although my kitchen is tiny, I have been putting it off because of the work involved, but bit after watching this video I believe Iâm going to going to pull the plug and get it going⊠your method cuts the job time by more then half!!! Horray I will post before and after pictures after I get it done!!!
â€ïž
Looking forward to trying this recipe. I used to work at Loweâs in the paint department so I would snag any paint I liked the color of. I probably have 30 gallons of paint in my shop. đ€·ââïž
Awesome! Thatâs a lot of paint đ â€ïž
I love that you are sharing this idea. I've been tempted to try. I do mix my own colors from behr sample paints. I mostly sew bit newish to other crafting. Ice tries painting ball jars in separate steps but our weird climate ranges one day too dry to next too humid. I can't get it to stick even prepping with a top coat or cleaning with alcohol. I also don't want to spend time waiting for paint to dry to go to next step. I have made my own chalk paint. I looked up what chalk was first. So chalk is mainly two ingredients in nature. Calcium and something else. Except Plaster of Paris has 3 and only found outside of Paris. It hardens more and why was used for casts. But any calcium product is supposed to work. I used powder plaster patch. But the article I read said to find the one with the fewest additives. So I did. It worked pretty good.
Thanks for sharing. Im always going to Home Depot and Lowes looking for the sale paint but this is great. I must try it. â€ïž
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
That was pretty cool. I'm going to try it!!
Thank you so much for this video. Iâm going to do this with some of my paints. You always have such great money making/ saving tips to share and I trust them. Iâm using your âNo Brush Strokesâ method of painting / top coating using a 6 â foam roller and love it. P.S. like your hair cut đ€
Honestly, u are beyond sweet sharing this!!! The chalk paint is soo xpensive. This is a blessing!! All the hugs đ€
Beautifully made. Thank you âĄ
I'm So so so so so impressed! I can't wait to try this. I'm getting ready to paint my kitchen cabinets and think this will be the perfect solution to not having to paint multiple layers. That gallon of blue paint you have is exactly the color the bottom cabinets will be. The tops will be a soft white with glass pane doors.
I just made your one step paint and I am so excited.. I did a test on an old door , ands no chips and a very smooth finish...thank you so much
YAA!!!
What exactly was your recipe as far as quantity of paint, primer and topcoat? Thank you.
What a great idea!
I have been painting for years and so glad to learn about your 1 paint
Thank you soooo much for sharing!! I can't wait to try!!!!

Wow! You really come up with great ideas!
Thank you for sharing this. It is going to be a game changer for a newbie like me.
I can't wait to try this!
Game changer! You are the Best. Thanks!!
Iâve been doing this for two years now. Everyone thought I was crazy! Yay, another artist confirms- Iâm not!!! Lol
PS, I use plaster of Paris.
Hey Lexi! I got a can of acrylic paint and was wondering if i can mix it up with plaster of paris?! You think it will it work?! Do you use the same 1:3 ratio?
@@reliveadream yes on the acrylic. For the pOp, I usually use three tbsp to 1/3-1/2 cup of water; mix water & pOp together first. Add to pint of paint then I add 1/3-1/2 cup minwax top coat, depending on what Iâd be painting:)
@@lexiwest2644 Thats great to know! Thank you for replying! =)
@@reliveadream yes indeed! Have a blessed weekend:)
Doesnât that mew stuff bb frosch do the same thing? Sheâs making an all in one though

Omg, I was wondering if this could work!!!! THANK YOU!!!đđđđ

I've made my own chalk paints for years. I use plaster of Paris. Lasts for years and works great! Thanks for the recipe!
I was just going to ask about this. Iâve heard plaster of Paris is a chalk paint hack
Love this !
Thank you Shannon! Awesome!
I love your work and attitude. Thank you
Can anyone testify of the long term durability of this mixture? Or it would be rwally awesome Shannon if you could do a video with previous projects that you used this on and how they have held up †id love to try this!!
Thanks for this information. I'm going to try this.
I have tried making chalk paint with baking soda and water but I didn't strain it so I'm going to try that... along with your recipe. I get paint on clearance all the time so I'm excited to try this!! Thank you!!
I love this! Thank you so much for all the great information.
This is cool that your doing this. I actually came up with a little recipe of my own for a great all in one paint. Same top coat but I used a paint and primer combo. I've never measured it when I mix it to use. I'll add baking soda, sea salt, ex. What ever texture I need at the time. I have to try this. Pretty cool. Also I have actually mixed some chalk paint and top coat to fix a bleed through when I was adding blending on top of that color but didn't have much top coat at the time I was working on that piece. Lol. But I got more later. đ
I'm going to try this recipe. â€
Very cool! Thanks for sharing!
I need to try this! This is a game changer!
FANTASTIC!! Came over from Upcycled Life!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for the recipe! Keep tinkering.
I've never painted for a living but I've done a lot of painting for myself and my house. I came up with the idea of the paintbrush then the clean roller on my own.....I did 'crackle' using glue and a blow dryer which looked so natural....I do like your mixing paint with equal parts of varathane as I've struggled with a good finish the old way and I can't wait to use your way. I love to use drywall compound to get an Italian villa like finish on my walls....it is so fun to do. I've made my own stencils and used this mud on walls and doors. My latest -- I used my crochet doilies as stencils and did my kitchen panty door.
I like the logo. Very artistic and eye catching.
I used your paint recipe and I love it. I will never buy chalk paint again. Thank you so much for your videos.
I mixed up this recipe this week and gave it a try. I really, Really, REALLY like this mixture! The consistency is awesome with a smooth finish. It also has great coverage and I only had to use two coats. Thank you so much! I also used your whisk broom technique this week on another piece and itâs amazing too! Adding both to my furniture flipping arsenal! THANK YOU!!!
What is the wisk broom technique?

Thank you for this information. I too look everytime I go to home depot for oops paint. And I definitely recommend stirring the calcium carbonate with water before adding to the paint. I have chunks in my one paint but will be going to dollarama to get those strainers to filter them out. Love this
â€ïž awesome! Yes, my recipe i do is 1/4 cup calcium carbonate mixed in 1/8 cup water, and if needed a splash more of water. Sorry I probably wasnât super clear on that in the video đ
