- Randy Lawrence has had one of the most remarkable careers in two wheels I have ever come across. He was an OG of the BMX scene in Southern California and the brother of "Factory" Phil Lawrence. He found his way into a roll as a mechanic and wound up working with "The King" Jeremy McGrath before retiring to race the Downhill World Cup for Intense. He then came back into moto to work as a trainer and carved out an amazing career for himself training guys like Jake Weimer and Ryan Villopoto.

Area/regional qualifiers are almost more of a send fest because for many riders the main goal is just to qualify and not much thought is put into actually racing there. Qualifiers at Washougal were always insane basically.
You should see dade city Mx when they do gold cup qualifiers. 200 85 rider. 200 65 riders. It’s stupidly insane

In the 90s some of the races we'd go to, especially Washougal, would have so many entries for classes like 125 B/C, 125 Schoolboy, and 250 B/C, that during a 2 day event they would have qualifiers on the first day for those classes in order to narrow it down for qualifying the next morning before actually racing those classes. Supermini was another huge class and by the time they narrowed it down to a single gate nearly every bike was a 105, other than a few fast kids on 80s. (There weren't any 85s then)

That's literally every local race, beginners practice first and they don't make lines. They go everywhere lol
Yeah Loretta's is kinda a joke these days though, the way they run it , that video of the woman's rider being told they had to pay a fee of 500 $ for camping even though they weren't camping was bullshit ,n actually I think it was an mx sports guy . Dude was a dick and they had a motel but said if they didn't pay a 500$ camping fee the daughter was disqualified, and dad wasn't even at the track yet , dude was still on his way there from work . It's dickheads in the sport that ruin top events over a fee they shouldn't have to pay
