Couldnt agree more, I never liked the voice of Frank Welker's first portrayal, for me it destroyed the character, I understand they tried to use the fact Galvatron was damaged as the reason, but the reality is they probably couldnt get Leonard Nimoy to continue the voice, such a shame he is gone now. While I do like Franks second portrayal, it is clearly very digitised. But real good all the same.
+pow1983 Actually the reason Galvatron does not sound at all like Nimoy/the movie in the series is because the first episodes of the third season of Transformers were recorded BEFORE the movie came out and Nimoy recorded his lines as Galvatron. No doubt that Frank could have pulled off a perfect imitation of Nimoy if asked (he dubbed Nimoy as Spock after all)

It was intentional. He stated for the movie that they wanted a darker voice, so he just added more bass to it. Impressive he can still do that voice at 70 years old.

Nimoy was the best, he was also the original. I always found the Welker voice to be a bit too whiny.
I feel like Welker did a better Galvatron for AOE than he did for G1. It was always odd having his Galvatron voice be more shrill than his Megatron voice.
Probably helps if you think about the fact that Galvatron was supposed to be insane after the movie.

Yes, actually. AOE Galvatron's voice is based on Welker's Transformers Prime Megatron voice, which is itself sort of a mix between the G1 voice and Hugo Weaving's take in the first three films. And that's a foreshadowing of who AOE Galvatron really is.

The jump from G1 to Age of extinction is insane. Frank can really change up his game.

I felt like Leonard Nimoy had the best voice to really get that "evil" feel in galvatron. Sure, Frank Welker doesn't do a bad job, but I prefer Nimoy.
Sometimes I wonder what it would’ve been like if we had a series or movie when Leonard Nimoy was still alive where he does the voice of Megatron. I can imagine a spine chilling performance.

I gotta go Leonard Nimoy. Something about his voice in the G1 movie just FIT. Frank Welker's voice didn't fit after the fact in the show. HOWEVER, he ACED it in AOE. That voice was more of a mix between TF Prime Megatron and movie Megatron.
have to disagree for this reason: Leonard Nimoy basically played Megatron in Galvatron's body (watch the movie again, he doesn't change personality) Frank Welker however played 'crazy Galvatron' and that voice works better for that reason. (imagine Nimoy screaming as Galvatron would during the first half of season 3, then his voice doesn't really fit) they toned the crazy later in the season.
henkman00 Well... tbh I never actually watched G1. Aside from the movie of course. (Sorry guys xD) I've only ever seen clips and what-not so I guess out of context it just didn't seem right to me. Oh well. :P
that's okay, there are some awesome episodes, though, speaking of 'crazy Galvatron' and my point, give the episode 'Web World' a shot. in it, the Decepticons are tired of Galvatron's madness and take him to a -get this- asylum planet. they attempt to cure him of his madness, but it doesn't work out well. in the end...Galvatron destroys the whole planet! it's great! :D (after this episode Galvatron does act a bit more sane)
the movie btw takes place between episode 65 and 66 (or season 2 and 3) so you did miss a bunch that actually makes the movie better. and season 3 is (for the most part) one big sequel to the movie. with things like Unicron's attempt to turn Cybertron into his new body, Starscream returning as a ghost, Optimus Prime returning as a zombie (pretty dark for the show) Rodimus Primes dealings with being the new Prime. the Decepticons trying to survive after losing control of Cybertron. things like this.
there are also sequel shows, like Beast Wars. (but you really need to see season 1 of the original show first for it to have the right impact)
but, if you're only interested in the movie, that's fine too. pretty cool flick ;)
I've actually watched all of Beast Wars. I freakin' love that show! And I already knew of Starscream being a ghost. (somehow) And that he possesses a few bots in G1. And that he of course possessed Waspinator in Beast Wars.

Ok how could Frank Welker do the voice of Galvatron in 1984 and Leonard Nimoy does Galvatrons voice in 1986? The timing is wrong. Galvatron was first introduced in the Transformers movie and Leonard Nimoy was the voice. Frank Welker must have been used afterwards.

Leonard and Frank will always be my favorite voices of Galvatron. Leonard's Galvatron has that voice that fits Galvatron so well in the 1986 movie. Frank on the other hand, has that CHAOTIC EVIL that fits Galvatron in the cartoon (seasons 3 & 4 of The Transformers). The fact that his roll as Galvatron in the 1984 cartoon mostly consisted of him SCREAMING into the void while shooting at the Autobots and his own troops, and NOT having any vocal problems proves that Frank is More Than Meets The Eye when it comes to voice acting. Without him, our childhood wouldn't be the same again.

Also, David's roll as Galvatron just feels like his Beast Wars Megatron to me. I mean, not that it's a bad or anything. He's just more iconic as Megatron (Mostly from Beast Wars: Transformers) and Optimus Prime (from Transformers Animated).

Nimoy hands down. Perfect balance of a deep, authoritative, and menacing tone that a decepticon leader should have. Welker is not bad, just too high-strung. You can tell Nimoy (and Welker to his credit) had his game face on and got into the character. All other VO's were weak as shit

Eberyone is hating on Welkers Galvatron, the reason his voice is so high pitched, is because after the movie, he was thrown into that goop pit, which fried his circuits, and he went crazy

Frank Welker was superb, but Leonard Nimoy really was the best. Coming back to this video years later though, and I have to say I love the sound of Daniel Riordan's voice as Galvatron. Rewatching 2001 Robots In Disguise really made me appreciate just how power crazed and intimidating he was, both as Megatron and Galvatron. If ever the opportunity came where he'd voice Galvatron, it'd be the best - especially if it's based on the power hungry, insane and unbelievably powerful comic version of Galvatron. That's the voice I think of when I read Transformers comics with Galvatron

To me both Leonard Nimoy and Frank's Welker's Galvetron was great. As far as I'm concerned both are synonymous with character, and as diehard fan/kid growing up they really captured that evil Megatron-esque sinister vibe, in their own ways.

For the longest time I never knew that Megatron and Galvatron were seperate characters. Thought it was some crazy split personality type business.
My favourite Galvatron voice is Leonard "Mister Spock" Nimoy, but I also like the 2014 Frank Welker version too. I dunno why his earlier version wasn't like that but it seemed a bit camp, which didn't work for me in this instance.
for anyone who likes to know this stuff: the role for Galvatron went to Frank Welker first and he was already voicing season 3 while the movie was in production, Leonard Nimoy got the movie role but was allowed to do the voice as he saw it. now you know, and knowing cuts the pie in two.
That was smart of Frank to do. Orson Wells stole the movie anyway.

It's really strange how when welker did the voice of galvatron he did a crazy voice but when voiced him again in age of extinction he did a much more menacing voice.
Welker obviously always kills it when he voices either Megatron or Galvatron but Riordan has a special place in my heart as OG RID is my second favorite series after Prime

I like Nimoy for the movie, but overall I enjoy Walker more. He just nailed the crazy sound that the character is known for.

Movie G1 Galvatron sounded intimidating. TV G1 Galvatron sounds like he's about to order his meddling Decepticons (and Weirdwolf/Wolfwire/Wolfy-Doo) to split up and look for clues while he sets up a trap for those pesky Autobots.
Personally, this is a very tough call to make.
G1: Leonard Nimoy had MUCH better writing and lines to go with. I mean, to the point where Frank Welker during the third season felt like a ripoff. BUT, Frank Welker brought the lunacy & violence to Galvatron, whereas Leonard Nimoy's was more or less a more badass Mr. Burns.
